Purely elizabeth Ancient Grain Granola Cereal Original, 12-Ounce (Pack of 3)

Purely elizabeth Ancient Grain Granola Cereal Original, 12-OunceThe granola itself is very good... but, it could be much better if the company used less cinnamon (at least half the amount}.

Too much cinnamon tends to leave a bitter taste and cling to the tongue.

This is by far the best tasting granola I have tried. It offers a unique mix of ingredients that complement a healthy diet. I purchased my first bag from Whole Foods. Now that I know how good it is, I will be ordering in bulk to save money. The only negative is the portion size listed is not a realistic portion unless you are just sprinkling it on another cereal or yogurt. I eat it by itself and eat at least a double portion. I wish it had a little less agave. It would taste just as good and have fewer calories.

... And that is saying a lot. I have been making my own granola for years and was content to never buy it in a store again. My toddler had different plans, however, when she slipped this into our shopping cart at a health-food store while on vacation. My husband paid and figured I'd put it in the cart; he never suspected this was a stowaway. We were both surprised that we'd made this accidental purchase when we arrived at home I mean, an $8 bag of granola?! Later that night I had a bowl with milk as a snack and oh. my. goodness. I grabbed that bag and read through the ingredients, wondering how the heck this Elizabeth person got that perfect crunch. It's not break-your-teeth crunch here, it's subtle, almost a soft crunch. Amazing texture. Wonderful flavor. Healthy ingredients. I am completely hooked on this stuff. I won't dare try the other flavors because granola perfection is in the original. As soon as I find puffed amaranth, I'm going to try and make this at home.

ETA: the subscribe and save price is too high. You're not saving much money when this cereal sells for $6.99 at whole Foods (and is on sale frequently enough). I think ordering in bulk warrents a savings of more than a few measly cents.

I just tried this for the first time today. I've been gluten-free for three years, and while there are certainly fairly good gluten-free granolas out there this is by far the best. Not only does it taste great, it's not overly chewy like others, it doesn't contain rice flour flakes, the dried fruit in it is not like chewing on old tar pieces, and the ingredients are so much better, which more than justifies the small price increase above other g-free granolas of the same size. I could do with a little less sweetness I think (plus, I eat it with coconut milk beverage, so that adds some already), but the stuff tastes like a delicious healthy dessert to me. I already don't like much sugar to begin with, so I imagine most people won't feel as if it's overly sweet. It's also made with coconut oil awesome, and coconut sugar awesome. I was surprised by how much I liked this stuff. Thanks, Purely Elizabeth, for the terrific food. I look forward to trying more from you, and I'll definitely recommend you to readers of my food and health blog.

This is the most delicious granola I have ever eaten. It is sweet, salty, crunchy, oaty, everything I want my granola to be. I am aware that it is very healthy as well, but I am hooked on the taste.

Malt-O-Meal® Cinnamon Toasters® Case Pack 96 - 677520

Malt-O-MealĀ® Cinnamon ToastersĀ® Case Pack 96 - 677520I actually liked them, my college uses this brand, because it comes in bulk, so for four years I had them off and on for breakfast in the dinning hall. They taste just like the brand name and they are much cheaper. Don't leave the bag open though because they go stale fast, and another downside, just like the brand name they get soggy quickly so eat fast.

Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Corn Grits, Polenta, 24 Ounce Packages (Pack of 4)

Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Corn Grits, Polenta, 24 Ounce PackagesAs a native Southerner, I've eaten grits all my life but I'd never had yellow, coarsely ground corn grits before I tried Bob's. From the moment my family tried these grits about two or three years ago, we've eaten no other grits. We cook these grits every weekend, usually Saturday and Sunday mornings. Oh, we've tried a few good regional products, but they're just not as good as Bob's (for instance, Lakeside yellow grits are good, but because they're more finely ground, Lakeside is a bit too creamy, tasting almost like a corn porridge). I prefer the more coarse grind of Bob's yellow grits, and the flavor is exceptional. The corn flavor in Bob's comes through, but not in an overpowering way not to sound like a geek foodie, but Bob's yellow grits have a fantastic taste and mouthfeel. It's hard to explain, but I recommend you try them. If you're not sure you want to bite off a bulk multi-bag purchase via Amazon, then check your local grocery store (Publix in the Southeast carries Bob's, as do many organic/gourmet grocers). Regarding price: Bob's Red Mill products aren't cheap, but the company fills a very unique niche (Gluten-free products, unusual flours, etc.) and I'm willing to pay the price to keep the company from disappearing. Plus, every product from Bob's Red Mill that I've ever tried has been superior, including these grits.

Oh, and NEVER follow the cooking directions on a bag or box of grits that's the primary reason non-Southerners think grits are nasty, because they make grits without the necessary amounts of butter, salt and milk or cream. Also, these are not quick cook grits, so it will take about 15-20 minutes from the time the water boils to achieve smooth, cooked grits. To feed four people (assuming you also have pancakes and a meat for breakfast), use three cups water brought to a boil, then gently shake about 2/3 cup of grits into the water. Once the water/grits combo comes to a boil, immediately lower the heat to simmer and stir frequently. [A note about lumps: if you don't stir often enough, you get lumps; if you dump the grits in, rather than shaking them in slowly, you get lumps.] Add two or three tablespoons of salted butter, then an unholy amount of salt. I'm afraid to measure how much salt we actually use (we salt to taste as we cook), but I would guess we use two or more teaspoons of salt. To avoid oversalting, start with one teaspoon of salt, taste when you're almost done, then add additional milk and salt to taste. Depending on how thick you like your grits, add additional water (we prefer to use 1% milk) to thin them out a bit. You can also add chopped bacon or country ham to your final product for flavor.

A word about polenta: Any Southerner can tell you that grits left in a pot to cool become polenta... so go ahead, and impress your Yankee and West Coast friends by "grilling up" leftover slices of your breakfast for dinner. Remember, the Americas introduced corn to Europe (including Italy), so grits came first.

Once you've made this you'll never eat instant white grits again. These grits have a rich corn flavor and need little enhancement-just a little salt and butter. I used these to make a South Carolina shrimp with grits that was the best I've ever made. They are also identical to the Italian polenta. Don't buy those silly cylinders of precooked polenta or boxed instant polenta. This product is easy to make on the stove top and ridiculously easy to make in the microwave: just bring the water to boil in a large glass container ( I like my 16 cup measuring cup), stir in the grits while stirring, along with salt to taste, and microwave until it's thick and creamy, stirring every couple of minutes. Eat it soft or cool it and cut to make grilled or fried polenta. Amazon is offering a good price also.

I've learned to trust that with Bob's Red Mill I will get very good quality every time. This makes really flavorful and nicely textured polenta. I also use it to replace part of regular grind cornmeal when making cornbread since the grind is coarser and improves the texture of the cornbread.

I purchased these depending on the stated CERTIFIED ORGANIC SEAL. This item however is NOT the ORGANIC Grits which means they could be made form GMO corn. No where on the package does it say ORGANIC and in research I found that Bobs does have an Organic Grit, but it is NOT this one. (even though amazon has posted the Certfied ORGANIC SEAL!!) BUT WOW * I contacted Amazon "Help" regarding this issue and was immediately issued a refund for 'product not as described'. Amazon has been my favorite online retailer for several years and I am subscibed for auto ship on over 16 items. Now I can add that they indeed have a great customer service policy.

I had been using "coarse" ground supermarket corn meal to make my grilled polenta for years. It never had the same texture that I grew to love in my years in Northern Italy. The taste was right, but the texture was too smooth. And then I read some information on the interwebs about Bob's Red Mill corn grits. I don't know where I read the snippet about a true course grind versus a market course grind. But I now know that there is a difference. The market course grind available in the US is not adequately course enough for a true Italian polenta; it's too small and makes a mush/baby food consistency. With Bob's Red Mill grind, the difference is palatable. With the larger grind, I get a more toothy, substantial mouth feel in my grilled polenta. I feel like I have been transported back to Piancavallo, Italy in the dead of Winter, eating grilled wild pig and vennison with a side of the most luxurious polenta. Bob makes the difference between good polenta and sublime polenta. This grind is in keeping with the northern Italian polenta tradition. It is worth your time to supply your pantry with a 4 pack.

J&D's Original Bacon Salt 16-Ounce Bottle

J&D's Original Bacon Salt 16-Ounce BottleThis bacon-flavored salt can be used on pretty much anything to give it a little extra (non-fat, probably non-pork) flavor. I've even used it to season other meats (hamburgers, chicken), which is probably a little strange and just one of the things that gives Americans a bad name in the rest of the world :)

Good stuff, albeit a tad pricey...but then again, a shaker of this size will probably last the average user a year or two (and if it doesn't, you've got bigger problems than reading reviews of what flavor of salt to buy on Amazon).

I've been using this for about 8 months now, have used it for gifts for holidays. Spread the word! Try 1 tsp in 8 oz of mayo and you've got Baconnaise...great for dips and sandwiches. Add a little milk or buttermilk to that and you've got a great salad dressing. Use it on and in almost everything to give a new layer of complexity to your dishes. Use a little and it adds a new layer of depth and flavor, add a lot for the distinct bacon flavor.

You might as well get the big jug, as it is very reasonable for what you'll get. There's enough in the jug for you to share your Baconsalt with friends, without cutting your supply short. Believe me, your friends will be scratching at the door for more.

This stuff just might be the best new product of 2008....and 2009! The boys that invented this stuff are getting rich...the stuff is VERY popular. With good reason.

Let the sunshine in! You'll love this. Plus, IT'S KOSHER so your jewish friends can get in on the fun!

Okay, let's get this out of the way There is no bacon in this product. In fact, there are no pork or any other kind of animal parts in this product. It's kosher and even vegetarian-friendly.

So for everyone complaining that it doesn't "taste identical to bacon," get over it.

This offers a BACONY taste with zero guilt to easily add bacon-goodness to any dish you can imagine.

Some things I've found that NEED bacon salt:

Chicken salad

Potato salad

Salad

Veggie dip

Veggies (radishes dipped in bacon salt = WIN)

Casseroles

And probably tons of other stuff I'm not thinking about. This stuff is so versatile and delicious it's absurd.

This Bacon Salt tastes more like the paprika that's in it than it does like bacon. I guess I was expecting something like ground up Bac O's, with a real bacon flavor even though it's vegetarian. The taste isn't bad, it's salty, but you have to use a really lot of it on anything to have the bacon flavor come through. And when you use too much, it's just too salty.

I wanted something I could put on popcorn or on spinach salad or vegetables. This didn't taste great on any of them. I have a smoked paprika seasoning by another company that tastes more like bacon than this does.

I think they need to go back to the drawing board on this one. The concept is good, but the end result is not. I'm going to cancel my order for the jalapeno version based on this.

Update 8/6/12 I just realized that I still have about 3/4 of this bacon salt in my cupboard. I guess that's a good indicator of how much I liked it.

Miracle Noodle Pasta

Miracle Noodle Shirataki Fettuccini, 7 OunceLike other reviewers I heard about the miracle noodles through Dr. Oz (Second hand as we don't have TV in our household) and decided to give them a shot.

I got the multipack of the 7oz bags of the Fettucini style noodles. I prepared a test pack for my wife and I of the noodles exactly as described on the bag. (No microwaving them for me.)

Opening:

First, I will say the noodles didn't have a pleasant aroma upon opening the pouch, but neither was really off putting. It wasn't especially strong or extremely fishy. The best I can do to describe the odor was close to that of a can of regular chunk tuna. But unlike opening that can of tuna and getting packing water on your hands the odor did all but disappear with the rinse, blanch, and a final rinse before drying on towels.

Trying a single dried noodle was like eating the number zero if you can imagine it. It just didn't even register other than something had been in the mouth, chewed, and swallowed. There was minimal remaining odor from the fermenting and I had to really try to pick it up.

Cooking:

While the noodles dried I heated a pan on medium heat with a half tsp of butter and added two or three cloves of minced garlic and cooked it until it was just browning and then tossed in the noodles. I followed this shortly with 1 1/2 Tbsp. or so of a teriyaki sauce. My wife is Korean so there is always crushed red pepper in the house, which I added three good pinches of to the mix and cooked while mixing for another couple minutes.

I noted when the noodles hit the pan how they immediately took up the remaining butter and also a good portion of the teriyaki sauce when added. The color of the noodle went from white/semi transparent to more brown and reminded me of rice noodles in Phad Thai. There was no trace of the slight odor from their raw state at this point.

Taste verdict:

Both my wife and I enjoyed them and plan to add them to other dishes as a substitute for other asian noodles. They picked up the flavor of garlic, salt, and pepper just how I wanted and expected. The next time I made them I added chicken to the mix for protein and some veggies which I felt the lack of made for a tasty but not entirely satisfying dish. (Though I did want to try them without the noodles competing with any other primary ingredients.) The next time I have left over kimchi jigae from a dinner out it will be getting a pack added to it rather than rice for my lunch.

As a snack food or small meal I think they are good and even with my preparation here they are better across the whole nutrition label than going for a package of the Nongshim Kimchi Ramyun my wife likes sometimes. (We usually add fresh kimchi, egg, and whatever else to bulk it up a bit though. I can easily imagine doing the same with the Shirataki noodles.)

Texture:

Ever had the Korean dish jabchae? The noodles give less resistance to biting than those cellophane noodles and so don't need the extra cutting with scissors before eating. Importantly it is not at all like wheat pasta. They also squeak a bit when you bite through which was unexpected but not unpleasant.

Would I recommend them:

Yes, for certain dishes. I took two packages to my parents to try since my Mom was the one who told me about them but I am waiting to hear back what she thought. I am going to order some of the other shape varieties and do a test with marinara but I am not expecting a great result. The texture of the noodle is substantially different from wheat pastas and this leads me to think it won't work well, but hey I could be wrong.

I heard about Miracle Noodles on Dr. Oz recently and couldn't resist trying them out, because they were touted as a delicious low carb alternative to pasta. Yes, I'd read the reviews and heard a lot of horror stories about how weird they tasted and smelled, but in spite of the negative reviews, I still got a pack of these because I'm a fan of all things Asian and figured that the poor reviews were from people not used to exotic food.

Well, I tried them and can now render my verdict. You know that saying, "The truth between two extremes lies somewhere in the middle?" Nowhere is this truer than when it comes to people's reactions to these noodles. They are neither what the haters make them out to be nor at all what the ravers claim that they are.

Let's talk about the negative reviews first. Contrary to what so many people are saying, Miracle Noodles do not have a pungent fishy odor or the texture of squid, calamari, or rubber bands. When I first opened the bag I had to really sniff for a "fishy" smell, since it was barely discernible. However, I did smell something else, a mild aroma not unlike that of sweetened soy milk. Not to worry, as these smells easily disappeared when rinsing and boiling the noodles.

As for the texture? Not at all "rubbery", but very... gelatinous. At first I thought it was similar to those chewy fruity bits you often find in Asian puddings and drinks. But after chomping on the noodles for awhile, the texture became unmistakeable-it was like cartilage. And no, this is not an exaggeration. The noodles had the exact semi-gelatinous, semi-crunchy consistency of cartilage. Did the texture make these noodles inedible or the worst thing ever? Not at all. Just very... jarring.

What about the rave reviews claiming that this product is a perfect substitute for fettucine or other types of pasta? No way, Jose. Because their texture has a "fleshy" quality to it, Miracle Noodles are more suitable as a vegetarian substitute for meat, fish, and poultry dishes, especially since they absorb flavors so well. (When I poured oyster sauce on mine, they really did taste like a seafood-like dish.) But as a replacement for pasta? Good Lord, no. Not in a million years. I can see someone hankering for these if they want to have something in lieu of meat, but there's no way someone would be craving these in lieu of pasta. There are no similarities whatsoever between the two.

So basically, don't believe the hype about this product, because it's definitely been mismarketed to the wrong eaters. Miracle Noodles do have some potential as a staple in the diet of someone either foregoing meat altogether or trying to cut down on it. But as a substitute for pasta or carbs? Not a chance.

Buy Miracle Noodle Pasta Now

I have been a customer of Miracle Noodle for several months. I have tried a variety of shapes of Miracle Noodles, including the fettuccini. All of the Miracle Noodles are the same product, in different shapes. I followed the instructions on the website, and did a little experimenting on my own. My family now consumes at least one package of Miracle Noodles each day. We started out with basic stir fries, but now, I try them in a wide variety of recipes, from soups to vegetable dishes to desserts. The fettuccini works very well with sauces and soups, and once mixed with the other ingredients, affords a taste and feel very similar to flat noodle pasta. I try to incorporate the noodles into everything I cook, because it provides filling, calorie-free fiber. During the day, when hunger strikes, I usually crave something sweet. The Miracle Noodles can be used to create sweet dishes that conquer the craving, filling me up without extra calories. I love this product!

I got these noodles delivered about a week ago (pack of 6). I ate the last one today, so basically I've been replacing one meal a day with these.

I really like them!

THE SMELL: Ok, these DO smell awful after you take them out of the package. I hate fish, so I was skeptical. But after rinsing for a full 2 minutes and patting dry with several paper towels, the smell was almost gone. The finished product was not at all fishy (see recipe at end of my review!).

The TEXTURE: They DO feel kind of gelatinous. Again, this goes away after cooking, and the texture is much more like a thin rice noodle.

I literally just finished eating my daily noodle bowlfilling and delicious! Here's the recipe I've been using!

Here's what I did:

Rinsed the miracle noodles for 2+ minutes, and patted dry on paper towels. Cut with large kitchen knife.

Sauteed half of an onion in pam no fat cooking spray.

Dumped the noodles in with the onions and let cook over low-medium heat for a few minutes.

Put in half a teaspoon of peanut butter (really, a very small amount), let it melt over the noodles.

Put in about 2 T of ginger soy sauce.

Put in about 1 Tablespoon of hot sauce.

Chopped up about 8 leaves of fresh basil and threw them on top.

Stir fried for about 2 minutes.

And then I ate it! It was really really goodtasted like drunken thai noodles. AND, I estimate the calorie content at about 100 calories. I also feel like a few pieces of chicken breast would have gone with it really well, to add protein.

Highly recommended!

Well, I was worried after reading the reviews, but ended up pleasantly surprised with these "noodles." If you follow the instructions, which are very clear, they taste like asian celophane noodles.

Here is how these need to be prepared: first, you open the package and place the contents in a strainer. Now, at first, the smell of a preservative like substance is present, but that goes away quickly once you run the noodles under cold water for about 30 seconds. Rinse them well. Then you drop them in boiling water for about a minute before putting them on paper towels to dry. Now they are ready to cook with.

You must follow these directions, which are clearly printed on the package. Once you do, the consistency is not rubbery or like cartlidge as noted in other reviews. The noodles become much likecooked ramen noodles.

The one surprise to me was that these are packaged in a clear bag with a fluid. It was weird, but the fact that I can have these without fat, carbs or even calories is a huge bonus.

Steaz, Organic Sparkling Green Tea Raspberry, 6/4/12 Oz

Steaz, Organic Sparkling Green Tea Raspberry, 6/4/12 OzI love these Steaz raspberry sparkling green teas in the bottle, too.. however I found out Steaz is discontinuing them.. my store ran out of them and I was forever asking them why they are out of them, no explanations from them... so I contacted Steaz and they told me they are being discontinued, even the cans.. I stocked up wherever I could find online, but beware, I have had two shippers send me the WRONG thing!! Zero calories, which I hate, and some things in cans , which I hate too..its a shame when you really love something they discontinue it...this product was very good, dont understand why they are not gonna make it anymore? If I had known earlier , I wouldve stocked up more...

I love, love, love this flavor of the sparkling green tea by Steaz! I live in Boulder, CO. and the Whole Foods store in my town used to carry ALL the sparkling green tea flavors by Steaz and suddenly they do not. I am stunned and very disappointed. I need to find another source for my desire. I feel healthy and happy when I drink this tea. I like the canned green teas also, but not as much as the sparkling. I know they're a little bit pricier but I like the tea in the bottle. I like the sparkling part of the green tea. It's different! It's delicious! so let me know when you have it available. Thanks
