Arrowhead Mills Organic Maple Buckwheat Flakes -- 10 oz

Arrowhead Mills Organic Maple Buckwheat Flakes -- 10 ozI'm really glad I got a single box of these flakes at the health food store before buying a multi-pack online because I can't repurchase. In fact I shouldn't have purchased it at all after reading the box label at the store, but wanted to check the product out tastewise.

Buckwheat's not a grain, but a seed, and straight buckwheat is relatively low in carbohydrates, which is why it's great for diabetics or people who eat low carb. Unfortunately as a pseudo-grain it lacks binding properties which is why manufacturers tend to add a secondary grain product to help whatever it is hold together. A true buckwheat udon noodle would be lovely, for example, but too often there is more wheat flour than buckwheat and the final product gets carb-heavy.

Unfortunately, the case is similar here. Though this cereal is very tasty, buckwheat is coupled with rice flour (second ingredient) and sugar cane juice (third) and maple syrup (fifth). By the time they're done making this, it's 35 carbs in a cup (and less than a gram of fiber). That's like drinking a non-diet cola.

This could be fixed by the manufacturer lowering the rice content, and eliminating the sugar and maple, allowing us to choose our own sweetener, but I understand the world doesn't revolve around people restricting carb intake. Just wishful thinking.

But if you're a gluten intolerant person and have no blood sugar issues... this is your cereal... and I'm jealous.

Arrowhead Mills products are outstanding, and their buckwheat flour is one of our kids all time favorites especially in buckwheat pancakes where we do little more than add water, a little vanilla, water, and stir... so we figured 'what could be better than our favorite buckwheat pressed into flakes'? Well... almost.

These flakes have a great texture and are very crispy, and they do not lose their crispiness quickly when in the bowl with milk. There is also a hint of maple glaze about them that might add to keeping them from getting soggy.

They are really great with ripe, sweet peaches cut up and added to them, and they are excellent with strawberries and raspberries. However, by when served alone, with no fruit to sweeten the offering, they just do not get an A+ grade from us. Again, the texture and crispness is excellent, but the taste just falls flat -they do not scream "Buckwheat" at all... instead, they are kinda like a better frosted flakes product without the added sugar.

In our humble opinion, buy these instead of buying store bought frosted flakes but make sure that you have a nice, sweet, natural accompaniment to go with them. If you don't expect the earthy buckwheat flavor to really show itself, then you will not be disappointed. Glad we tried them and would do it again if another free shipping deal comes along.

Kellogg's Frosted Flakes Cereal

Kellogg's Frosted Flakes, 15 OunceThe first thing that comes to mind when I think of cereal is Frosted Flakes. Had to get this the first thing, when I've realized I had to live on campus. I was worried that it might be stale, but it's crispy as ever. No worries about its freshness, although it's from online market.

Good ol Kellogg's Frosted Flakes. Four large boxes. This is a supply that will last for a few months if we both consume them.

I buy a lot from Amazon, but have never purchased grocery items from them. I thought I would take a chance on a less that 12 dollar purchase for four boxes of one of our favorite cereals and it paid off. I was a bit concerned that the product inside the box might be reduced to crumbs due to the shipping, but was quite happy to find out it is all in good shape. The expiration date is July 2012, plenty of time for us to use the product. I'll be going back for more and will consider other products, as well. By the way, the cereal is almost $2.00 cheaper than I pay for it at the grocery store. And, the size of the box is the big family size! Buy it!

Half way through box 3, I got so sick of it. These boxes are huge! One of the boxes came slightly damaged, but otherwise it was as expected.

Health Valley Cobbler Cereal Bars, Blueberry, 6 ct, 7.9 oz

Health Valley Cobbler Cereal Bars, Blueberry, 6 ct, 7.9 ozHealthy and delicious... you couldn't ask for a better treat!

Highly recommend for all those carefully watching what they eat.

That Hain Celestial company that is manufacturing Health Valley and other brands has gone crazy of late, balancing purity with excess calories and lack of nutritional value. If you know anything at all about nutrition, and you review Hains other products, you will see the consistency. Hains canned products in fact all come in cans that develop metal whiskers that can break off into the sauce. I think Hains should be banned, and all its subsidiary products along with it, like Health Valley, for customer fraud and endangerment.

Health Warrior Chia Bars, Acai Berry, 13.2 Ounce

Health Warrior Chia Bars, Acai Berry, 13.2 OunceI don't think I've ever seen so much health packed into one small, ready-to-go and easy-to-carry-around packet. (I have a couple in my glove compartment, and I've been keeping one in my briefcase too.) And I didn't see anything particularly unhealthy added (like salt, extra added sugar, unpronounceable chemicals, etc.*) I'm not an expert on the topic, but I wouldn't exactly call this an "energy bar" per se (like for "instant energy" with tons of sugar, caffeine, electrolytes, carbs, whatever). Rather I'd just call it a simple snack, something to hold you over, fill in the spaces between meals, that kind of thing. Plus, give you some healthy chia and acai!

Personally, I've had the bad habit of going all day with just one meal later in the day. I didn't realize it at the time but this put my body into a starvation mode and actually made me put on fat and gain weight, even though I was eating very little. I've been told by health and medical professionals -and have read -that it's best to have about five or six small meals or snacks throughout the day. So my problem has been finding GOOD, healthy snacks ... as opposed to junky snacks like Cheetos and potato chips, that kind of thing. Yes, these are a bit on the expensive side, but I'm thinking that one or two a day would be perfect.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it. Also, I'm going to order another box right now. :)

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, d'uh ... they taste good too!

*Okay, I lied. There's apparently a tiny pinch of sea salt in there at the tail end of the ingredient list. The total sodium listed is 45 mg. I'm guessing it's part of what's needed to hold everything all together, I dunno.

Like the new flavor. Great job, love the health benefits I receive from chia seeds helps power me thru long runs. As always delivery was prompt.

My family is a big fan of the Health Warrior Chia bars. This particular flavor is my all time favorite, and I have tried all 3 flavors (chocolate peanut butter, and coconut). The berry flavor is tangy and sweet and its very satisfying as a snack. Highly recommend!

The only thing I would change about these bars is make them twice as big, because I always eat two at a time anyway. The taste is amazing, and I am planning to try the coconut flavor in the future since I love coconut.

When you open the package they look like a thousand little chia seeds mixed with purplish fruit jam and pressed into a small rectangle. They are soft and chewy and you can feel the seeds crunch in your teeth.

I would recommend this as a healthy option for a quick snack. Chia seeds have many positive health benefits including being high in protein, fiber, and Omega 3s. Sometimes they do get stuck in your teeth though.

Just enough to eat. Low sugar content! Extremely tasty. I'm not a fan of power bars too much sugar and sugar alcohols. This is tasty beneficial energy. Really so glad to have tried these. I like the Coconut ones too. Peanut butter runs third. But I like all three flavors. This one has the most sugar at 5g; the coconut and peanut butter come in at 4g if that is a concern of yours.

This product is perfect for making vegan gram crackers for the purpose of making either crackers alone or the gram cracker pie crust. I was worried about adding bran to my crackers will make them fall apart since the bran cuts the gluten making it less sticky, but it turned to be DELICIOUS and GREAT. Wheat bran also is a perfect product for adding more fiber to my diet.

It's a big bag of bran! It was in good shape, and made good bran muffins. The bag contains more bran that I can use in a year though.

Good source of natural fiber. Eating 2 tbs every morning with natural yurgut, quite helpful for those who suffer from constant constipation. Nice product!
