PowerBar Protein Triple Threat 10g, Smores, 1.94-Ounce Bars (Pack of 15)

PowerBar Protein Triple Threat 10g, Smores, 1.94-Ounce BarsI love most PowerBars. I always take a couple in my pack when biking or hiking, and I also keep a couple in my briefcase for when I miss meals at work. Most PowerBar flavors are excellent.

Years ago, PowerBar used to make a "Triple Threat" chocolate caramel fusion bar that was very tasty. This new formulation, though, tastes pretty bad. It has a very artificial, vitaminish flavor. Having said that, tastes are subjective, so you may like the flavor. Given my experience, though, I'd suggest that you buy one of these in a store and try it before purchasing a whole box of them from Amazon.

If you're looking for chocolate flavored PowerBars, I'd recommend either their traditional chocolate bar (tasty, but also very sticky) or the PowerBar Harvest Whole Grain Energy Bar (very tasty, and neater).

These things taste great! It's a great snack for my ride home. It's not the healthiest bar out there, but it is by far the best tasting.

I buy these for my son who is a personal trainer. He's tried other energy bars but much prefers these!

Very tasty product. Easy to handle while running and helps my energy running. Highly recommend to others plus easy to digest.

This is a common energy bar available in most stores with a health aisle or specialty health stores. I love the convenience of shopping online and the price was comparable without driving to my supplier. I would recommend this energy bar because it is not too sweet, chewy and flavorful. Eat with a glass of water or juice.

Sharkies Kids Sports Chews, Tropical Splash, 1.58-Ounce Bags (Pack of 12)

Sharkies Kids Sports Chews, Tropical Splash, 1.58-Ounce BagsCustomer review from the Amazon Vine Program Though the package calls these "sports chews", they're essentially really a candy--certainly not something you'd want to buy as a healthy snack for your child. That said, I think that, as an occasional treat, these are pretty great. It's hard to find candy that isn't chock full of artificial colors, flavors, and high fructose corn syrup. I know this because I'm a compulsive reader of labels, and also someone who's trying to eliminate all artificial ingredients and HFCS from her family's diet. Given that, I'm really happy to be able to add this organic product to the list of infrequent treats I'm willing to give to my children.

The texture of these is much like a gummy. Each shark-shaped chew is dusted with sugar, and comes in a variety of natural flavors. My seven-year-old told me they reminded her of fruit gems, and I think she hit the nail right on the head. They have that same kind of texture, chewy but not as rubbery as gummies can be. The flavors are very nice, and I was frankly a bit surprised that my daughter liked them as much as she did, given that she's been so programmed to gravitate toward the artificial products marketed to kids these days. It can be a challenge to find things with natural flavors that she enjoys, so the fact that she likes these really says a lot to me. I also like them. They're sweet, but not cloyingly so, and fun to chew. The flavors taste like actual fruit instead of like some scientific approximation of what fruit is supposed to taste like.

Though these aren't something I'd give my kids with wild abandon, I am pleased with them and would definitely give them every now and then to the kids as a treat. It's nice to have another item to add to my list of acceptable foods.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This product makes a big show of the fact that it contains no fructose and is "packed with vitamins". It is being marketed as a healthy treat but it is NOT. This is NOT a "sports chew" or healthy snack. It is glorified sugar sprinkled with sugar. The primary ingredient is evaporated cane juice...a type of sugar. This product contains 35 g of carbs and 0 fiber. That means all the carbs are coming from simple sugars. It is essentially a 140 calorie bag of vitamin C. Give your kid an orange or a a glass of orange juice instead. It has no other nutritional value except the added vitamin C which you can get from other sources. As a comparison, Welchs Fruit Snacks Twenty Four 2.25 Ounce Value Box Assortment has 130 calories per service, contains 100% daily value Vitamin C, 25% Vitamin A, 31 g of carbs and 1 g of protein. it doesn't matter if the sugar is "organic." Sugar is sugar and will have the same negative impact.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program First, I would have never bought these simply due to their cost alone. Nutritionally they just don't have anything better than typical gummy treats unless you are hardcore into organic ingredients. They taste ok, but so do just about any brand. Big whoop deal about the vitamin c-others have that additive too. Even in this bulk package of 12 you are going to pay over $1.10 per bag! Any piece of fruit is way better and will cost less. My kids thought they were like a combo of Swedish Fish and Sour Patch Kids (without the sour flavor). They both said they could have gone without the sugar coating and one of them only had a couple pieces then said he didn't want anymore. Neither of them have gone back to the cupboard for more since trying them for the first time at least 2 weeks ago!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program My kids found the "Sharkies Kids Sports Chews" to be very tasty. They compare very favorably in taste and texture to other bite-sized fruit snacks.

That being said, I'm not sure what the point to their marketing is other than to confuse parents. Sure they have an organic component and they have added Vitamin C, no matter how small those components may be, but these snacks are LOADED with sugar. In fact they may have MORE sugar on/in them than your generic grocery store fruit snacks. I also haven't figured out the "Sports" part. As far as price, the list price of $18.00 is highway robbery and about 600X's the price of other name-brand fruit snacks let alone the generic brands that are available.

To me, this product is solely produced to take advantage of the growing snooty "buy healthy & organic" crowd out there who are willing and able to pay a higher price to get a product that they feel is better for them and their kids. Unfortunately this product seems to miss the target on all counts save taste and an overpriced taste at that.

As a runner I use these for a quick sugar blast on longer runs. They taste great, are compact enough to carry along, and wash down easily with some energy drink or water. Highly recommended.

Walden Farms Calorie Free Fruit Spread Grape -- 12 oz

Walden Farms Calorie Free Fruit Spread Grape -- 12 ozPros: No carbs, sugar, calories, fat etc.

Cons: Has the consistency of cranberry sauce.

Tastes bitter.

Similar to grape juice, but more bitter.

Tried adding sweetener (equal) to it, and no luck. =( Oh well.

I bought this product for a diabetic friend. She loves grape jelly but could not find any that was sugar free. She was thrilled that we found it. Wonderful. Simply wonderful...

This tasted nothing like Grape Jelly, it had that fake powdered drink mix grape taste and had the consistency of gelatin. Very disappointing, the whole jar went right into the garbage after the first taste which also left a nasty aftertaste in my mouth.

I really liked their Ranch Dressing, but this was a total fail. I give them lots of credit for trying to make a calorie free spread, but it just didn't work.

Ok, I was pleasantly surprised by the grape. It was the first Walden Farms product that I tasted and am happy to say, I will enjoy this product. Now let me state right now, I dont normally like diet flavors and this one is not perfect but you put this on a pb&j sandwich and you will be happy. Is it exactly like regular grape jelly, no! The consistency is more gelled then regular jelly and the grape flavor is a diety grape flavor. It doesn't spread very well, but I never had much luck with regular grape jelly spreading all that great either. For a person that wants to remove the carbs and the calories, I think this is a fine product indeed. I am taking one star off for how hard it is to spread but overall I think its worth it for those that need to curb the sweet tooth without putting all those sugars into your system. I have also bought a few other walden farms no calorie stuff since trying this grape jelly and have been happy with them as well. For a diabetic, I think these Walden Farms products are well worth it.

MTR Rava Idli Instant Dry Mix, 17.6-Ounce Pouches (Pack of 24)

MTR Rava Idli Instant Dry Mix, 17.6-Ounce PouchesI don't shirk from making indian food from scratch, but considering how good this rava mix turns out every time, I don't see the point of going through the hassle.

Tip: Add some shredded carrots, green peas and chopped coriander leaves to the mix and pour in some buttermilk along with the yogurt (to get the doughy consistency). Fluffy and delicious

I have been using this product for a long time. The quality and taste is superb. I have tried several other Ravi Idli mixes from various vendors from India, nobody is even a distant second.

I recommend this product for healthy and delicious eating. enjoy!

Kashi Heart to Heart Whole Grain Crackers, 8-Ounce (Pack of 5)

Kashi Heart to Heart Whole Grain Crackers, Roasted Garlic, 8-OunceHaving grown up with Triscuit as an occasional treat, I was delighted, not to mention a bit nervous, when Kashi put out their own version of the "woven" whole grain cracker. Previous attempts have, in my opinion, missed the boat, and Kashi, for whatever reason, has been putting the occasional odd ingredient in some of their products making them inedible to certain parts of the population. Kashi Heart To Heart Whole Grain Crackers Original are one of their sure hits. There is no dairy included in these crackers where there is in some of Kashi's other crackers.

The texture is perfect lending the cracker an excellent bite as well as denseness that will hold up to whatever you want to put on them--I haven't tried it yet but I suspect that they will even hold a bit of sauce. Little pizzas!

The taste is close to Triscuit but not the same. If I were to have a side-by-side taste-testing of the two crackers, the Triscuit would fail for two reasons: The Kashi cracker is a bit thicker and provides a more satisfying crunch. Additionally, the Kashi cracker is far less salty than the Triscuit. I have not compared the sodium counts here, just the flavor.

All in all, I highly recommend Kashi Heart-to-Heart Whole Grain Crackers for flavor, crunch and this: when that emotional need to ar#@!gh comes, these crackers make a lovely foil to keep you from doing just that. They are also a great munch.

We love these crackers. They taste great, but they aren't too salty or oily, like a healthier version of Triscuits. They go really well with sliced cheddar cheese and our kids love them.

Purchased these for a nice snack while sitting at work. Most office snack-bars and vending machines have candy and chips which taste great, but aren't exactly great for you. These little crackers are just as tasty and are healthier than what the vending machine has to offer. Also, great at parties with meats and cheeses. And for those that are worried the garlic flavor is not overpowering, but you definitely know it is there. Overall a great buy and in the 5-pack option, not a bad deal either.

We have bought a lot of Kashi Heart to Heart crackers since DH had a heart attack last year, but we've never tried the originals. I didn't realize it, but these are the woven wheat type of cracker like Triscuits, not crackers like the other ones we've been buying. They are not as salty as Triscuits (or they couldn't claim to be heart-healthy), but if you make heart-healthy spreads to put on them using flavorful salt substitutes, you won't miss the salt. They can be used for everything you'd use Triscuits for. I'm really glad these are available.

I've got to admit that I'm not too crazy about the taste of the crackers alone but I recognize their superior quality and health-given benefits. So dip them in my healthy soups and sip my allotted red wine. They're greeeeeeat! :)

Earth's Best Organic Sunny Days Snack Bars, 5.3 Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6)

Earth's Best Organic Sunny Days Snack Bars, Strawberry, 5.3-Ounce BoxesAfter reading a number of confusing reviews that highlight LARGE discrepancies in sugars, organics and nutrition contents, I decided to investigate for myself.

I compared Earth's Best Apple snack bars (my little guy's favorite) with Health Valley Apple Cobble cereal bars and Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Apple Cinnamon.

Packaging:

Earth's Best snack bars are KID-sized. Only 19g.

The other two are 37g each.

As most parents know, having things in smaller packages is handy because kids often don't eat all of what you give them. So unless you always remember to carry extra baggies or storage containers around, Earth's Best has the no-waste edge.

***For the rest of this review, the numbers I give for Earth's best are based on a doubling of serving size from 19g to 38g so as to be on relative equal footing with the other two bars***

Sugars:

Nutri-Grain (NG): 12g

Health Valley (HV): 16g

Earth's Best (E'sB): 18g

So, yes, Earth's best does have the highest sugar content of the three, but that's assuming your child will eat the whole 37/38g worth of bar.

Mine won't.

And, if you consider the source of the sugars (which, believe it or not, matters to some people), Health Valley and Earth's Best derive theirs primarily from evaporated can juice, honey, and the apple itself.

Nutri-Grain lists high-fructose corn syrup and plain ol' sugar almost a dozen ingredients before you actually see 'apple puree' listed.

One final sugar note, when ANY kind of fruit is reduced to a concentrate, its level of sugar (fructose) becomes concentrated as well. That's why it may take a whole apple to equal the same amount of sugar found in a couple of tablespoons of the concentrated apple found in a processed snack.

Ingredients:

Just a reminder, what's listed first on the ingredients label is what the product contains the most of, and so on down to the bottom.

If you think your child is eating an apple snack bar, then apple should be the first thing list, not near the last.

Organics:

Read the labels thoroughly.

Healthy Vally claims 70% organic.

Earth's Best claims made with Organic Whole Wheat.

Neither of these items claims to be 'ORGANIC' in its entirety. So don't be miffed if you see the word and think it means the whole product only to find out it doesn't.

Other Nutrition consideration:

Fiber: This is the one truly weak point of Earth's Best. It list NONE. The other two each list 3g. Now, I'm not 100% certain that 0g for the E'sB 19g serving also means 0g for a double serving, but it's safe to assume that it would still be less than 1g.

Vitamins: E'sB wins this one. Narrowly beating out Nutri-grain with added Zinc, Iron, Thiamin and Folic Acid, though a tad less on Riboflavin and Niacin.

Health Valley has modest amounts of vitamins, but nothing to compare with the other two.

This said, if you're the kind of parent who is truly concerned about a well-balanced diet, you know that the value of vitamins from these sources isn't as good as getting them from fresh fruits and vegetables, so don't bank on these bars as a multivitamin alternative.

Sodium:

NG: 110mg

HV: 85mg

E'sB: 90mg (45mg/19g)

Protein:

At the 37/38g serving size, all offer 2g.

Total carbs:

NG: 24g (8%)

HV: 27g (9%)

E'sB: 28g (9%)...but 14g/19g serving size

Calories:

NG: 120

HV: 130

E'sB: 140...70/19g serving size

And an added note on calories: kids are active little things and hardly want to sit to eat or do anything to take away from their play/work.

While I do prefer to give my little guy as much 'fresh' stuff as possible (and I give him a fair amount), he fills up on it, but burns through the energy (i.e. calories) quickly and is loathe to pause long to eat again.

This said, when you can find a SMALL, tasty supplemental snack that's relatively healthy and also packs on the calories for your little one, then you often stick with it.

The Verdict:

If cost is the most important factor when choosing a cereal bar, then, yes, Nutri-Grain is likely your best bet.

If convenience of size and nutritional content drive you (despite cost), then Earth's Best is definitely the way to go.

Health Valley has it's taste merits, but lacks in other ways.

I 100% believe of the value of paying a little more for Earth's Best smaller bars because it provides a compact, calorie and nutrient rich snack that is fairly healthy.

I started buying these when my twins were twothey LOVE them! It's a great, healthy snack for on-the-go. The only complaint I have is that they are extremely crumbly, so beware! With that said, I would definitely recommend these... they are soft and chewy and very tasty!

GeniSoy Soy Crisps Rich Cheddar Cheese -- 3.5 ozI used to LOVE these cheesy soy crisps! They were a must-have before, but they've changed the product and now they're not as good. The old ones had a lighter texture with a great cheese flavor. The new ones are much harder. Not saying the new ones are completely horrible, but I'm disappointed and probably won't buy them again.

I have enjoyed this product for many years. Now they have changed it and it sucks. I bought 12 bags not knowing they changed it and After tasting it I threw them out. Very disappointed.
