RiseBar Protein, 12-Count Bars

These bars are a great source of protein, but they are so sweet that I have to wash them down with something. I realize that they need the honey to make them stick together, but would appreciate a less sweet snack.

I recently tried Rise Almond Honey Protein Bars for the first time. My favorite protein bar up until this point had been Clif's Builder-Plus Chocolate, but I'd been seeking to switch from a soy-based protein to whey-based. The Rise Bar totally fit the bill, I like the taste, & don't find myself having any kind of an issue with the texture. It's not a texture that sticks to your teeth, but in flavor, the closest thing I can identify is an old-fashioned Bit-O-Honey bar, which I don't mind at all. It is sweet, but not overly so, no more than other protein bars.......definitely not excessive in sweetness. Another great thing is that it maintains a very high potassium level, with next to zero sodium.........only 25 gram in this bar. I would definitely recommend this bar, both with regard to content and flavor.

I tried these bars about a year ago. I really love them and they keep me full. On reading the reviews about blood sugars spikes for the Quest Bars, I tested my blood sugars. With me being diabetic, I thought I would also test this with the Rise Bars. My blood sugars this morning were 106 and after eating the Honey bar, my sugars jumped to 160. So it did jump my sugars up by 54. The Honey Rise Bar has 13g of sugar vs. 2g with the Quest Bar (101 to 169). So it seems to be about closer in sugar increases. I am going to test this against my hemp protein shakes to see if it is about the same. If so, then I am not as concerned with the jumps per it would be a normal reaction to eating food.

This is one of the most nutritious bars out there. Of course for anyone with health issues, I don't recommend bars at all, since they, by design, have too much sweetener in them. American society can't seem to purchase anything that isn't sweetened, or is it that American food industry won't make anything that isn't sweetened. The challenge even with the rise bar is that it is sweetened with Agave (and a bit too much). Depending on the source of agave (specifically how much the provider has processed it), agave "nector" could have been turned into High Fructose syrup. And, the rise bar doesn't need that much sweetener. I think they are trying to make it taste like a sni***** candy bar (to sweet). The rice already provides soe sweetness and perhaps some stevia or luo han guo extract would do well to give a nice taste. And, since such a minimal amount would be required, it might even make the manufacturing cheaper once they modified the lines. Who knows. I just wish that companies like this would lead nutrition trends a bit more aggressively. All the ingredients are nutritious, except the Agave (likely), by themselves, so start buying into the sweet-tooth brain-washing! The audience buying these bars are health-nuts we don't want things to be crazy sweet. With a little modification, I'd buy it again. It was one of the only Carob bars on the market that I could find.

Carnation Breakfast Essentials, Classic Chocolate Malt Powder, 10-Count Envelopes (Pack of 6)

The name may have changed but still tastes the same. Although all the flavors are great Malt is my favorite and has been since the 80's! Problem is that my local stores stopped carrying the 10 count Malt packages and I had to buy the Assorted. With only 2 Malt envelopes I found myself rationing and still when I craved a malt I found I had run out already. I happened to stumble upon it here and found the price acceptable. Now I never run out! Once in awhile I'll have a desire for another flavor and that's where the assorted comes in handy but I am pleased I'm now fully stocked with malt. It really should be added to the subscribe and save program.

First, I have to say that I only spent about $28.00 for a pack of 6 vs. the $52.00 that's shown online now. I hope that the price goes down soon so that I can buy more since this flavor is not available at our local grocery stores. With that said, I will say that the malt flavor is my favorite and for one simple reason. It's the only flavor from Nestle Carnation Instant Breakfast drinks that contains no artificial flavors. To me, that's important since this is what I give my two kids for breakfast every morning. I used to buy them the regular chocolate flavor, but then noticed that it had artificial flavors, whereas this one did not. I guess to them, chocolate is chocolate because they did not complain or even notice when I switched and started buying this malt flavor.

Welsh Brew Tea, Tea Bags, 40-Count Package (Pack of 4)

I discovered Welsh Brew tea a couple of years ago at my local grocery store in the "international" section but they haven't been able to keep it on the shelves consistently so I'm happy to find it here at Amazon. I'd been looking for a more mellow, less acidic tea for many years and this is it. In comparison, PG Tips is very acidic to my taste. It made a good strong cup, I could even say it had a "sharp" flavor, but it left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth. Welsh Brew leaves no bitter aftertaste. It's smooth and leans toward the sweet side of tea flavor. As another reviewer put it, it's a good "anytime" tea. I'll add that it's delicious by itself and needs no accompaniment like milk or sugar but works well with those if you wish to add them.

What's good about this:

1.) It's a lot of tea--forty bags in each box, and four boxes in each unit. If you drink two cups a day, it will take almost three months to use all of this up.

2.) This is strong, dark tea with lots of caffeine.

3.) The print on the box is half in Welsh, half in English. It's very cute, and I have no idea how to pronounce any of it.

What's not so good:

1.) The tannin content is so high that you can feel it in your teeth, even when it's cold.

2.) The tannin content is so high that if you let it steep for more than about thirty seconds, you'll be tasting tannins all day.

Steep for a very short period of time, and this is a very strong, flavorful tea that's actually inexpensive; reminiscent of Twinings English breakfast tea, with a strong bite, a little goes a long way. It's bitterly yummy.

Welsh Brew is an excellent anytime tea. We have been drinking it for years and are delighted to find it again on Amazon. We have had it on our list for notification of availability and were pleased to see it return. This is a tasty tea with lots of flavor and is great with sugar and milk.

This is a very tasty treat. 250 cal., 13g fat (2g saturated), no cholesterol, 29g carbs (19g sugar, 4g fiber), 6g protein. It has 16% daily value of iron. Plus it has a very chocolate-y taste with real raspberry flavor. Looks a little like a brownie.

The bars taste ok, they're easy to eat and relatively healthy. That being said, beware! I actually chipped my tooth on a pit fragment of some kind. I bought a case, and so far two of the eight bars I've eaten have had large, rock-hard pit fragments.

I love my coffee, I cannot deny that. And every so often I just want a fresh cup at night. Age has made it so that I can't consume caffeine in the evenings and crash like I used to in my early 20s. Powdered Egg Whites - 2.25 Pound Can

I buy a good deal of liquid egg whites and just recently discovered the powdered form, which would save all kinds of time/money/energy. I went ahead and purchased the 2.25lb jar, but not from here. Honeyville's company website lists the exact same 2.25lb egg white can for 23.99 and 4.49 flat shipping for any order. Amazon's price as of this writing is 32.49.

Amazon.com shopping tip: if there is only one price shown for the product, as opposed to a 'list price' with a line crossed through it and a cheaper, generic 'price' underneath, then there are likely better options available elsewhere.

I purchased Honeyville Food Products' Powdered Egg Whites for many years directly from Honeyville Farms. During that time, the ingredient labels on the cans have always stated: "Ingredients: Powdered Egg Whites" and nothing else. I will say that I love this product. Even cooked in butter as scrambled eggs with just a little salt, it tastes like whole fresh eggs to me. Definitely no offensive odor or taste.

Eariler this week I was going to purchase another can when I happened to look at the ingredients listed on their Web site -"Ingredients: Egg Whites, less than 0.1% sodium lauryl sulfate (added as a whipping aid)". This came as a great surprise to me, I thought they had started using SLS as an additive. I decided to do some research and couldn't find anything about SLS except that it is used in soaps, shampoos and toothpastes. Nowhere was there a mention of it being in food. I went so far as to question the FDA. Yesterday I wrote the following e-mail to the Director of E-Commerce of Honeyville Food Products, Inc. and received a reply today:

"I have purchased your powdered egg whites for a number of years and have been extremely happy with them. I also purchase some of your other products that do not contain additives or preservatives...

I am very unhappy to see that Sodium Lauryl Sulfate has been added (to your powdered egg whites). Although this additive is approved by the FDA, I see little use for it to be in an egg product. I realize SLS has been used for many years in soaps, shampoos and other products that are expected, by the general public, to foam. But, these are products that are used externally and then rinsed off. Even then, SLS is an irritant to some people. I also realize that the FDA requires SLS to be used in lesser amounts where foods are concerned, but when using a product daily as I do the powdered egg whites (for smoothies) I worry about the build-up over time.

The only possibility I can see why this additive is being used is because of meringue. I made meringues numerous times with your egg whites and they have always come out high and beautiful -there was never a need for SLS".

Following is the reply I received today:

"I'm sorry to hear that we've lost you as an Egg White customer. Our Egg Whites have always had the small amount of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate as a whipping aid. When Egg Whites are pasteurized they lose the whipping characteristics that fresh egg whites have. I appreciate the feedback and will weigh it against that of the customers that need the Egg Whites to whip up. Thanks and have a great day.

Well, now I know why my meringues turned out so beautiful -because of a surfactant used in what I thought was a simple and pure product. I don't want to vilify SLS, I'm just looking for honesty in marketing so I can make a choice.

I have been weight training and trying to eat a higher protein diet. I can no longer bear the sight of turkey, egg-white omelets or cottage cheese. I dislike artificial sweeteners (mostly due to their taste) so I don't care for any pre-made shakes I have tried. I turned to whey protein (bleck...maybe more experimentation will yield something better)and soy protein (bleck redux) but couldn't stand them.

But I like this! I wouldn't eat it plain (it's not THAT good), but the taste is easily coverable with yummy and healthy additives. This morning I made a "shake" that was 1C OJ (Tropicana Grovestand), 1/4C (appx) pure pomegranate juice, 1/4C egg whites (22g protein), 1/4C (appx) plain non-fat yogurt, and one banana. I blended these together with a few ice cubes, and yum! Even my kids love it!

It probably has a lot of naturally occuring sugar from the fruits and yogurt, but I am happy with the content and nutrients, and I can drink it happily without forcing it down!

I have tried the Honeyville dried fruits and been pretty happy with them as well (much better blueberries than for pancakes), so I will look forward to adding these for variety when I can't find good fresh fruit.

If you enjoy puffed whole grains, this is one of the best to eat because millet is very nutritious, and it is one of the few breakfast grains that is alkaline instead of acidic.

I like to toast these slightly in the oven for best results (these are very small puffed grains, so they will get soggy if you leave them sitting in milk too long), and at breakfast I mix them in my bowl with a sweeter flaked cereal to balance out the sweet taste with a more mild taste and different texture.

Freeland Go Raw Live Bars Pumpkin, 1.8-Ounce Bar (Pack of 20)

I tried these yesterday and liked them so much Im forking over the big bucks to buy a

whole case. I've tried other health bars but they were too sweet even though they didnt

have refined sugars. This bar is perfect! The taste is complex and subtle with the

right hint of spiciness. My only gripe is the price.

Of all the "raw" bars I've tried this one is the most completely raw. No cooking just drying under 105 degrees and everything is sprouted. You can get a sample of 5 flavors under "specials" on the website although with a very hefty shipping price but much cheaper than buying an entire box, especially of a single flavor.

I've tried 3 of 5 flavors and this is one of the best. Big seeds, very chewy like fruit leather and no tummy problems after eating. You can taste the goodness. Those of you used to these bars tasting sweet and dessert like will not like this, it's very basic and tastes like pure health food. The dates add the only sweetness. It's incredibly expensive (the most expensive bar I've tried yet!) so I'm not sure I'd ever repurchase without a good deal on them or just stick with something more reasonable. Worth trying, however, so get your samples on their site and figure which one is for you. :)

I have eaten a number of prepared raw snacks, and this one is my favorite. It is much less sweet than any of the others, which I like. The primary ingredients are sprouted seeds, which are sweet and delicious enough for me alone, plus some date, agave and Celtic sea salt for enhancing the flavor. One bar lasts me a long time as I chew it slowly to savor all of the goodness.

Go Raw Organic Live Pumpkin Bar has the right ingredients to become a great food bar. Organic ingredients checked, sprouted seeds checked, raw foods checked, gluten-wheat-and-nut-free checked.

But unfortunately, it doesn't taste good, at least to me. It's hard, dry and difficult to chew. Yes, it fills your mouth with the flavors of pumpkin seeds, but the tough texture makes eating difficult and spoils the eating experience. With each bite, you've got to chew really hard and long. Even then, I'm not fully convinced that I've thoroughly broken the food down in my mouth. Going healthy doesn't mean eating foods such as this. Bob's Red Mill, Organic Extra Thick Rolled Oats, 32 oz (2 lbs) 907 g (FOUR PACK)
