Klein's Naturals Raisins, Organic, 12-Ounce Tubs (Pack of 6)

Klein's Naturals Raisins, Organic, 12-Ounce TubsI have had better organic raisins. They are super duper sweet. I had two other brands already opened when I bought thse. These were far sweeter but less flave. Some may prefer that. Small and over sweet. Still. This is better than nonorganic.

Packaging is terrible. Most containers opened in shipping and caused dried up raisins, I thought. One container,of six, was sealed. Even the sealed raisins were dry. Pretty tasteless too.

Bob's Red Mill Organic Scottish Oatmeal, 20-Ounce Bags (Pack of 4)

Bob's Red Mill Organic Scottish Oatmeal, 20-Ounce BagsThese are a great whole grain for healthy eating, and they taste great too. My wife likes them with butter and salt but I like 'em sweet with [whatever]. Usually just brown sugar but you could be use a more healthy sweetener or some berries. I find these oats more pleasing than "Irish steel-cut" styles where the whole oat is just cut in two. These oats are like blasted to bits with a bomb.. ok I think stone ground.. but I like to exaggerate that angry Scots blew them to bits. We subscribed to this product, we like it so well. Recommendations: Buy, Eat.

I don't cook my Scottish oatmeal but stir it into a bowl of unsweetened yogurt, agave syrup, chopped almonds and a spoonful of ground flax seed. It makes for a wonderfully healthy, high protein, high fiber breakfast which keeps me full for hours and hours and full of energy.

My father eats raw oatmeal daily (he's now 93 and still rides a stationary bike fast and steady for an hour a day!) and and I tend to not cook things either, especially oats or veggies. Raw is where it's at..as much as possible anyway. Cooking takes some of the vitamins and fiber out. Delicious and highly recommend!

This is delicious, classic Scottish-style porridge, but it took me a few tries to get it right. The microwave method simply doesn't work you end up with a layer of hardened oats and exploding liquid on top. What is best to do is to use a pan. Boil the water as the package directs (though unless you want it salty, I'd use only a dash of salt as opposed to 1/2 tsp.). When you add the porridge, add it into the simmering water bit by bit, whisking throughly during and after. Then simmer as normal with the lid on. This method solved all my problems with the porridge. It made it fluffy, light and truly edible. No more scraping burnt porridge off the bottom of the pan or rushing to break up gluey lumps. Now, I make a batch of this and simply heat it up with a little milk and cinnamon every morning.

This oatmeal has more flavor than any other oatmeal I've ever tried. It has a wonderful natural sweetness and a slightly chewy texture. It is full of fiber and really needs nothing added to enjoy it's simple "deliciousness"!

I highly recommend this product as well as Bob's Red Mill 5 Grain cereal. Outstanding products.

9/27/12 eta: I noticed some comments about it getting lumpy when cooking on the stove top. I do not have that issue. What I do is I bring the water to a boil. I have the cup measured ready to go. When the water boils, I turn it off and right away I use a whisk to briskly stir the oatmeal in the water. I make sure is well mixed in. Then I put on the lid and let it sit like that with the stove off. I use a stainless steel sauce pan and at around 15 minutes or so, its ready to go and smooth. I have no lumps.

One time I forgot the whisk and it did get lumpy. But never with the whisk.

I don't ever cook oatmeal in the microwave. It just explodes and makes a big mess. Same happens when I make the Rice and Shine. Might be just me though :)

I like to switch up between the scottish oatmeal and the steel cut. These cook faster, so I have been using them more often. I cook up the 4 servings and put the rest in small reusable containers with lids, and just heat them up the next 3 mornings. When I reheat, I just put on some frozen blueberries and heat it together. Then I add a touch of maple syrup. Filling and hearty breakfast.

I am subscribed to the shipments, great price for the 4 bags.

I am going to try making oatcakes with it soon :)

eta 10-7-11: Oatcakes

I found a very simple and old fashioned recipe online for making plain Oatcakes.

1 1/2 Cups Scottish Oatmeal

1/8 ts salt

1 TB butter(or lard) melted

1/4 ts baking soda

1/2 cup hot water

Preheat oven at 325.

Mix the dry ingredients then add the butter and water and knead. Its a very sticky type dough, so I leave it in a bowl at this point to mix it all up first. Then I dump it on my wooden chopping board and I use one of those dough scrapers to manipulate the dough into a sticky ball. Just use extra oatmeal if it gets too sticky. You want it moist enough though.

Then divide into 2 balls and roll them into 6-7 inch rounds. I use my hands a lot at this point just to flatten it down. 1/4 inch thick or so. I usually have to flatten out the edge a bit as it starts to dry out at this point and I want it smooth. Doesn't have to be exact.

Then I use my stainless steel dough scraper to make 4 quarters on each flat by pushing down with the thin edge. Makes a total of 8 pieces for this batch.

Then just bake the pieces for 30 minutes at 325.

What is so great about them is that they are not flavored so they are so versatile.

I like snacking on them with tea, or add a little healthy butter spread. You can use them to layer deli meats on them.

I have send them along with my hubby to work and all he did was add hot water and reconstituted them. Way better than the instant oatmeal.

I usually make 2 batches and keep them in a ziplock bag. They last for days that way. So I can add my oatmeal intake any time when I feel like it. Snacks during the day. They are filling and healthy.

We eat so many oatcakes now that I get a delivery every month at this point. :)

Kraft 100% Real Parmesan Cheese - 24 oz. container

Kraft 100% Real Parmesan Cheese - 24 oz. containerI used to run out of cheese pretty frequently, it's annoying to have to go to the store for just cheese when, as a bachelor, the majority of your diet is buttered noodles with cheese. With this product, I got's cheese for days son.

This container was delivered about an hour ago in a cardboard box with other food items. So far no problem, but after taking this 24 oz container out of the box I noticed it had no tight plastic wrapping around it that could protect it from tampering.

After opening the cover i noticed there was a round paper right under the cover that is supposed to be glued completely around the top of the container. This paper was only glued half way around the container.... in other words, there is the possibility of tampering with this product. I cannot trust it, so even though the parmesan cheese smells good i would rather not take chances on that one.

I use a lot of this Kraft cheese. Put it on almost anything. At the store you get half the cheese at almost the same price as Amazon. Great cheese and deal.

Good deal on mass produced parmesan cheese. Add it to a lot of things and I do like the taste it produces a fair bit. Made an eggplant-onion-tomato stew the other day and sprinkling in some non-fat sourcream and a small amount of this cheese made it rather delectable.

I'm giving this 5 stars because I just love this product; however, it only has a four month expiration date, so I'm going to keep it in the fridge like I always do. It's great on pasta, of course, but really shines if you put some in your homemade white bread recipe!

Bob's Red Mill Organic 7 Grain Pancake & Waffle, Whole Grain Mix, 26-Ounce Bags (Pack of 4)

Bob's Red Mill Organic 7 Grain Pancake & Waffle, Whole Grain Mix, 26-Ounce BagsWow! I'm impressed! Whenever I see whole grain/multi grain on anything, I think of chewing saw dust. This mix makes great pancakes! I make'em more on the crepe side by adding more milk than recommended. Add some chopped walnuts (omega3) and apples and I'm in heaven. Add couple spoonfuls of applesauce if you want even more moist pancakes. Make some raspberry sauce (rasperry jam w/ water zapped for 10 seconds in microwave) and even my most finicky 2 year wolfs them up. Bon appetit!

As a basically lazy person, I have been looking for a healthy, whole grain baking mix that tastes good and doesn't contain any dairy products. Bob's Red Mill Organic 7 Grain is the real deal. The waffles were very tasty and I did not feel like I was gnawing on grit. My only addition is a bit of sweetener and soy milk. You cannot get any better than that. And it's whole-grains.

Addendum September 13, 2008:

I find myself using this mix much as someone would use any baking mix. It makes lovely scones and biscuits. I haven't tried any of the "impossible" dishes that rely on a well-known baking mix; however I suspect that Bob's 7-Grain Pancake and Waffle Mix would work splendidly in that capacity as well.

I've been buying this pancake mix since way before the Internet era. My parents lived in Oregon and when visiting we always went to the Old Red Mill to buy cases of this pancake mix to bring home. I can't recommend it more highly. I've read other reviews where they mention adding extra ingredients but, in my estimation, you don't need to add anything to this mix to make truly wonderful pan "cakes." In fact, I like eating them just with butter, no syrup, they're so tasty. My last cake I add molasses for a special treat.

For years I have been buying Hodgsen Mills Pancake and Waffle Mix...... I decided to try Bob's Red Mill and I LOVE IT!!! I wish I had tried it sooner. I received this yesterday and this morning I made them for my husband and myself. First thing he asked was, "What did you do different to these"? They're Grrrreat! LOL I explained that this was Bob's Red Mill Brand, and after tasting them I will be buying ONLY these from now on. They're whole grain, and Organic, and if you haven't tried them, do a switch, and see if you and your family don't love it.

Extremely versatile and convenient mix. For a little variety just add raisins, chopped nuts, chopped dried apricots, etc. to each individual pancake while cooking and prepare a whole bag at a time. It freezes well, individually wrapped in ziploc bags, and is ready for a quick warmup in the microwave without the mess of preparation. To avoid a tough pancake, heat frozen pancake for 1-3/4 minutes on medium on each side and then 45 seconds on high. Should come out just like it was freshly prepared. Have found that one pancake is quite filling and is sufficient to last until lunch. Enjoy.

Heartland Malted Blueberry Belgian Waffle - All In One, Complete Mix - 80 Ounce Bag (Pack of 1) 5 l

Heartland Malted Blueberry Belgian Waffle - All In One, Complete Mix - 80 Ounce Bag 5 lbs.I bought their Heartland Malted Vanilla Belgian Waffle, which the family loved and I'd give a 5 star too. My son likes this blueberry mix, but not as well as the Malted Vanilla; however, my daughter didn't like the blueberry flavor. There are actually no blueberries in this mix The "blueberries" are actually tiny granules made of sugar, color and flavoring. We're just going to stick with the Malted Vanilla, which we all love.

This is pretty good if you like a lot of blueberries. It's a little too much for me, though. There is so much blueberry flavor, you don't really taste the flavor of the waffle mix at all. I have bought the vanilla flavor, too, and prefer that one over this one. I think it's just a matter of personal preference.

These waffle taste great but why do they stick so hard to the waffle iron? I have been using the Carbon waffle mix and it has been excellent. They practicallly fall right off the waffle iron when I open it. These Heartland waffles stick so tightly that they split in the center and I have to pull and scrape them off the iron. What have others experienced? Are you using and oil on the iron? I have not needed any with the Carbon mix.

The waffles taste good and have a crispy exterior. The problem is the berries. The label says blueberry, not blueberry flavored. No berries, just food coloring.I would have purchased another flavor if I knew the truth. Before I ordered I looked at the label and it looked like there wer berries. What there is is little purplish specks.I try and eat more fruits and veggies and I feel like Heartland lied.Change the label.

I ordered a bunch of different flavors of this brand of mix all at once.I was on a waffle making kick. No one in my house is happy with this brand and now i have a lot left over. Artificial flavor and just not a very good taste. i like something else better.
