Quaker Steel Cut Oats 24 oz (4 pack)

Quaker Steel Cut Oats 24 ozI grew up on various hot cereal products and frankly, I loved almost all of them. My wife however, didn't like ANY of them. One day as we sat in the restaurant of a nice bay area hotel, she ordered 'steel cut oatmeal' for her breakfast... and I joined her. She loved it.

I found Quaker's Steel Cut Oatmeal hard to find...but definitely worth it! Thank goodness for Amazon... the Sears Catalogue of this century!

I've eaten both the Quaker Steel Cut Oats and the McCann's Irish Cut Oats. Of the two I think the McCANN'S Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal, 28-Ounce Tins (Pack of 4) has a bit better flavor. The McCann's brand seems to taste nuttier.

As to the Quaker Steel Cut Oats: Not bad for something you can easily buy in most grocery stores. The cooked oatmeal is not mushy or pasty but has a bit of texture. Also, I had no problems with "rocks" as the oatmeal cooked up tender but a bit chewy.

Recommend with caveats given.

Great product, very nutritious and healthy. I have it at least 4 times a week and love to add raisins to it to make it better!

I've started to move to steel cut oats from standard Quaker oatmeal. I've tried 3 different brands so far including McCann's. I have a certain amount of attraction to Quaker's steel cut oats. In a sense I agree with the one star that said they tasted like rocks, because they are the most chewy oats out there. They're in a class of their own, probably twice as chewy as McCann's, even with extra water. So, if you like the chewiness of steel cut oats, this is your brand. If you find McCann's just right, this will probably be over the top for you.

Fix it how you like, I personally recommend raisins, brown sugar, and cinnamon, mixed with hot water straight from the kettle in a large bowl, then microwaved for 90 seconds. It boils for most of that, and still remains quite chewy, and quite good.

I reviewed this before and as I said I was very happy with it.

I will order again when I run out of these.

Kay's Naturals Better Balance Protein Cereal French Vanilla -- 9.5 oz

Kay's Naturals Better Balance Protein Cereal French Vanilla -- 9.5 ozI always eat Kay's protein cereal since it's about the only cold cereal that contains more than 1 or 2 grams of protein. It also has no wheat, which is fine for my gluten-free body.

I especially like the vanilla flavor; I'd rather add cinnamon than have so much of it in their apple-cinnamon variety.

Eden Sweet Brown Rice Mochi

Eden Sweet Brown Rice Mochi, 10.5-Ounce PackageMochi is a rice cake made out of sweet rice, which is very sticky rice. Eden's Mochi is made of sprouted brown rice, which is famous for its health benefit. The ingredients for this super tasty mochi is only sweet brown rice. It's fairly expensive, but it's pretty expensive anyways if you buy white mochi that is not too healthy but okay. It comes with the benefit of brown rice, such as Thiamin B1, Niacin B3, Phosphorus, Magnesium, Zinc, Iron, and Manganese. Very easy to make this super food by just put a cake on a sheet of aluminum foil in the oven toaster and bake it at 425F for about 5~7 minutes. When you see it's puffed up, then it's done! Take it out, wrap it with a sheet of Nori (seaweed sheet), and use soy sauce or Liquid Amino as the dipping sauce. It makes fast breakfast that is super nutritious! You could eat this super delicious Mochi with cinnamon & sugar, which makes it very healthy and tasty desert. I buy this using Amazon's subscription program and never let it run out in our household.

This was my first time trying mochi and I loved it. I decided to try brown rice mochi because its fairly healthier than typical mochi, but I was worried that it wouldn't be as good. I was wrong, this mochi has a nice "nutty" or "toasted" flavor. The texture is excellent, when you bake or fry mochi it becomes chewy on the inside and crispy on the outside. I tried the mochi baked which was very good, I made mochi crust pizzaI almost liked it better than regular pizza and I attempted to make zanzai, however I think that you need white mochi for that recipe because the brown rice mochi didn't hold up as well. Regardless of that this is an excellent product, and I highly recommend it to those who like mochi and those who have not tried it.

I love mochi but it's really a long, difficult process to make it from scratch. I usually buy brown rice mochi in the refrigerated section and it's very good. However, this doesn't need to be refrigerated so it can be stored in a cupboard until you want to use it. It says it must be refrigerated after opening but I never have any left over! It cooks up quickly to a puffy, chewy neutral sort of nutty flavor and you can dip it in jam or maple syrup as a desert, or dip it in salsa or guacamole or other dips for something more savory. They suggest on the carton to try grating it like cheese over vegetables which I will definitely try. This is truly a guilt free treat! It doesn't get much healthier than brown rice and this is a delicious way to enjoy it.

It's not easy to make Mochi at home from scratch. Mochi is a great substitute if you are trying to get away from sugary sweets. As others have mentioned it is a quick and easy breakfast wrapped in a sheet of Nori......very satisfying. As I age, I seem to be getting lazier, but do not want to sacrifice quality in my life. This is a simple to prepare food.....sushi too.
