Great River Organic Milling, Organic Whole Grains Hard Red Spring Wheat, 25-Pound Package

Great River Organic Milling, Organic Whole Grains Hard Red Spring Wheat, 25-Pound PackageI recently received a Vitamix Blender, and have been experimenting with using it to grind my own flour at home. Once you have tried *real* whole grain flour, you will never go back! The pricing of this 25 pound bag, with delivery, is better than I have been able to find anywhere, and the grains make a great, strong whole-grain flour. Note that this is not flour, but actual wheat seeds (often referred to as "wheat berries").

In addition, the grains are fertile, meaning that you can use them to make sprouted grain. Or if you are a survivalist, you can plant the grains and actually grow a crop!

Another main advantage of whole grain is its shelf life. There are reports that 2000 year old grain has been found and germinated! In any case, if properly stored, you can expect a 5-10 year shelf life from whole grain, as opposed to a much shorter shelf life with flour. I purchsed a 5-gallon bucket with a "gamma 2" lid for storing the grain, and I'm confident that it will keep nicely fresh for a long time to come.

I decided to grind my own flour because in our two person household, the bags of flour go stale before I can use it all. I also store grain now for long term storage because the economy in our area has declined, as a hedge against inflation and unemployment. I was very impressed with Great River Organic Milling Hard Red Wheat and Soft White Wheat berries. I called the customer service number before purchasing the grain to ask about issues related to long term storage when the grain was harvested and how long it had been in storage so that I could put proper dating for use on it when it arrived. All the grain was the new crop grain, having been harvested August, 2011. I had also ordered rye berries, and was concerned how long rye could be stored, using "superpails" with mylar bags/oxygenators/dessicants. They answered all my questions thoroughly. They even told me the best days to place my order so that I would have the best selection and price on Amazon! I was very impressed with their customer service department. I also had concerns that the grain be clean and free of bad kernels or any mold, mildew, or extraneous matter, as my husband was on the heart transplant list and after transplant suppressed immune response is an issue. The rye and wheat was absolutely beautiful. I saw no broken or bad grains at all, no chaff or foreign matter, and the products were essentially dust free. All in all, I was very happy with the rye and wheat I purchased. Great River Organic Milling normally has free super saver shipping for their products on Amazon. Shipping was easy to track and extremely fast: I ordered my grain on a Friday evening around 7PM, and by Saturday 4PM the next day I had my grain, even though I had been told it may take 5-7 days to get the shipment. Great job! I will be ordering more!

25# of wheat seems like a lot when you're trying to find a place for it! Nevertheless, buying it this way is much cheaper because I can sprout it, grind it & grow it--and do.

these berry's grind very well and make great bread however they do not sprout very well, Ive tried 6 times using different methods to no avail, mold developed every time extensively, the best i got was approx 30 to 40% sprouting,so as far as grinding they are good.absolute not for sprouting.i will order again because of price and success in grinding.Ive had 100% success using a different organic hard wheat berry purchased on amazon

This product is wonderful! I don't have anything to compare it to, other than comparing freshly ground wheat flour from these berries and store bought wheat flour. My husband and I were previously buying wheat flour from our coop in the bulk section but had been wanting to get a grain grinder to start grinding our own wheat for nutritional value and freshness. When I grind this wheat to use for bread etc, it performs so much better than the already ground store bought flour. I had much better lift in yeast bread I made a couple weeks ago! I pretty much bake everything from scratch: our sandwich bread, cornbread, granola (that has a little bit of flour in it), desert breads, cakes, hamburger buns etc., so I just keep this in half gallon mason jars on top of some shelves. They look nice and since 8 cups of whole berries makes about 12 cups of flour, it really saves space too. I called several local food stores and could not find anyone who could beat this price. This shipped so fast that I couldn't imagine what was in the box. I will be ordering again!

Plum Organics Training Meals Baby Food - Pasta with Chicken & Vegetables - 4 oz pouch

Plum Organics Training Meals Baby Food - Pasta with Chicken & Vegetables - 4 oz pouchThe product itself is wonderful we usually buy it from Whole Foods. It is perfect even for older babies with just a dash of salt. However, do NOT buy this version. The description didn't specify the number of items, but at nearly $7 (more than 3x the cost at Whole Foods for one), I thought one could safely assume it would be more than one pouch. Low and behold ONE pouch showed up. That too, the package looks dirty and though it isn't expired yet, it definitely isn't as fresh as the ones from Whole Foods. I'm really disappointed with this purchase and will try to return it.

I ordered these for my son for something new and he ate about 5 bites then refused the rest. We switched to a different flavor and he devoured 2 jars, so obviously there's something about this he does not like. He eats table food plus baby food and is 12 months, not sure where this went wrong but it's the first thing he's refused to eat.

I usually buy the plum organics pouch foods as I love the organic and simple ingredients. I bought this one day expecting the same only to read the label when I got home to find that it contains Citric Acid. This is bad for children's teeth and ultimately digestive system so if you feed this to your baby daily you might want to reduce.

I completely disagree with the previous review. This food is a perfect consistency for a "Training Meal" as its labeled. I starting feeding this to my daughter at 8 months and she has never had an issue. She is a great eater and has loved a variety of foods, but this is her hands down favorite. She will eat the entire pouch without a bit of prodding. I have have fed her dozens of these pouches and I have never seen a lump even as big as a Cheerio. Its a great quality food.

The quality and taste of this product are excellent! However, use caution when you feed your baby (which goes without saying). This is labeled as a "starter" meal, but for some babies it may actually take some sophistication to tell the difference between regular pureed food and slightly lumpy food (like this) that needs more chewing. My 11-month old baby is good with finger foods, so I was looking for something intermediate to give him to add some texture and variety. A few bites into this food, he gagged on the lumps and threw up everywhere! This product is smooth enough to fool a baby into thinking it's like regular baby food, but just lumpy enough to catch in the throat. I may try this food again in the future, and I'll try the smooth versions of the brand because I like the quality, but some babies may need more practice before eating the "starter meal" type.

Variety Case, 12 Cans of Future Essentials Canned Breakfast Cereal + Milk

Variety Case, 12 Cans of Future Essentials Canned Breakfast Cereal + MilkI purchased this product for storage purposes. I have not sampled them: they do not come with sealable covers so I've left them in storage for problematic times.

I can say that the protions are small. I store such foods reckoning on feeding several children and grandchildren. Given the small can sizes, they wouldn't last long. The sturdy packaging makes it possible to transport them without undue care. I can throw them in the back of the vehicle without concern. They deserve a good try and I will do that shortly. They are expensive and the shipping is pricey, and I will not purchase more unless I find the quality outstanding. One might consider single larger cans a beter buy.

Taylors Scottish Breakfast Tea (50 Tea Bags)

Taylors Scottish Breakfast TeaSCOTTISH BREAKFAST TEA BY TAYLORS OF HARROGATE is a mighty fine cuppa, if you like it thick, black and rich. As it should be, for breakfast or anytime. Especially tea time. I find this comparable, but not up to the level of, Twinings Irish Breakfast Tea, Tea Bags, 20-Count Boxes (Pack of 6) (see my reviews of all Twinings) because TAYLORS, while solid and substantive, lacks that certain light crisp aroma one finds with TWININGS.

Nevertheless, let it not be claimed that I unnecessarily bash a good tea. TAYLORS might not have anything necessarily Scots about it, unless you think "Scots" should indicate solid and only just up to par but it is tasty and when well minded is not bitter at all. This is one area that causes me massive distress: TWININGS has never been bitter, and never will be. TAYLORS can get bitter simply by steeping it too long, so beware of that.

Lastly, I find TAYLORS to be on the pricey side, though I know half of that is actually Amazon's fault. While the 50-count teabag is not astronomically high, I still find it ... uncomfortable. Taylors really ought to find a way to lose the bitterness, add aroma, keep costs down and hand all that to the consumer on a fine tea tray. With chocolate bickies, if you don't mind. My personal secret: I keep a stash of Taylors Scottish in the back of the breadbox I use as my tea-stash. It comes in handy on a cold night when a good, black, fast cuppa is required.

I love this tea -as well as their Irish Breakfast Tea and English Breakfast tea. It's rich and dark. I don't drink coffee, but do drink lots of tea and feel this tea is worth the price. I used to buy this tea at our local kitchen shop, but it's cheaper at Amazon. If you buy the 6-pack of 50 bags at Amazon, it's even more economical.

Buy Taylors Scottish Breakfast Tea (50 Tea Bags) Now

If you want to get a good sampling of a great tea, this is the way to do it--buy 20 or 50 tea bags as a trial before splurging on a larger order. The sunk costs are only ten dollars U.S., there's free 2-day delivery via Amazon Prime, and you can decide later whether to stock up in earnest.

Leaving aside sentimental attachments to T of H formed while sitting about the kitchen for hours drinking it and working on problem sets for e-mag and analytical mechanics with some of my good college friends, it must be said that Taylor's of Harrogate really know what they're about when it comes to tea...this in a way that many Americans may not equipped to really appreciate. I'll skip mentioning some of the floor sweepings that you can find at the grocery store, but, for literate comparison, the good folks at Twinings are worldwide marketing experts and have made huge strides bringing a selection of decent teas to the peoples in many new markets, viz their English Breakfast is available 'round the world. Taylor's of Harrogate are in my view another thing altogether. I think they offer a better tea to a smaller market cross section. The Scottish Breakfast itself is a wonderfully strong and brightly coloured tea--this is tea-nerd talk, granted--but the color (or colour) of it is remarkable; it gives you straight away the feeling that you've happened onto something rather special. And the flavor (flavour, if you will) is, in the words of my tea-hound office cube-neighbor (neighbour...), "manly." It'll give you a nice boost, but it won't wire you out. It drinks well straight or with milk or even with cream, and of course a little sugar never hurt a breakfast tea. If you like "black" teas (hong chaah!!), this is one you should not miss.

This is a delicious tea with a delightful aroma, perfect for bringing the senses to life first thing in the morning. (It's equally enjoyable with scones at tea time!)

If you like strong black tea this is the best. One bag make a whole pot in minutes. I am glad we found this. It is sometimes in our local stores but we order online too. It is worth the extra money when one bag makes a day's worth of tea!

Fiber One, 16.2 Ounce Box

General Mills Fiber One, 16.2 OunceFor all the trouble to take Metamucil, for its fiber content, the gram fiber count "ain't" much; 5 grams. Fiber one is a crunchy, flavorful, bran tasty, cereal which, in 4 oz gives one 14 grams of fiber. One cup of Fiber One equals 28 grams of fiber. When I stop to think of the ordeal involved taking Metamucil for 5 grams of fiber, though ignorant of the existence of Fiber One, and its 14-28 grams of fiber, I could commit Hari Kari! The cereal is as tasty as ones favorite cereal, a pleasant surprise, and by adding a pear to this morning cereal one hits the 30+ grams recommended by the medics.

All hail to Fiber One; wouldst I had known about it sooner! Fiber One is worth the price of admission! All hail to Fiber One, the greatest product since sliced whole wheat bread!!!

By the end of a breakfast with Fiber One and some fruit, you could have already met 70-75% of your fiber needs for the day. (Fiber One by itself provides 57%.) It's 14 grams of fiber per 30-gram serving is 40% more than Kellogg's All Bran. Unlike some high-fiber cereals, this one (the "original" Fiber One) contains no sugar, but derives its sweetness from Aspertame. As far as I'm concerned, it's the tastiest high-fiber cereal on the market.

A healthy diet is important to me so eating whole grains and fiber is a priority. Of course, like a lot of people, my morning routine is usually scheduled with me spending as little time as possible on each chore.

Problems: I want fiber and whole grains. I'm rushed in the morning.

Solution: Fiber One.

Fiber One is a whole grain, high fiber cereal that contains 14 grams of fiber per serving (60% of the daily value), 0 grams of sugar and just 60 calories.

The taste of Fiber One is just fine, but I usually like a little more variety, so I use it half and half with my other cereal. I fill the bottom of my cereal bowl with Fiber One, then layer in my usual whole grain, high vitamin and antioxidant cereal. Just pour in some low-fat milk, and it's ready. With a glass of orange juice and a slice of 100% whole wheat toast, it makes for a tasty and healthy start to my stress-filled and difficult day!

I bought Fiber One cereal a couple days ago because (1) it was on sale at CVS; (2) I love the Fiber One bars, especially the Oats & Chocolate ("Fart Bars" at our house); and (3) I remembered the old Kellogg's All-Bran Cereal, whose tagline should be "Sticks to Mush in 30 Seconds," and wondered if Fiber One was better.

Boy, is it ever better! No surprise, since the top ingredient is corn bran (Anybody remember Crunchy Corn Bran cereal? That was truly Da Bomb and I don't know if it's even made anymore), which packs a long-lasting crunch and gets you away from that ol' funky wheat bran "good-for-you" insta-mush thing.

I do find it amusing that the cereal's size and shape (like a bacillum bacterium, a stretched-out Good & Plenty) is almost exactly the same as the food our youngest son feeds his newt. "Human Super-Poo Sticks" doesn't have quite the same ring to it, but make no mistake this stuff will clean your clock.

Larabar Lara Uber Bananas Foster 1.70 OZ(Pack of 15)

Larabar Lara Uber Bananas Foster 1.70 OZ(Pack of 15)I used to eat Larabars, but stopped because they are so high in sugar & carbohydrates. When I saw the Uber, that's the first thing I checked, and the Bananas Foster Uber bar (my favorite so far) has only 8g of sugar & 14 g carbs! That's a huge difference as compared to the 24g of sugar & 32g carbs in my old favorite Larabar, Carrot Cake. It is chock full of nuts, sweetness (but not overly as with some Larabars), flavor, and is very filling, despite the slightly smaller size. I think the price is very fair considering it's filled with dried fruit and so many nuts. High quality, and so tasty-highly recommend!

I like these bars but they're only $1.29 at Whole Foods. No reason to spend this much. Also, these bars are 1.42 oz...smaller than a regular Larabar.

I received a trial-size bar as part of a promotion this week and I'm already hooked! This is one of the best nutritional/snack bars I've tried, hands down. As other reviewers noted, the sugar content is much lower and the wonderful sea salt really shines and balances the honey-nut, banana-y deliciousness perfectly. One negative is the bar was unexpectedly soft, warm, and sticky, and I probably should have put it in the fridge for a bit. So the same would happen if I toted it around on my fitness walks on a warm day. (I'd probably freeze it before going out). However, let me tell you, I was actually licking the wrapper where the bar stuck it was that good! LOL *blush*

Overall, this bar is a winner and I'm eager to try the other flavors in this line!

Erin Baker's Breakfast Cookie Mocha Cappuccino, 3-Ounce Individually Wrapped Cookies (Pack of 12)

Erin Baker's Breakfast Cookie Mocha Cappuccino, 3-Ounce Individually Wrapped CookiesI'm surprised this flavor has so many negative reviews. This is one of my favorite flavors, it's not overly rich like some of the others. I love the coffee flavoring, it seems to mellow these cookies out.

I looked at the ingredients of this mocha cappucino breakfast cookie, and saw that it is made with ground espresso. You can taste it as well. Depending on whether you like espresso or not, that's either a good thing or a bad thing. I call these "caffeine patties", because they certainly perk me up after eating one. Just keep in mind if you do not like coffee, you probably won't like these very much.

Let me start with: this is one of my favorite flavors of Erin Baker's Breakfast cookies. That said, my daughter disagrees with me 100%.

The flavor of the mocha cappuccino in the cookie is distinctive. You will either love it or hate it.

If you are a sweet chocolate lover and a sweets lover, this might not 'row your boat'. If on the other hand, you enjoy your cappuccino without sugar and like dark chocolate, you will find that this cookie is THAT flavor combination in solid form. Not too sweet, not too moist, very flavor-ful and excellent when eaten with a cup of coffee.
