Kellogg's Special K Cereal, Red Berries

Special K Cereal, Red Berries, 16.7-Ounce BoxesThis review is less about the cereal and more about the option of buying from Amazon for one of two reasons:

1) If you've never had it, you're probably not going to buy a 4-pack. More likely, you'll go to your local market and buy one box.

2) If you have had it and you're looking at this item, you're trying to decide if you want to buy a 4-pack.

I have a 4-pack delivered every month via "Subscribe & Save" and here's why:

My local groceries carry the smaller 12oz boxes for about $3-$3.50, the 16.7 oz box is usually about $5-$5.50. Bear in mind, this item is a 4-pack of 16.7 oz boxes.

The subscribe & save option from Amazon takes 15% off (did I also mention no shipping, no commitment) which lowers the $20 price tag to more like $17 for four boxes, or $4.25 per boxthat's almost a dollar off what my grocery charges!

So, I get the cereal I love, delivered to my door regularly and automatically, for almost a dollar less than what I'd have to pay if I drove to the store. It doesn't take a college education to know that's a deal!

My mother lives in Colorado and is on a very fixed low income. If I send her money she won't use it so I have found I can help her by buying her groceries off Amazon and having them sent directly to her house and this enables me to be able to help her. THANK YOU Amazon for having products like this on your site. I hope you continue to work with companies and make this affordable to have groceries shipped this way and also to save us the hassels of going to the grocery store when we can have it delivered to our house for about the same cost as going to the grocery store.

I was just two pounds shy of my Weight Watchers goal when I fell off the weight loss wagon and gained four additional pounds. Life was busy, and I wanted a fuss-free way to lose those last pounds before swimsuit season. Since I enjoy Special K products, I thought I'd put the Special K 2-Week Weight Loss Challenge to the test. I ate Special K cereal for two meals, snacked on fruits and veggies (instead of the recommend Special K snack products) and made healthy dinner choices. I didn't expect to lose 6 pounds as advertised, since my weight loss had slowed from months of dieting and I was near my goal weight. To my surprise, I lost 6 pounds and have finally reached my goal weight!

ABOUT THE DIET:

It's convenient and doesn't require much planning. However, it could get a little boring in the long run. It could also be difficult to meet daily nutritional requirements. Also, rapid weight loss could be difficult to maintain in the long run. If you've been dieting and just can't lose those last few pounds, or if you need to lose a few pounds fast for a big event, give Special K a try.

ABOUT THE CEREAL:

One can usually find a box of Special K in my kitchen cabinet. Most often, it is the Red Berries variety. I enjoy the Fruit and Yogurt flavor, as well, but the serving size is 1/4 cup less. The original flavor is also nice from time to time, but the Chocolatey Delight is just not a good idea, in my opinion. But back to the Red Berries. The cereal consists of the usual Special K flakes with dehydrated strawberries. Once I pour on my Silk Light soy milk, the berries plump up to add lots of real strawberry flavor. There are generous amounts of berries and the flakes stay crispy in milk. All in all, this is an excellent cereal that I highly recommend.

Kellogg's Special K Cereal, Red Berries, 16.7-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 4), is a delicious cereal. Since Kellogg is number one -the number one producer of convenience food in the world --we know Kellogg will give us what we want while ignoring the things that do not matter to us.

What do we want?

(1) Flavor. Those real freeze dried strawberries are so delicious that we are tempted to eat them dry out of the box and leave the cereal. The cereal tastes good too. It is sweet, and there is malt flavoring that we love.

(2) Nutrition. With 110 calories per cup, we can measure out a cup and use it for diet food. It has vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, calcium, B vitamins, and minerals.

(3) Grain. There are crispy rice and wheat flakes.

What does not matter to us? (Or does it?)

(1) Sugar. The cereal is loaded with it, but if we did not have it in the cereal, many of us would spoon in a generous application. The second ingredient is sugar. Is that cane or corn? Also listed in the ingredients is high fructose corn syrup.

(2) Nutrition. It is hard to stop with one cup full because we are used to feeling full. A cup of light cereal takes us through the motion of eating slowly . . . that's a plus . . . but does not satisfy the way whole grain cereal does. About the added nutrition: some of us don't need all of what it gives us, or maybe we really do prefer to take them in pill form so we know we exactly what we are getting. Many of us take in more iron than is considered healthy for our specific needs. What your physician will tell you about this issue may be surprising.

(3) Grain. If we are allergic to wheat, we need to pay attention to the label. Also there is corn in the form of fructose. What we are getting is highly refined grain products when whole grain would be better for our health by providing fiber.

With the price out of the range of what we usually spend on breakfast foods, I don't find it a good value.

I love this cereal and I eat it regularly, but at $20 for 4 boxes, you're paying $5 a box, which is outrageous. You can find it in stores for $2 a box, which means that you're paying a 150% markup.

In short: great cereal, terrible price.

Clif Mojo Bar, 1.59 Ounce (12 Pack)

Cliff Bar Mojo Bar, Og, Pnt Btr Prtzl, 1.59-OunceSo I really love the mojo bars, they really hit the spot when you are not in the mood to make a lunch or need something light in the tummy. I haven't tried them all but the ones that I have tried have been amazing. I really love the trail mix, chocolate coconut almond, peanut butter pretzel, and the smores. My favorite being the peanut butter pretzel and I add chocolate chips with every bite lol I wanted to like this one because I have had such success so far with the other mojo bars but this one was not a winner in my book. I mean it is nutritious but really lacks in any sort of flavor. It is niether sweet or salty and is just kind of bland. The nuts dont even really give it much taste but do add a nice crunch. You are getting protien and good fats but you can get that with other more flavorful bars. If you are the type that likes something very simple with no flavor then this is ok, but try the other mojo bars that I recomended so you wont be turned off by sampling this one first.

Post Shredded Wheat Original Cereal, No Sugar or Salt Added, 15-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 4)

Post Shredded Wheat Original Cereal, No Sugar or Salt Added, 15-Ounce BoxesHave had more and more difficulty finding the large biscuits at the supermarket. Have been able to find them on Amazon.com. Now I'm able to have my favorite cereal again!

This is a very economical way to buy Shredded wheat. It retails in local stores for about $4.50 a box. By purchasing on the plan, I can take delivery when I need it at the price that's very reasonable. Thank you Amazon. Shredded Whear bisquits are my favorite cereal.

Very healthy. I add a little cinnamon sugar sometimes to make it more tasty, as it's slightly bland on its own. Usually I eat it with almond milk.

Most stores no longer carry this product. I buy in packages of (4) boxes from Amazon because the price is great. They get delivered in 2 days. With most cereals carrying high processed sugars with little nutritional value, I am thankful that these are still made. I eat this on a regular basis, mostly with fruit rather than plain.

With no added sugar or salt or flavorings, this must be the healthiest breakfast cereal you can buy. It's also the kind of thing people tend to either love or hate and tend to hate as a kid and learn to love as an adult. I've always loved it and still do. I have two biscuits each time, and leave them to soak in the milk before eating them. You can of course sprinkle sugar on them if you must, and add fruit if you wish, but I prefer them with just milk.

Buying it on Amazon's Subscribe & Save makes it very convenient and economical.

GF Harvest Gluten Free Organic Rolled Oats, 41-Ounce Pouch

GF Harvest Gluten Free Organic Rolled Oats, 41-Ounce PouchLike other reviewers, we are extremely grateful to GF Harvest for bringing organic, gluten-free oats to market. We have now gotten three shipments of their oats. Our first two orders were not for rolled oats, but for organic GF Oat Groats, which we purchased directly from the GF Harvest website. Since we are lucky enough to have a grain mill and an oat roller/flaker, we were able to make our own rolled oats, oat flour, and even some crumbled oats (that we liked to pretend were steel-cut). The results: possibly the best-tasting oats that we've ever had, GF or not, crumbled or not. Creamy, sweet, and fresh. In the past, we had used GF oat groats purchased from Cream Hill Estates and Gifts of Nature, but these were mediocre. We have also consumed tons of GF steel-cut and rolled oats from Bob's Red Mill, as well as McCann's, but these were also nowhere near as good as the rolled and/or crumbled oats we made from the GF Harvest groats. Unfortunately, the GF Harvest organic rolled oats are also nowhere near as good as the GF Harvest groats. They just don't have the same fresh, sweet taste that we got from the oat groats. Also, these are not, as the label claims, "Old Fashioned" rolled oats. Flakes as thin as these should really be labeled "quick" oats (which are bound to lose both flavor and nutritional value, simply because of their thinness). We hope that GF Harvest begins to produce true "thick" rolled or steel-cut organic GF oats (BRM produces both "thick" and "quick" GF rolled oats, which, unfortunately, are not organic). Either "thick" oats or steel-cut would do a much better job of retaining the flavor and nutrition of the groats. In the meantime, GF Harvest should really correct the labeling on these rolled oats to reflect the fact that they're actually "quick" rather than "old fashioned".

I have been ordering from amazon for years and this is my first review of a product. I felt really compelled to share my experience and thoughts.

When I first received this product, I had a few questions about the outer packaging. I called someone from amazon, but she couldn't answer my questions. I then called the company of Gluten Free Harvest directly and the lady there was so helpful! I have to say the customer service was excellent! After cooking with the oats (bread, pancakes, cookies, and oatmeal), I love the quality and taste of them. What I love most is that the oats are gluten-free AND organic; I have yet to find a company that has both. Before my 41 oz bag was empty, I ordered a 25 pound box from the company directly and just received it a couple of days ago. Lastly, we have a gluten-free bakery nearby and I recently inquired about the type of oats they use in their foods. The owner said she buys her oats from a small company in Wyoming and shared the name of THIS company. We then talked a few minutes about the company and she is very happy with the fact that they are GF and organic.

I was so excited to find these on Amazon; I have been waiting for a company to start growing GF oats, that are also organic, for so long! High praises to the Gluten Free Oats company for being the first (to my knowledge) in offering these. It just seems logical that folks who have food intolerances and/or allergies, would also be very conscientious about the quality of their food. So it baffles me why so many GF foods are not also organic. So glad this company took the initiative. My Celiac daughter and I were so delighted to have oatmeal for the first time in years. The oats are very fresh tasting and cook up nicely for oatmeal. The oats cooked up nicely in pancakes too. I pre-soaked them in rice milk and the result was that the oats completely blended in and there was no discernible texture to the oats once the pancakes were cooked. I actually would have preferred a little texture, so next time I will make pancakes without pre-soaking the oats.

The only issue I had was that the bag had "popped" open during shipping. It was packed with other items and a heavy item probably squished the bag until it popped. So sad to see 1/3+ of a bag wasted, but Amazon was great and quickly sent me a new bag. I intended to order another bag or two tonight, but see that they are already out of stock! Guess I'm not the only one who has been waiting for organic, GF oats.

These are the very best gluten free outs out here. They taste better than any other outs I've had. And the people at the company are super nice, friendly and accommodating, too. I've been buying from them directly for years.

These are by far my favorite gluten free oats that I have tried. I prefer them over Bob's Red Mill and one other smaller brand that is currently on the market. I prefer them due to the fact that they are a bit sweeter and thinner cut than the others. They really are the most like Quaker oatmeal (which is what I grew up on). So if you like(d) Quaker oats but now need to have certified gluten free oatsthis is your best substitution! You will love to be able to make oatmeal cookies once again!

Teavana Earl Grey Creme Loose-Leaf Black Tea

Teavana Earl Grey Creme Loose-Leaf Black Tea, 2ozThey have changed the recipe for this tea since 2012!

Note: the photo that is shown for this product as of April 2013 is not correct -the picture is of the old recipe for the Earl Grey Creme, which contained blue cornflowers. The new recipe contains (yellow) marigold petals instead of the cornflowers, and it also includes lime peel. The new ingredients are listed as: black tea, flavoring (bergamot, vanilla, cream, lime), marigold petals.

I'm not saying that the new recipe is worse or better (although I personally don't like it as much), but it is misleading to show an incorrect photo of the item for sale.

Teavana made a mistake by changing the recipe. I don't know if it's the new flower petal substitution or something else, but the flavor is definitely different not in a good way. It's weaker and less flavorful.

The tea it's self is wonderful, it's not a true Earl Grey but I don't care, I love it!

What I don't like is how Teavana bought out Specialteas.com and then doubled the price

of my favorite tea, plain old fashioned GREED! I used to be able to buy Two pounds of Earl Grey De Le Creme for $45.00,

at Teavana it's just about $90.00.

They actually raised "all" the prices of Specialteas.com products.

I've found other suppliers that have the same quality if not better for much less.

Shame on you Teavana, you'll never get another cent of my money!

This is one of my favorite black teas. The crème takes the sharpness off the regular Earl Grey. Good flavor.

Dr. McDougall's Right Foods Organic Instant Oatmeal, Original, 10-Count Boxes (Pack of 6)

Dr. McDougall's Right Foods Organic Instant Oatmeal, Original, 10-Count BoxesI bought these for my two year old son who eats plain oatmeal every morning for breakfast and he loves it! They are fast and convenient to serve him. But I usually end up making two packets for him each morning because each packet doesn't contain much oatmeal.

Instant oatmeal is the ideal healthy fast fuel. I choose original flavor so that I can add whatever I want with it (3-in-1 coffee mix, instant noodle soup base packet, honey packet, powder milk, hot chocolate packet, any savory spices/paste/solids, last night's left over food, etc.). When eating it without additive, it tastes just as good! It doesn't have the artificial taste that Trader Joe's and Quaker Oats' instant oatmeal packet has. After cooking it in hot water, it thickens and becomes creamy. If you only add boiling water and cover the bowl to let it sit, it softens but will not become creamy.

My only gripe is that each packet doesn't have too much oatmeal in comparison to Quaker Oats and Trader Joe's. There were times I had to use 2 packets to get enough calories to get through the first 2 hours of activity (240 cal + whatever else you put in it).

This oatmeal is very good! Because there is no added sugar you can eat this for any meal of the day with different flavors. For breakfast, stir in a teaspoon of brown sugar, a handful of fruit and a scoop of protein powder. For lunch or dinner, stir in a tablespoon of peanut butter and eat with some cucumber slices.

There is a very small amount of salt in the packets, so if you are on an extremely salt restricted diet, be aware of that. Also, if you are celiac you may or may not be able to eat this. Some celiacs can have oats, others can't, you just have to figure out what you can eat.

The person who said this tastes like topsoil clearly never ate oatmeal that didn't have more sugar in it than is recommended for your daily maximum (generally less than 50g depending on sex, age, etc.). It does taste very good and is nicely creamy when you follow the directions on the packets.

Basic, organic, low sodium, plain old instant oatmeal. There's NO sugar (which I like a lot) and all I have to do to make it satisfying is put a big spoonful of cinnamon on it and I'm a happy girl. It's organic oatmeal. I highly recommend it. Enough said. Peace and all good things, L.

This is a great quality oatmeal that has a great flavor and texture. It tastes just like when I make oatmeal in a pan, but ithout the extra mess of a pan. It never is soggy or slimy, and best of all it is organic. I highly recommend this oatmeal.
