Nature's Path Organic Mesa Sunrise Cereal, 26.4-Ounce Bags (Pack of 6)

Nature's Path Organic Mesa Sunrise Cereal, 26.4-Ounce BagsThis is a staple food at our house. It's the only cereal that my children (all eight of them) NEVER get tired of! It has a wonderful toasty corn taste, yet it's packed with good-for-you stuff. Amazon's price (especially when their special is going) is outstanding.

I really LIKE this cereal, as opposed to..... well, this is something I can eat safely (without gluten). I put all those extra bags in the freezer but will definitely eat them up. Another popular GF cereal is so HARD and extra-crunchy that is beats up my tongue. This is quite tasty and just the right normal "flake" texture.

Prior to 2012, this was my favorite cereal. Tasty, healthy and gluten-free. Sometime in 2012, they reformulated the flakes such that they are now totally tasteless and lack any texture. They are thin and become almost instant mush in liquid. There is no longer any solid 'crunch' or interest. You might as well be eating cheap corn flakes. Save your money until they return to the old recipe.

I love the flavor of this cereal and it is a good source of fiber also.

Since I have had to change my diet to gluten free foods it has been a challenge to absorb the extra expense. I was buying this cereal at the local natural market and was paying $8.15 per bag plus tax. I am now purchasing this cereal in bulk on a delivery schedule and am saving a lot of money. I usually eat this cereal once or twice daily and always enjoy the taste.

This is a great cereal that can also be used as GF bread crumbs. I use it on fish and chicken.

PowerBar Power Gel C2 MAX - Box of 24 (Vanilla)

PowerBar Power Gel C2 MAX - Box of 24I recently ran a marathon in November and trained all summer using Clif Shot Energy Gels during my LR's. However, during one of the races I ran this summer they gave out PowerBar Gels and I loved them. I recently bought an entire box of PowerBar Gels to train for a marathon in January and I can't see myself ever switching. Here are the pros/cons:

PowerBar PROS

* thinner consistency which makes it easier to swallow

* great taste I have the Strawberry/Banana and found them to be the best tasting gel I ever had yet. 9.5 out of 10

* easy to open the packaging is very easy to open, even with sweaty hands during a run

PowerBar CONS

* haven't been able to come up with one yet

Clif Bar PROS

* Litter Leash on side of package to keep from ripping the top off. Keeps the entire package in one piece to prevent littering.

* Overall I can't complaining about the taste. 8 out of 10

Clif Bar CONS

* Hard to open these Gels are almost impossible to open once your hands get wet.

* Thick consistency these Gels get thicker in cold weather and become very hard to swallow. Plus the gel itself is a bit more powdery (Chocolate) then PowerBar.

I used these gels while training for my first marathon and finally during the marathon 4 days ago. They were an invaluable tool in helping me finish. If you take one every 45 minutes, your energy level stays constant throughout the run. The Strawberry Banana flavor is also very tasty.

I must preface this review with: I am a Gu fan. I've tried so many different brands, flavors, and types of gels/blocks/cubes, whatever, and I love Gu to get the job done. For PowerBar, I've tried the Vanilla, which is really delicious. It tastes like cake frosting! However, the vanilla does not have caffeine, so this does not fill my needs. I have tried the Double Latte, which I abhor--I thought it was AWFUL. It just stuck to my teeth and wouldn't go down, and yuck yuck yuck. I love coffee, too. But as a liquid, in a mug! :) I have heard from many runners that they enjoy the Green Apple, so I might try these in the future. The PowerBar brand is a thinner consistency than Gu or Clif, so sometimes I think it goes down a lot easier, especially if you're not near a water fountain or aid station. If the vanilla had caffeine, I would probably stick with that one. I couldn't run the distances I do without gels. I take one on a daily run of 7-8 miles, I'll take 2 gels on a weekend run of 14-16 miles, and I'll take 3 on a run longer than 20 miles (in addition to Clif Bars). I hope this helps someone make a gel decision!

Oh, in addition, I want to point out that PowerBar gels are made in a facility that manufactures dairy products, whereas Gu does not. I hope this helps the allergy sufferers out there!

I'm an avid cyclist and XC mountain bike racer. Like most gels this has all the clean burning fuel one needs for a quick boost pre-ride or, most importantly, during an endurance experience. The taste is great, but what I like most of all is the texture...not at solid as the others so it goes down much easier, especially when one is gasping and grasping for breath and water bottle to wash it down. It feels more organic and easier on the gut also. It's the best I've found.

If form factor was not a concern, the tangerine PowerBar Gel would be hands down my favorite all around gel. The taste is great, it packs enough caffeine to pick you up if you're about to bonk, and the wrapper is thin enough so that it is easy to squeeze out every last drop of gel from the wrapper. The thin, low profile wrapper is great if you put gels in your pocket, as most exercise clothing is thin and low on space. It's also less likely to poke you than other rigid gel packages.

That said, if you tape gels to your bike frame like I do, the thin wrapper that works so well for squeezing works against you if you want them to stay flush on the bike frame. They end up sagging over the side of the bike which not only can be an aerodynamic issue (okay, maybe not a major concern for everyone), but the added stress on the side of the package ends up prematurely tearing the gel open. I haven't actually experienced the wrapper leaking on my bike yet, but I have noticed the beginnings of a tear on the wrapper.

In conclusion, if you don't tape gels to you bike post, the tangerine PowerBar gels rock. If you do, consider Hammer Energy Gel (12 pack) instead (but Hammer Gels are a little more difficult to squeeze and get the gel out, and have a thicker texture).

Kashi Brown Maple Instant Oatmeal

Kashi Brown Maple Instant OatmealThe cereal itself is very good. Excellent, natural ingredients, and not too sweet like many of the retail oatmeal packets you get elsewhere.

I just noticed Amazon's small-type disclaimer that you can return the cereal if you're not satisfied with the freshness date. I received it on Feb 3 and it's dated good till March 16. I guess I can use up 2 boxes (16 packets) in 6 weeks, but I shouldn't have to, and returning the cereal is really more trouble than it's worth given the box size, packaging requirements, and need to take it to the post office. Also, if Amazon paid for the postage both ways, they'd lose money on this sale, so why bother?

By the way, I've checked out other Kashi products we've purchased at brick and mortar stores and the expiration dates go out 6 months or more in all cases.

How about Amazon just not ship cereal that's less than, say, three months out from its expiration date?

This Kashi oatmeal smells wonderful as it cooks. I make it with water and microwave it for my daughter. She is a little girl with a severe milk and egg allergy and finding a healthy breakfast that doesn't involve milk or eggs was tough...until we discovered this oatmeal. It has a nice, hearty consistency and a great flavor. For those with a bit of a sweet tooth, a spoon of brown sugar or a drizzle of agave nectar will sweeten it up just wonderfully. A great way to start the day!

I think this cereal tastes okay as cereal, but I like to eat cereals as snacks--right out of the box. This one doesn't work well that way because of the size of the flakes, the fact that they separate from the powdery flavoring, and they stick to your fingers. Of course, you'll probably use hot water with yours. Kashi adds a bunch of vitamins which is nice, but the big hype on oats is overblown. My ex-girlfriend had high cholesterol and calculated how many oat muffins she'd need to get the number down to acceptable--tons of them each day. She's a computer professional & VERY bright--and persistent. The muffins were good too--esp. the smell as they baked. You can't eat enough of this cereal to do the trick. No way. Still, it's a convenient packet & tastes okay.

Natures Path SmartBran, 10.6 oz

Natures Path SmartBran, 10.6 ozThis product was obviously inspired by the large multinational companies that put out two cereals that boast something like 13g fiber per serving.

The problem I have with those products is when you read the ingredients list, you need a degree in biochemistry to understand them. Furtermore, they contain either artifical sweeteners or the dreaded hi-fructose corn syrup, which has no place in a natural foods diet.

Here you get the same high fiber as those aforemetioned products, but the list is "clean".

Whether you desire a high fiber cereal for the health benefits or to accelerate weight loss (see Dr. Connely's book, he's the inventor of Metrix), this is a no-brainer.

Congrats to Nature's Path for formulating a cereal with the same fiber content as the popular brands, but with ingrediens that are recognizable.

Envirokidz Organic Leapin' Lemurs Peanut Butter & Chocolate Cereal, 10-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6)

Envirokidz Organic Leapin' Lemurs Peanut Butter & Chocolate Cereal, 10-Ounce BoxesLeapin Lemurs GF cereal is like Peanut Butter Panda Puffs and Koala Crisp mixed together, except it is all puffs. It is pretty expensive at my local grocery store. I end up paying a whole $2.00 more than on some of the other envirokidz cereals. I ate this cereal once and it was good, and I'm glad that envirokidz came up with this chocolaty, peanut butter cereal. But as it is so expensive, I just buy Peanut Butter Panda Puffs and Koala Crisp and mix them. I do wish that Leapin' Lemurs had the same amount of chocolate and peanut butter puffs, but us Celiac's can't be too picky. I hope you choose to enjoy Leapin' Lemurs! :)

I am an 18-year-old Celiac who recently discovered this cereal. I ADORE it. It's perfect for kids as well as adults. I find myself constantly craving it--if I had even an iota less of self-control, I would probably eat nothing else. I look forward to my mornings just so I can consume my daily allotted amount of Leapin' Lemurs. :-)

My kids love this cereal. It has the peaunut butter puffs like "Panda Puffs" with about half as many chocolate puffs. If you like "Panda Puffs" and you want a little chocolate flavor added, this is perfect.

This is a great product and is the only GF/CF product I've managed to get a visiting autistic child (who is not on the GF/CF diet) to eat. As this child "stims" frantically after he eats his usual wheat/sugar and milk laden favorite junk food cereal, his father is now finally considering having the child try the GF/CF diet (hallelujah!). Our daughter who is also autistic (you'd never know it, she has strictly followed the diet since toddlerhood) enjoys the Envirokidz GF/CF cereals. Their chocolate rice cereal is another favorite of our entire family. This product goes with us whenever we travel.

I've tried most of the EnviroKidz products and love them, even though there are no kids in my house. They're a great, trusted brand in the gluten free community and they always deliver products that have great taste that anyone loves along with a nutrition panel and ingredient list that doesn't scare you.

Leapin' Lemurs is a classic peanut butter / chocolate combo that stays crunchy in milk longer than the average cereal does. It reminds me quite a bit of captin crunch cereal, only healthier and gluten free. I do wish the box was a bit bigger at only 10 ounces, but no complaints worth taking a star away from this great product.

Kashi Hills Cereal, Blackberry, 9.8 Ounce

Kashi Hills Cereal, Blackberry, 9.8 OunceI really like this cereal. It most reminds me of Special K Redberries, except that it has all natural, organic ingredients. The flakes are a bit more like regular cereal, but crispier. The blackberries are very good as well. This is going to be my new favorite! I hope Amazon carries it soon, as it's hard to find in stores.

Klein's Naturals Hazelnuts, Raw, Shelled, 10-Ounce Tubs (Pack of 6)

Klein's Naturals Hazelnuts, Raw, Shelled, 10-Ounce TubsI love these nuts. I eat them raw out of the container and every last one taste great too me. No problems with stale nuts in my order.

There are a lot of choices on the net for buying Hazelnuts, and I went to Klein's simply because the price was the best. Now after receiving them I would highly recommend them also for the taste, freshness, packaging, and speed of delivery. They get all my future business. Tim
