FLAHAVAN'S Irish Porridge Oats, 17.5-Ounce Bags (Pack of 6)

FLAHAVAN'S Irish Porridge Oats, 17.5-Ounce BagsAs a life-long American, these were actually something I just randomly tried from a local specialty store. Now I am addicted. I like them better than traditional oatmeal, the taste is more creamy and hearty. The funny thing is that the word "porridge" to me has a connotation of slop that is served as sustenance more than flavor. However, I can tell you that I love this stuff and I feel like it is actually the gourmet version of oatmeal. If you prepare it with water it is quite good, and prepared with milk it is simply amazing.

My Welsh husband recently moved to the US and did not like our oatmeal, or the steel cut version, or any 'porridge' I could find for him. "It just isn't like what I'm used to", he'd say. Then I found Flahavan's in a British shop and they were declared a success. Not wanting to drive an hour each way and pay six dollars a bag for them, I am happy to find them on Amazon for around three dollars a bag and free shipping with Prime. These are very tasty, although I'm more of a fan of the steel cut oats.

My household was out oats, so I made a search on Amazon, and decided to try a brand we've not yet tasted. Since I gravitate toward food items from the UK/Ireland (ancestral roots); and because it had such great reviews, I decided to order this.

I prepared it with 1 cup whole milk, and 1 1/2 cups water, and within a few minutes it was done! (I served mine up with a dash of cinnamon, and a sprinkling of coconut sugarafter tasting it alone).

...This is hands down the best tasting oats my family and I have ever tasted! It's not chewy or tough, and it doesn't require pre-soaking to get a smooth texture.

I don't recall having seen this brand in my local store, so when we run out, I'll be re-ordering!

I have been eating ONLY Flahavan's brand for about 4 years. I noticed by accident as well, in Wegman's, and now nothing else will do! I just went online to order directly from the Flahavan's site in Ireland since Wegman's just discontinued selling it......not enought of us true Irish porridge eaters I guess. I was excited to see Amazon sells it. It is the best/quickest method when done in the microwave. I do the 1/2 cup porridge to 1 cup 1% milk, nuking for 2:15 minutes [make sure you use a deep bowl, as directed] and it's sensational.....creamy, hearty, great flavor. I add walnuts, Splenda, and sometimes raisins or sugar-free Log Cabin if I'm in the mood. Even if you're not an oatmeal afficionado, try this.......good for you, and soooooooo yummy too.

After my lifelong mission to find porridge that could please persnickety Goldilocks, I am relieved to say Flahavan's fills the bill.

As a kid I never liked oatmeal, but porridge was so storied I kept trying, since oatmeal was supposedly it. When I was 14, I visited England, finally tried the real thing, and it was love. Unfortunately, back in the States I could never find anything comparable. So I just kept looking. One restaurant had a tasty and properly textured version, which they claimed was a proprietary porridge blend, but they didn't sell the oats, just the meal at breakfast. I've had the discussion many times: you'd expect all oats are oats, and therefore taste similar if prepared in similar fashion, but they simply don't. I tried every kind of oats I could get my hands on, from German and Scottish imports to bulk hippie/health food co-op organic. Steel-cut, rolled, slow, quick, everything! I soaked overnight and boiled stovetop; used milk, water, cream, and mixtures of them in varying amounts. In spite of wasting a lot of time and oats over the years, I didn't give up.

Like another reviewer here, I found Flahavan's at a Wegmans. A brand I hadn't seen before! Surely it would be a failure like the rest, but it's a pretty small package, why not just try? Thank goodness I bought it. I can't speak with authority for those in the UK, because as demonstrated by my not having seen Flahavan's in 20 years of US oat shopping, you must have many brands I won't encounter here. In the US, Flahavan's is the only brand I've been able to find to make porridge oats that taste like the delicious porridge I had in England. And that's just their simple, microwave in 3 minutes oats! Crazy to imagine after all the trouble I've gone to trying to stew up the perfect porridge. Wegmans is foolish for discontinuing Flahavan's, but I'm thankful they had it for me to find when I did.

For anyone out there looking for creamy (oat-creamy, even made with just water), tasty, tender, truly porridge-y oats, do yourself a favor and try Flahavan's. Even if you think you've got something decent---I used to eat McCann's sometimes, but even though other people in my family still buy it, to me it now tastes so bad in comparison I simply can't settle for it. I'm still open to trying new oats, but for me the lifelong fantasy porridge oats quest has found a firm footing in reality with Flahavan's fairytale deliciousness.

Kashi 7 Whole Grain Pilaf (3x19.5 oz.)

Kashi 7 Whole Grain PilafDelicious and easy to prepare. I could not find it locally so am glad to be able to order from amazon. I use it for a side dish with butter, as a pilaf base and as a cereal.

If your local store doesn't carry the plain ol' pilaf, as in my case, this is the way to go. Especially if you know you'll eat through a lot of it in short order!

It's fairly easy to prepare and versatile once it's cooked. It's going to last me a long time, though, as each box itself contains 3 pouches and I can't eat it all that quickly!

I am not a big breakfast/morning person, but this oatmeal gives me the reason to allow for an extra 15 minutes in my morning routine. It's easy to cook on the stove top and is especially tasty with a little maple syrup, milk/soy milk, fresh fruit and nuts. The oatmeal itself is delicious and creamy, but is extra satisfying knowing that Farm to Table promotes sustainable agricultural practices. All around a great product, as well as a healthy and positive way to start the day!

Dr. McDougall's Right Foods Non-Dairy Hot Cereal, Cranberry Almond Made With Organic Power Grains,

Dr. McDougall's Right Foods Non-Dairy Hot Cereal, Cranberry Almond Made With Organic Power Grains, 3.1-Ounce CupsI guess I'm in the minority in saying that I love the large size of this product :) I normally would make 2 "servings" as described on box of oatmeal or two packets from a box -so this product is perfect sizing for me! 320 calories doesn't seem like an overly large calorie amount either. Even if you were a smaller person and only consuming 1200 calories a day, this would only be 1/4 of your daily calorie needs, and a very healthy 1/4 of your calories it would be.

This is lightweight and easy to throw in a bag and bring to work just add boiling water, or add tap water and microwave and let steep.

I like the occasional sweetness of the cranberries and the occasional crunch of the almonds. It's pleasant without being too sweet. It's also got 8 grams of fiber in a cup.

If you're trying to decide between flavors, I found this tastier than the hot apple cinnamon variety cereal from McDougall.

I love this meusli. So easy to make and "sticks to your ribs" til lunchtime. Tasty as can be. It is awful big, and I often wonder why they make it in the bigger cups instead of the smaller sizes. Still, I usually eat half and keep the other half in the refrigerator for the next day. A spritz of water, and microwave for a minute, stir and it's just as good as the first day.

This stuff also hits the spot when I get the munchies watching t.v. at night. It's sweet enough to hit the sweet spot.

I typically hate instant oatmeal. I often slave over steel-cut varieties, because all of the instant stuff seems to be mushy and lacking in texture and taste.

This is the exception. The oatmeal is thick and has a great texture, and it is chock-full of delicious, real cranberries.

The only thing is there are over 300 calories per cup! I don't think that the ingredients of the oatmeal are to blame; it's because the portion it makes is pretty big! However, if you are not counting calories or if you need a filling breakfast, you'll love this.

Great oatmeal taste with hint of tanginess from the cranberries. Clean, classic and convenient. Perfect for on-the-go and for travel. For instant oatmeal it's superior. I don't even follow the main directions to add water then microwave it; I just add hot boiled water, wait anywhere from 5-10 minutes and it's perfect.

It's a tad sweeter than I prefer (I tend to have a lower tolerance for sweetness than the average person), so I just add more water past the line and it still has a decently thick/gooey consistency; I just have to wait closer to 10 mins. But at least this isn't as sweet as the Quaker Instant Oatmeal or other/generic brands.

Of the reviews that say the taste is bad; what?! I have to assume they must not like hot cereal or oatmeal to begin with...? Because I have to say I'm impressed with McDougall's so far. It even resembles steel-cut oatmeal. Will definitely subscribe from now on.

Very tasty and nutritious, especially if left to thicken after adding boiling water or soy milk. Just the right amount of cranberries in it. No guilt because it's got 0 fat but lots of good stuff.

Crispy Cat Organic Toasted Almond Candy Bar ( 12x1.75 OZ)

Crispy Cat Organic Toasted Almond Candy BarI initially bought these for purposes of being gluten-free, but I genuinely enjoy them! They've recently changed the recipe, as the bars taste slightly less "dark-chocolatey," but they're still delicious. Don't be confused by the toasted almond label. There are very few tiny slivers of almonds, and the bars honestly taste more like a dark chocolate rice crispy bar than anything with nuts. Overall, I prefer these to all other gluten free bars. If only they were slightly less expensive!

Cap'n Crunch OOPS! All Berries Cereal, 13 Ounces

Cap'n Crunch OOPS! All Berries Cereal, 13 OuncesHands down, the best cereal ever conceived by mankind. If Chocolate is the food of the gods then surely these Berries are the breakfast of the gods.

My daughter absolutely LOVES this cereal. It's hard to find her food she likes since she's such a picky eater and this one was a hit.

I hope that the manufacturer keeps this around.

This cereal is very yummy, however, for those prone to cavities or have deep groves in your teeth, beware. This easily sticks to your teeth and requires spending time with floss and toothpicks to remove. Simply brushing does not do. It also has a lot of artificial dyes and flavoring. The dyes will make your bowel movements green for several days (no kidding, this happened to me and my husband). With that said, I till keep eating this cereal at a minimum. I've also been having some stomach problems, not sure if it's related to this.

I enjoy this cereal the only problem I seem to have with it is what it does what I have to take a crap. If you were to take a mouthful of all the green berries and chew them around in your mouth then spit that out that's what my crap looks like. Other than that its a good tasting cereal.

I have a couple grand kids that had a flu bug.

They ate this cereal hrs before they got sick.

Just a note.....the flu was going around at that time, being sick had nothing to do with them eating this cereal.

Needless to say, their bottoms were stained with a bluish green color. How much food coloring are these kids eating?
