ExtendBar, Mixed Berry Delight, 1.41-Ounce Bars (Pack of 15)

Since becoming a diabetic, I have studied foods in an attempt to better control my blood sugar. Some foods (like ones with lots of sugar) spike my blood sugar. If a meal is not carefully balanced my blood sugar and my energy drops too much. So, I am always looking for healthy foods, especially snack foods. What I usually find are great tasting snacks that are too high in sugar, low in protein, and low in fiber. They are good for normal people, camping or taking long hikes, but not for my daily health snacks.

ExtendBar Mixed Berry Delight meets my requirements. This snack has 12 g of protein, 0 sugar (4 g of "sugar alcohol"), and 0 cholesterol. "ExtendBar's" 20 g of carbohydrates is uncooked cornstarch, which is designed to be slowly processed in digestion.

Reviews written in 2007 and 2008 mentioned that the taste was unpleasant and the color of the bar was pink. They must have improved the product because, to me, the taste is pleasant, one of the best snack bars I have ever eaten, and the color is now an off white. It is not sweet, nor tart. It reminds me of a mix of strawberries and blueberries. The bar's taste is almost as good as the actual strawberries and blueberries I eat regularly. As with all snacks, I always consume it with a fluid which helps avoid any dryness.

The Extendbar Mixed Berry Delight is valuable. This is one of the best items for overall health that I have seen on the market. It is low in sodium and sugar (no high fructose corn syrup), and gluten free. On the other hand, high in protein (12g), good fiber (6 g), and sustained energy level. All this good nutrition and only 150 calories. .

The advertised sustained energy level is real. I have tried this for awhile without blood sugar spikes and without low blood sugar (amazing how they do it, but they do). I highly recommend this product.

If you're looking to control digestible carbs -not just sugar -then it'd be nice to know that these bars have a ton of slow-release carbs, and may not suit you.

Which is why, Amazon, it is REALLY frustrating when you don't include nutritional information for food. That's like trying to buy a book without knowing the author, or a computer without knowing how much RAM, hard disk space, or video memory it has.

Yes, sometimes that nutritional information is wrong. WE GET IT. So put on your warning, and move on. Pulling the information because some twits out there are, apparently, outfitting their Himalayan mountain expeditions based solely on the nutritional data you list, and then, I suppose, eating some of their porters when your calorie counts are off, isn't fair to the everyday Joes who just want something to munch on.

For the rest of us, we'd just like to have some small inkling of what food is in the food we're about to buy. Pretty please. Because shopping from Amazon shouldn't mean I have to spend half my time Googling each product to find out what the heck it actually is.

I am just beginning to lift weights on a regular basis & also watching my calorie intake.When I need a filling "pick me up" this bar is the best yet for me. I do not get hungry after eating one. The mixed berry is my favorite but chocolate is good too. I have no health issues regarding sugar, just food intake. This curbs the appetite.

I love the peanut butter chocolate, and the plain peanut butter is also good. This tastes artificial and has a disconcerting Pepto Bismol pink color. I would suggest other kinds.

These bars are great for night time snacks for my husband's

diabetes. He eats them before bed and his night time

crashes have almost been eliminated. He likes the berry

and apple cinimon the best. We are trying another flavor

to see if we can add an additional flavor to his night

time snacks. I love the chocolate peanut, just for

These are the very best gluten free Pancakes I have found in 4 years. Whole Foods used to carry them, but stopped. So I hunted them down and bought a case, thank god for Amazon. I took them to a workshop I taught in Hawaii recently and they were a huge hit with my clients. They use a very good quality chocolate chip and they melt in your mouth. Ahhhhh I will have to make them again soon... maybe tomorrow morning. lol

Kellogg's Special K Cereal Bars, Honey Nut, 6 ct

My bars were ALL tubes of crumbles they hardened back up once it cooled off a bit. The crumbliness did NOT even SLOWme down from eating a BOX a day!!! I love, Love, LOVE this item!!!! The seller is TOO dear for words. :>)

All in all, I think the PROTEIN RUSH RTD are amazing and do exactly what they advertise. In a little less than 2 months, I've increased my muscle mass, lost 10 inches net and 12 pounds and am exactly where I need to be. YAY!!! I attribute this to the clean diet and workout regimen in conjunction with these amazing drinks. I first tried the VANILLA DREAM (delicious and lowest in calories and fat and carbs). Then I tried a case of STRAWBERRY (also delicious and totally worth the extra couple of calories and carbs and fat than what's in the VANILLA). Also got a case of the COOKIES AND CREAM (my absolute LEAST favorite.... didn't like the flavor at all and prefer the VANILLA over this flavor). Today I tried the CHOCOLATE DREAM ~ it was the most delicious, but the only one that gave me a belly ache. I did not have this problem with the other flavors and since CHOCOLATE is the highest in calories, fat and carbs, will probably drink the rest of the flavors before this flavor. Hope that helps. :0)

Product is good and I like the convenience of it being "pre-mixed" however the spout on top of the package has a tendency to leak and can spill. Recommend pouring the drink into another container before consumption.

They were selling this at the gym where I swim. One day I came in to do my laps and was feeling so hungry; they sold me this to get me through my 30 minute swim, and that it did. Then I read the label thoroughly and was impressed that the ingredients were natural and free of all the gunk that some protein drinks add, which would really bloat me. But this digested wonderfully, gives you lots of energy, no sugar, tastes delicious, and now I keep it on hand at home for those days I need energy but do not have time to eat. I keep one in my car for just those times when I need to feed the labido, and do it quickly. I love the stuff. High protein, low calorie, full of nutrition, and tastes like a milkshake. Vanilla is my favorite!

Ancient Harvest Organic Quinoa, Traditional, 12-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12)

Ancient Harvest Quinoa is delicious! The Amazon price is the best I've found. It may seem pricey, but you get a lot of bang for your buck. Quinoa is more of a sprout than a grain and very nutritious (look it up on Wikipedia). Although quinoa is reportedly bitter, Ancient Harvest washes it very well and we did not taste any bitterness at all.

There is a recipe on the back of the box and several more inside. I tried several and they were all delicious. We even like to eat it like oatmeal in the morning. I'm not much into "new wave" food, but this is a winner.

This stuff's great. Comparing calories, it's roughly similar to brown rice. However, the glycemic index is lower, and the amino acid profile is more complete. Plus, there is a lot more protein in quinoa, compared to brown rice! Just check it out on calorie-count.com, nutritiondata.com, whfoods.com, and wikipedia.

Amazon has the BEST deal on quinoa around--12 boxes of this stuff for $25. Sure, it's almost twice as expensive as brown rice, but it's worth it!

Did I mention that quinoa cooks in less than 15 minutes?? Try that with brown rice (and without pressure cooking, cheaters)!

Substitute quinoa for any rice dish. I make spanish rice with quinoa (the 'rice' becomes a misnomer). Same thing for black beans and rice. This stuff's delicious and well textured!

Anyway, spread the word about this thing--it really needs to be a bigger staple in the american diet, along with rice and pasta!!

I love Ancient Harvest Organic Quinoa. It is well picked over for twigs, hulls and debris and has been very well rinsed. It is ready to cook right out of the bag as it is so you can toast it in the pan before adding the cooking liquid. That makes quinoa taste so much better.

It is way too over priced though. Even the way over priced Bob's Red Mill brand is quite a bit cheaper. Quinoa of this quality should not cost more than $3.99/lb. If you live near a Trader Joe's or a good bulk food store get your quinoa there. Currently, here on Amazon, Arrowhead Mills comes in at about that price if you sign up for Subscribe & Save but I've heard that it is not as well rinsed which would be a problem quality wise. Eden quinoa costs over $4/lb here but is still cheaper than Bob's Red Mill or Ancient Harvest.

So quality wise I'd give this 5 stars but because of the poor price/value I give it 1 star, hence the 3 star review.

Quinoa (pronounced Keen Wha) is easy to digest, quick to prepare, and boy is it delicious.

For breakfast add fruit and perhaps some honey or Stevia.

For other meals try using a dressing of olive oil, crushed garlic, crushed red pepper flakes. And throw something like goats cheese, or a few shrimp, or some shreds of chicken, or avocado into the mix. Top with chopped spring onion and cilantro. Yum!

Quinoa is a perfectly balanced food that is incredibly good for you.

If you want to lose weight but not be hungry, this stuff is for you.

(#1 REVIEWER)I started using quinoa as part of healthier eating plan. In calories it is similar to brown rice but with a lower glycemic index. It contains all nine essential amino acids, making it a complete protein.

I like eating it in different ways:

1) A like quinoa as a side dish. It takes sauces very well.

2) I like it cold to add bulk to the salad. My favorite is to mix it with spinach with tangy dressing.

3) I like as a home-made cereal in the morning. I add frozen fresh berries which I defrost in the microwave just until they are slightly warm.

4) Quinoa has fiber to bulk up stool, and phosphorus to stimulate bowel movement. If you combine it with prunes as your morning cereal you get a real cleansing effect!

Here is my favorite recipe for this treat tasty and effective.

1 cup of water

1/2 cup quinoa

1 pinch of nutmeg

1 tsp graded ginger

1/3 cup of chopped prunes

1/4 cup rice milk

Bring the water, quinoa, nutmeg and ginger to boil. Reduce heat and simmer covered for 10 minutes. Then stir in the prunes and rice milk. Cover again and cook for 5 more minutes.

Quinoa naturally grows with a bitter layer of saponins, to remove the bitter test Quinoa is pre-washed before packaging to remove the bitter shell. I was pleased with Ancient Harvest quality, I did not detect any bitterness in their quinoa.

Amazon deal on the 12 box of quinoa is very good but you get a lot! If you are thinking of trying it for the first time I recommend trying one box at a more expensive price to see if you like and if you like it go with the 12 box size order. I have bought different versions of Quinoa at a local Trader Joe's and Whole Foods at about $4 a box.

Glutino Gluten Free Breakfast Bars, Blueberry, 5-Count Boxes (Pack of 6)

If you're diabetic/gluten sensitive this breakfast bar is great to have on hand. How fortunate to have products like this available. I don't know how people did it 20 years ago. I carry the bars with me and it's a perfect snack during the day or in a pinch when I can't eat a regular meal. Blueberries are a great antioxidant as well. Thank you Glutino! Hoping to see more products like this become available!

I personally hated these, but I also hate fig newtons and I didn't buy them for myself. I bought them for my 4 yr old son who is on a gluten-free casein-free diet and is very picky. My son needed a snack option and we wanted to sneak some fruit into his diet. Surprisingly enough, given the reviews and my own opinion, he absolutely LOVES these. So, if you have a child on a special diet, it is probably worth buying a single box and trying it out... you just never know with kids!

I don't eat a lot of different foods because I'm very particular. But these bars are good to me. They taste like a normal fruit bar so they pass my test! Just don't eat a lot at once or they will probably make you sick. The flavor, texture and size is nice. If you have a gluten free diet, I think you should try these. If you have a normal diet, these may be nasty to you. I like them and may buy again but try a different flavor.

Since we have to buy 6 boxes in bulk, I wish there was an option where we could choose more than one flavor in our order. But overall, I'm happy with this product.

I have been sensitive to gluten since 2009, so I'm used to eating really nasty gluten free foods. Now that I've tasted a lot of store bought and homemade bars, I had to change my review. Now the bars are not as good when compared to other brands...but are not the worst I've had. A person not on a special restrictive diet would not enjoy them. I'm on a gluten free diet and I no longer enjoy them. Times have changed and the gluten free world is getting better, so you may want to do your research and seek out better brands or even make some yourself. They're okay, but not great.

My 9-Yr-Old says, " I LOVE THEM! I eat them every morning. They are the best breakfast bar I've ever tasted!!!" I think they are a good alternative to wheat breakfast bars, but I've had better. The texture is a bit gritty. I'm just glad my son has an option he likes.
