Slap Ya Mama Cajun Seasoning

Slap Ya Mama Cajun SeasoningPros: Delicious on just about everything. Seller shipped quickly.

Con: Outrageous shipping costs. In order to justify it I ordered several shakers.

I enjoy spicy seasoning, but there was way-too much salt in it! You'll be drinking water all night!

I've been using this for over 5 yrs and wont try anything else. Ever since I tried other stuff, I keep coming back to this one. I also get the HOT and use it in conjunction with this one. Or the hot one in Chili is great. Im a guy so not sure of women will like it this way but i use it on my steamed veggies, meats and even sometimes eggs when I want a kick. For Split Chicken Breast with skin, I powder the top with this and a little of the Hot Version and make big slices in the meat so it can seep in. Then back for 45-50 min at 375. Good stuff!!

I wish I had heeded the other reviews that said this product was too salty. I LOVE salty food -I'm that person who no one ever wants to share fries with because I drown them in salt -so I didn't think it would be a problem for me. But even as a lover of food that is too salty, this product is WAY too salty... like, to an extreme level. It almost tastes more salty than actual plain salt, if that's possible.

It's really too bad, because the flavors are good otherwise. But it's impossible to add enough seasoning to experience the other flavors without making a weird too-much-salt face and chugging a glass of water afterwards.

This might be okay for use in cooking food that is bland to start with, like as a marinade for plain grilled chicken or maybe even as a steak rub (assuming nothing else you're using has any salt in it at all). But for anything that's slightly salty already, this is just too much. I tried it sprinkled on french fries and fried chicken, and I ended up having to wipe off the fries and throw the chicken away.

I bought this on recommendation from a southern friend and was very pleased with it. I find some seasonings to be too salty before they're too hot (spicy), but I did not find that to be the case with Slap Ya Mama. I'll be buying this again.

Kashi Brown Maple Instant Oatmeal

Kashi Brown Maple Instant OatmealThe cereal itself is very good. Excellent, natural ingredients, and not too sweet like many of the retail oatmeal packets you get elsewhere.

I just noticed Amazon's small-type disclaimer that you can return the cereal if you're not satisfied with the freshness date. I received it on Feb 3 and it's dated good till March 16. I guess I can use up 2 boxes (16 packets) in 6 weeks, but I shouldn't have to, and returning the cereal is really more trouble than it's worth given the box size, packaging requirements, and need to take it to the post office. Also, if Amazon paid for the postage both ways, they'd lose money on this sale, so why bother?

By the way, I've checked out other Kashi products we've purchased at brick and mortar stores and the expiration dates go out 6 months or more in all cases.

How about Amazon just not ship cereal that's less than, say, three months out from its expiration date?

This Kashi oatmeal smells wonderful as it cooks. I make it with water and microwave it for my daughter. She is a little girl with a severe milk and egg allergy and finding a healthy breakfast that doesn't involve milk or eggs was tough...until we discovered this oatmeal. It has a nice, hearty consistency and a great flavor. For those with a bit of a sweet tooth, a spoon of brown sugar or a drizzle of agave nectar will sweeten it up just wonderfully. A great way to start the day!

I think this cereal tastes okay as cereal, but I like to eat cereals as snacks--right out of the box. This one doesn't work well that way because of the size of the flakes, the fact that they separate from the powdery flavoring, and they stick to your fingers. Of course, you'll probably use hot water with yours. Kashi adds a bunch of vitamins which is nice, but the big hype on oats is overblown. My ex-girlfriend had high cholesterol and calculated how many oat muffins she'd need to get the number down to acceptable--tons of them each day. She's a computer professional & VERY bright--and persistent. The muffins were good too--esp. the smell as they baked. You can't eat enough of this cereal to do the trick. No way. Still, it's a convenient packet & tastes okay.

Natures Path SmartBran, 10.6 oz

Natures Path SmartBran, 10.6 ozThis product was obviously inspired by the large multinational companies that put out two cereals that boast something like 13g fiber per serving.

The problem I have with those products is when you read the ingredients list, you need a degree in biochemistry to understand them. Furtermore, they contain either artifical sweeteners or the dreaded hi-fructose corn syrup, which has no place in a natural foods diet.

Here you get the same high fiber as those aforemetioned products, but the list is "clean".

Whether you desire a high fiber cereal for the health benefits or to accelerate weight loss (see Dr. Connely's book, he's the inventor of Metrix), this is a no-brainer.

Congrats to Nature's Path for formulating a cereal with the same fiber content as the popular brands, but with ingrediens that are recognizable.

Nature Valley Chewy Trail Mix Granola Bars, 6 Count Box

Nature Valley Chewy Trail Mix Bars, Fruit and Nut, 6-Count BoxesShame on Nature Valley for trying to pull the wool over our eyes! If you were a fan of these bars when they first came out, then be warned. The recipe has changed and the bars are much different and NOT for the better. Not only are they much smaller, they also contain far fewer nuts/fruit and the bar itself now has an airier consistency like the Rice Krispie's treat.

How do I know all this? I bought these bars on a regular basis from Costco and still had some leftover bars from the first batch and I was able to compare them side by side. These were always my favorite hiking snack and now they aren't much better than every other bar out there. I think Nature Valley will quickly regret its decision once they realize that their are a lot of unhappy customers. I'd gladly pay a little extra if it meant keeping the bars the way they were.

If you don't believe me then by all means buy them and judge for yourself.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I love these trail mix bars. They are chewy, sweet and flavorful. They taste a bit like a very chewy, very sweet Rice Krispie / oat bar. The amount of almonds (nice that they are whole) was a bit sparse and the cranberries are sort of ground up not so much like actual trail mix. The amount of goodies in the bar does not really match the picture on the box, which shows many more almonds, cranberries and raisins than I actually found to be in the product (based on my eating 3 bars out of the package so far). The bars are convenient to take "on the go".

However, in my opinion, this product is masquerading as a "healthy" trail mix bar and should be considered more like a cookie or candy bar. It has 14 grams of sugars per bar, which is 40% by weight, as another reviewer pointed out, and it is SWEET. It also only has 1 gram of fiber per bar, so it is not so healthy in that respect. That said, I still rate the NV Chewy Trail Mix Bars as 5 stars for the good taste, but I personally would choose a healthier product (with less sugar and higher fiber) for everyday eating or if I were actually bringing this on a hiking trip.

The product I received has a slightly different list of ingredients than listed on the Amazon site at this time and has likely been reformulated to avoid the use of high fructose corn syrup, which has been under scrutiny lately. This product contains high maltose corn syrup instead.

List of ingredients from the box I received:

Whole Grain Oats, High Maltose Corn Syrup, Crisp Rice (Rice Flour, Sugar, Malt Extract, Salt), Sugar, Raisins, Almonds, Honey, Roasted Peanuts, Fructose, Sunflower Seed, Canola Oil. Contains 2% or less of: Cranberries, Rice, Maltodextrin, Soy Lecithin, Salt, Natural Flavor, Baking Soda. Mixed Tocopherols added to retain freshness.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Nature Valley has a pretty wide variety of granola bars to offer, but I've never had a chewy bar of their's until I had this Trail Mix kind. Mixed (although mostly positive) results ensued...

Fruit, good. Nuts, good. Chewy, not that great. The consistency is quite sticky, and frankly a bit tough on your teeth. You shouldn't have to channel the force of a shark's bite to enjoy a granola bar.

Consistency aside, the flavor is great. It has raisin and cranberry fruitiness to pair with almond and peanut nuttiness. And of course there are oats and rice. The fruit flavors aren't overly sweet and it's not like you're eating a handful of nuts either. It's trail mix in bar form really, and Nature Valley has that right. And with 25 grams of carbohydrates and 14 grams of sugar per bar, these would be good for outdoor activities demanding energy.

I had my hopes for this bar. The box reads "Fruit & Nut Almond, Raisin, Peanut, and Cranberry", but after taking my first bite, I was surprised by the actual ingredients. The first two ingredients in the nutritional information are Oats and High Maltose Corn Syrup. This is not a fruit and nut bar. It is a grain bar with some fruit and nuts sprinkled in. There are far better products, including ones with almonds and fruits as the main ingredients, and with honey sticking the ingredients together instead of a boat load of corn syrup. I am completely dissatisfied and amazon doesn't offer returns on this product so save yourself some money and buy a better bar.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program These bars are convenient for hiking.

They are very crunchy and crispy. Be careful of biting into pecans, especially if you have any bonding or cosmetic work done on your teeth.

Unfortunately, my two front teeth are capped, when biting into a pecan proved to hard, I bit off the hard piece with my side teeth. The package does say "chewy", but I didn't find them of chewy consistency.

They are very, very sweet, due to the high corn fructose and honey,a little too sweet to be a favorite for me. Though I'm sure many people will favor them for the sweetness.

Compared to Quaker's Simple Harvest which is just delicately sweetened and less hard,I'd choose the latter for myself. This only my feeling though.

Farina Creamy Hot Wheat Cereal, 28.0 Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6)

Farina Creamy Hot Wheat Cereal, 28.0 Ounce BoxesI grew up on this stuff. My dominican grandmother (born and raised) use to make this all of the time with milk and vanilla extract. My cousins and I would wait for it to cool in our favorite bowls and then eat the corners until we made it to the center which stayed warm the longest of course. And we loved the sweet skin the cereal would make on top once cooled.

Farina has always been our favorite hot cereal. We have not been able to locate a store in Phoenix that sells Farina so being able to purchase it online makes our day.

This is a terrific product and I wonder why it has virtually disappeared off supermarket shelves. Generations of babies used to eat it as their first cereal, but now cereals have gotten very fancy: flavored, instant-cooking, and loaded with additives other than just vitamins. I have severe food allergies, and although I can eat wheat, I cannot eat most additives. I cannot eat soy products, for example, and therefore cannot eat any commercial baked goods, all of which contain soy lethecin (an emulsifier) or, worse, bean derivatives (guar gum, carob gum), or corn derivatives(xanthine gum). I can eat Farina without any unhappy reactions whatsoever.

If people wonder why there are so many food allergies around now, let them just read the printed contents labels carefully. Commercial products these days contain everything but the kitchen sink. Even ice cream contains bean gums!

Original Caveman Cookies

Original Caveman CookiesCaveman Bakery has made the best tasting, yummiest, freshest gluten free, high protein cookies! Plus they are lower in calories than most cookies. They do indeed taste old fashioned. For those of us sensitive to gluten, they are a

great alternative to being able to enjoy a cookie while staying "safe" from gluten or corn products. I took a couple with me when we went to see Avatar on Christmas I was very happy to have them while the guys were enjoying eating their

popcorn. This item will be a staple in our home for holidays, special occasions, or going to the movies.

I do have one big problem with these cookies. They are so delish that I have difficulty in only eating two per day.

A friend recently told me that she could never follow the strict anti-inflammatory diet that I do. I told her that I know how bad I felt and it's not worth it to me not to follow it. That's one big reason why I am so excited about these Caveman Cookies.

Very delicious and the ingredients are probably very close to what our ancestors had access to but I still worry about the amount of sugar in such a small serving size. Definitely healthier than your typical Chips-ahoy but I feel the sugar content is too high for a low carb dieter.

These cookies are TINY! About the size of an oreo, but thinner and lighter. They are pretty good, and definitely a better snacking choice than an oreo, but $6.95 for 8 small cookies? COME ON!!!!!

This is the perfect treat for any Paleo-dieters out there!! Although the cookies were a little thinner than I expected them to be, they are pretty dense and filling. I recently tried all three flavors that Caveman Bakery offers and all of them are excellent. I think I might just order a whole bunch and hand them out during the Holidays. Gluten free is the way to go!

The cookies are moist and chewy. They might be a bit on the sweet side, I'm guessing that's the honey in them, but they're still great. I'm very happy with my purchase, I'll be ordering more in the future!

Nutri-Grain Cereal Bars, Blueberry, 8-Count Bars (Pack of 6)

Nutri-Grain Cereal Bars, Blueberry, 8-Count BarsI used to eat these in high school for breakfast and I loved them. I bought 6 boxes of these to have to eat as a snack and for breakfast on the drive to work. So these are great for that purpose.

However, these aren't a quality food product. They are dry, there is very little fruit filling in them, and the bars are very small. Sometimes you take a bite and can't even taste the fruit filling because there is hardly any in there.

But, I will probably buy these again just for breakfast and emergencies. Honestly, though, they're not that great.

We always keep a supply of cereal bars around for our little boy (4 years old). His eating can be somewhat erratic and there are times when I don't think he's getting enough to eat and he refuses to eat anything else. Well, I can almost always get him to eat a good cereal bar. I've bee using the Fresh and Easy bars and they're quite good and the boy likes them. Well, this time, they had a small display of Kellogg's Nutri-Grain bars and they were on a deep discount sale. I bought a couple including this blueberry variety. The bars are quite good. Nice and fresh and flavorful. They certainly didn't last long with the boy. They'll do. Nice mix of ingredients too.
