Post Grape-Nuts Cereal 24 oz

Post Grape-Nuts Cereal 24 ozI have been eating Grape Nuts on and off for many years and re-discovered them a few months ago. I'm not going to say it's for everyone, but I love its crunch and heartiness. Even though I eat much less of it than other cereals at a sitting, it keeps me full longer. I often eat it with fruit on top, but not always. It's not usually a cereal I eat every day, but I'll eat it a few times per week.

After reading a 1-star review claiming that Grape Nuts is made with white flour, I did some research. What I found out is that the "recipe" for Grape Nuts has changed since it was originally produced. But IS it made with white flour? Well, here's the ingredient list and an explanation of them:

Whole Grain Wheat Flour, Malted Barley Flour, Isolated Soy Protein, Salt, Whole Grain Barley Flour, Malt Extract, Dried Yeast

Regarding whole grain vs. whole wheat, Fitday.com says this: "Whole grain has the entire kernel of the grain from the bran to the endosperm to the germ. Whole wheat has the bran and germ removed during the refining process and is left containing only the endosperm. Unfortunately, the majority of vitamins and fiber are contained in the wheat bran and wheat germ that is shed during the refining process."

According to the Bob's Red Mill website (they sell flour and grain products), malted barley flour is used to "give bread a slightly sweet flavor and moist texture." It also prolongs the shelf life of products.

Isolated Soy Protein (aka Soy Protein Isolate) is a common protein additive in vegetarian foods to provide protein to those who are not meat eaters. It is not without controversy as an ingredient, but then soy as a whole has been controversial of late due to its estrogenic properties.

Malt extract also contains protein (and some sugars).

Whole grain barley flour is a non-wheat flour made from ground barley.

Yeast and salt are pretty self explanatory.

Here is the nutritional information per 1/2 cup serving:

Polyunsat Fat 0.5g

Monounsat Fat 0g

Cholesterol 0mg

Sodium 290mg

Potassium 220mg

Total Carbs 44g

Dietary Fiber 7g

Sugars 5g

Other Carbs 32g

Protein 8g

You're not going to find a lot of cereals which provide that much protein and fiber with that little sugar. In addition, you get a nice boost of potassium.

I'm not saying the stuff is perfect nutrition, but it is a lot better nutritionally than most of the crap in the cereal aisle these days!

I love this cereal. I use soy milk and some fruit. For me, I like to let it soak up the milk until the cereal is softer to eat. But I have eaten when it is crunchy too. I would recommend that you hold on to the bottom of the box because the cereal settles on the lower part of the box and tends to fall out of your hand [ they must be using lighter paper in the box].

I used to love this stufftill I found out it was made with white flour. White flour has most of the nutrition removed, it is like dead. Might as well eat donuts.

Chex Cinnamon Cereal, 13.5-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 3)

Chex Cinnamon Cereal, 13.5-Ounce BoxesI've been gluten-free since 2007 and I believe I've been eating Chex cereal for most of that time. I love the taste and my stomach and body feel fine even after a big bowl. I have yet to find an alternative that tastes better. In addition, this is far cheaper than any of the brands that identify themselves as gluten-free. I find the cinnamon to be even better than the rice or corn chex, but also a bit pricier. Adding cinnamon to the regular cereals gives the same effect.

good hint of cinnamon, not strong at all and gluten free.

didn't know what to expect but I was very very pleased.

I absolutely LOVE this variety of Chex. Great taste of Cinnamon! Still tasty when soggy after sitting awhile (kids don't let me sit long enough to eat a full bowl all at once).

I first tried this when on sale at the grocery store for $2/box. Wish I'd bought 100 boxes at that price!!! Amazon, please make this a core item and add to Subscribe & Save. Pretty please?

Bakery on Main Gluten Free Granola, Cranberry Orange Cashew, 12 oz

Bakery on Main Gluten Free Granola, Cranberry Orange Cashew, 12 ozI've tried several of the Bakery on Main gluten free cereal flavors. Most are too sweet for my taste for breakfast. However, I do enjoy them as dry snack food. I am currently eating a bag of Triple Berry Crunch. I find this flavor not to my liking at all. The berries are SOUR and the granola has what I would describe as an odd consistency. It is VERY high in fiber with 9 grams per portion. Since one portion does not seem to be enough for breakfast, I eat 1.5-2 portions. TOO MUCH fiber at one time!

I ALSO tried the Bakery on Main gluten free granola bars. Somehow, with whatever liquid is used to hold the granola together, they come across as soggy.

Red Rose Decaf English Breakfast Tea 40 ct (Case of 6 boxes)

Red Rose Decaf English Breakfast Tea 40 ctI love this tea. It is my favorite tea to make iced tea! I love that it comes in decaf.

It's funny that they call this breakfast tea, because it's decaf. I drink it every day after 2:00 PM until about 10:00 at night so it's not breakfast tea for me. My only complaint is that it doesn't come in K cups. Each of the tea bags is individually wrapped, so I just run water from my Keurig over 2 unwrapped tea bags, then I dump it into a tall travel mug and top off with cold water for a perfect glass of tea to go. That may sound like a lot of trouble, but it's worth it!

Familia Original Swiss Baby Muesli, 8.8-Ounce (Pack of 6)

Familia Original Swiss Baby Muesli, 8.8-OunceI began looking for this product from Amazon after my local WFMs stopped carrying it and I wasn't able to find it anyplace else in my home area. Many years ago, perhaps as many as 40, I used to buy and enjoy the Original Familia Swiss Muesli, based on the recipe of Doctor Bircher-Benner. A few years later, I moved to a remote location where it was difficult to find Familia for sale. When I returned to "civilization" again, I discovered that the Familia company had seemingly changed their recipe; it was no longer the same texture that I had remembered from before. It was as if they had removed the finest particles of the cereal or whatever it was that had quickly absorbed the milk, and seemed also to be a higher percentage of rolled oats. As a result, the muesli took longer to soften to the desired consistency and just didn't have the same feel in the mouth.

When I discovered Familia Original Baby Muesli a few years ago, its blend of fine ingredients reminded me of what was missing from the "new" Familia formulation. I quickly found that I could mix the Baby Familia with the "adult" Familia (in about a one to two proportion) and approximate what I recall as the original cereal blend. I now enjoy Familia Muesli cereal the way I remember it.

If buying it here in quantities of six boxes at a time, I suggest storing the extra in the freezer or refrigerator.

We have searched and searched for this cereal! My kids have both eaten it several times a week from about 6-8 months in age and my oldest is now 4 and still adores it! So quick and so healthy. When they were little, I mixed it with breast milk and now just with regular cold milk. Can be made with soy, cow's milk, almond milk whatever your preference as it alters the flavor a little. Its naturally sweetened with the fruit and seems to fill them up well! We have had to search it out and special order through Whole Foods and I have regularly stalked amazon hoping to do a subscribe and save! So thrilled to see its finally in stock!

Apparently, I ate it as a baby too!

I began using this when my daughter was about a year old to get a little more fiber in her diet. I use it to make a smoothie drink, mixing 1/3 cup with milk and 1/2 container of a Gerber baby food fruit ( makes about 1 1 1/4 cups altogether), heat it and serve. Well, she's now 7 and that is still her breakfast which she asks for everyday. I panicked a few months ago when I was told the company had stopped making the product. Amazon was out so I found it from a vendor online and paid almost 3 times as much as on Amazon. Very grateful Amazon has it now and for a reasonable price. Who knows, I may need it til she's grown!

My toddler loves this cereal. He prefers this over the oatmeal I make for my older girls. It's got fruit in it. It's perfect.

McCann's Artisan Collection Instant Oatmeal, Madagascar Vanilla Bean with Honey, 8-Count Packets

McCann's Artisan Collection Instant Oatmeal, Madagascar Vanilla Bean with Honey, 8-Count PacketsI was a little skeptical in purchasing this product, as some other flavored oatmeals I've tried in the past have had a strong artificial flavor to them. That is not the case with this oatmeal. The vanilla and honey flavor is so tasty and natural, I am thinking this could be a healthy solution to my nightly sweet-tooth cravings. There are 140 calories in each packet when made with water. It took approximately 90 seconds in the microwave, and doesn't have the chewy stuck-in-your-teeth-for-hours texture of other oatmeals. I was already a fan of the somewhat nutty taste of McCann's oatmeal; with the added flavor of Madagascar vanilla and honey, this is my new favorite breakfast (and just maybe dessert). I came back to this page on Amazon not just to write this review, but to order more. I have a feeling this box will be empty quickly!

I have recently switched over to the McCanns oatmeal and I love it. I eat the cinnamon one every day but like to mix it up once in a while. I bought a box of this to try.

Its not overly sweet and definitely has a natural vanilla taste to it. I like it but its not something I would buy again. There is a weird gritty feeling which could be the little vanilla bean seeds, but its not fun to eat.

The other reason Im giving it 4 stars is because the first bag I pulled out of the box was only half filled. The rest so far have been filled normally.

I am sure there are many people that will enjoy the taste of this Irish Oatmeal. There is nothing wrong with it, just not my taste.

We bought some oatmeal that was suppose to be instant from Costco and it was from the same company but we had to cook and cook and cook the stuff before it would be edible. Needless to say we returned it to Costco. I really didn't want to spend 20 minutes in the morning cooking oatmeal although the oatmeal itself was really good. I saw this on amazon and thought I'd give it a go. This stuff IS actually instant and took a whole 70 seconds to make in our microwave and it turned out great.

like regular oatmeal better. Do not especially care for flavor. McCann plain oatmeal is tastier to me. Okay if you desire more exotic taste.
