Peace Cereal Hearty Low Fat Clusters and Flakes Cereal Raisin Bran -- 10.5 oz

Peace Cereal Hearty Low Fat Clusters and Flakes Cereal Raisin Bran -- 10.5 ozThis cereal is made with the following ingredients, per the listing on the box: "Whole wheat flour, raisins (raisins, vegetable glycerin, vegetable oil [canola and/or sunflower oil]), wheat bran, milled cane sugar, barley malt syrup, whole rolled oats, vegetable oil (canola and/or safflower and/or sunflower oil), rice flour, oat fiber, salt, honey, annatto (for color), turmeric (for color), mixed tocopherols (natural vitamin E to maintain freshness), cardamom seed, fennel seed, fenugreek seed, nutmeg. Contains wheat. Produced in a facility that processes tree nuts, wheat and soy."

Each one-cup serving is 190 calories, about 80 calories more than Kellogg's Raisin Bran (KRB). It has more fat than KRB, but also more fiber and more protein. This bran cereal contains 2 g fat (18 calories), 44 g of carbohydrates (176 calories) of which 8 g is fiber. The fiber is equivalent to 32 calories, which are not digestible by the body and can effectively be subtracted from the 176 calories for carbs, bringing it down to 144 calories. It has 6 g protein (32 calories). That comes to a total calorie count of 194, which is very close to the 190 calories listed. The minimal difference is because carbs and protein are slightly less than 4 calories per gram, and fat is slightly less than 9 calories per gram.

This cereal is described by the manufacturer as "whole grain oat clusters," and given that the recipe for making them is different than Kellogg's Raisin Bran, it is not surprising that they don't taste the same as that product. However, in their own right they taste quite good.

This product is not sugar-free, but it uses natural sweeteners which are slightly less unhealthy than the white sugar, brown sugar or high fructose corn syrup that KRB uses. These natural sweeteners consist of milled cane sugar, barley malt syrup, and honey. The milled cane sugar and barley malt syrup are vegan, by the way, but honey is not considered to be vegan, so it is too bad the manufacturer added it to this cereal, or they could have had another selling point. In terms of health, though, the truth is, all sweeteners which are either fructose or sucrose, which each of the sweeteners mentioned above are, raise blood glucose levels. The advantage for controlling blood-glucose spikes that this cereal offers over and beyond what KRB provides is more fiber, more protein and a little bit more fat, all of which act like anchors on blood glucose levels, lessening spikes of blood glucose due to the relatively large percentage of carbs that any breakfast cereal contains, no matter who makes it.

A true advantage of this cereal over KRB is that it contains no artificial coloring, flavoring or preservatives. (Note that the KRB ingredient list does not admit to any coloring agents or preservatives, which I find very odd and very likely a dishonest omission--it's simply not possible that it has no preservatives in it of any kind to maintain freshness. Here are all the ingredients listed on the KRB box and on the Kellogg's website: "Whole grain wheat, raisins, wheat bran, sugar, brown sugar syrup, contains 2% or less of salt, malt flavor.")

What this cereal has used to color, flavor and preserve its cereal are an impressive list of very healthy substances. Mixed tocopherols maintain freshness. This is the form of vitamin E that is best absorbed in the body. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that fights cancer and heart disease. Annatto and turmeric are used to color the cereal. Annatto is rich in antioxidants that function similarly to vitamin E, and turmeric is particularly well known for its anti-inflammatory properties. This cereal also contains cardamom seed, fennel seed, and fenugreek seed, all of which are strong aids to digestion. Studies on the action of fenugreek have also found it is helpful in controlling cholesterol and blood-sugar levels. Nutmeg has antibacterial action, in particular combating the bacteria that cause tooth decay. In addition, nutmeg contains compounds protective of the heart and that help prevent Alzheimer's. It also tastes great and, much like cinnamon, when used in baked goods or cereals, can cause them to taste sweeter so that less sugar is needed.

There is no mention of this product being organic, though the company makes this sales pitch: "By effectively combining the finest all natural ingredients, sustainable practices and regular giving to worthy causes, Peace Cereal truly delivers Peace of Mind in Every Bite!"

All in all, as high-carb cereals go, this one is a good bet. It is not safe for people with wheat or soy allergies, though, and diabetics would be better off eating a cereal with no sweetener of any kind and using a natural sweetener with no calories that does not raise the blood sugar like stevia powder.

Lydia's Organics Berry Good Cereal Organic -- 16 oz

Lydia's Organics Berry Good Cereal Organic -- 16 ozThe product is very pricey but well worth it in both flavor quality. There were ample amounts of berry's and of course plenty of grains. My only complaint with all of Lydia's cereals is the quality of the plastic package. Do not order with a heavy object in the same package.

KIND PLUS Gluten Free Bars (Pack of 12)

KIND PLUS, Pomegranate Blueberry Pistachio + Antioxidants, Gluten Free BarsThis bar has cranberries, almonds, and macadamia nuts (NOT bits and pieces!) as their main ingredients, in a soft honey-like glaze to keep it all together. I refrigerate them in the summer or they kind of "wilt". The ingredients are fresh, and the nuts are crunchy. What I really appreciate about these bars is that it really takes time to eat and enjoy them. Those nuts are meant to be chewed and not inhaled, unlike a lot of snacks that disappear as soon as you get the wrapper off. I can't eat one in front of my favorite dog, as this is one snack I am too fond of to share with her... much to her dismay. I think they are worth the cost, and I know they cost way more if you find them in a local grocery store.

I was looking forward to receiving this order. Almonds, macadamias, and walnuts! Sounded delicious.

Then I tried one, and was puzzled. Yes, I could taste some almond, but WOW, the main flavor was PEANUTS. The ingredients list peanuts as the largest amount of nuts. This should be called the Peanut, Almond Bar. If one likes to have the main flavor of a nut bar as peanuts, you will enjoy this.

The quality of KIND products I appreciate, as well as the low GI, the natural properties, and having a healthier choice. But honesty in advertising and product would be appreciated.

I was disappointed with the deception, and the unexpectedly strong flavor of peanuts, as I purchased it for the nuts I like best, which were supposed to be the main source of nut protein.

Let's get honest KIND!

These were a staple for my gluten-free teenager until a few months ago when she started complaining that they tasted different, not in a good way. We found out that the company has moved to a new factory/producer and that the formula has changed in some ways. The flavor is not as fresh and tastes more like processed food. We are really disappointed and are hoping that the company can somehow find its way back to making really great bars.

These bars are delicious. Not heavy on the stomach with just enough sweetness to satisfy.

I ordered the Dark Chocolate Cherry Cashew bars and I was pleasantly surprised how good they tasted. My husband likes them and so does my daughter. The only thing is I wished they had a little less sugar. The nutritional facts say they have 14g of sugar. Now 14 grams of sugar is not bad if you are comparing it to a candy bar but for a nutritional bar I would ideally like 10g of sugar or less.

TeeChia Gluten Free Super Seeds Cereal, Blueberry Date, 2.2 Pound

TeeChia Gluten Free Super Seeds Cereal, Blueberry Date, 2.2 PoundI used to always eat Steelcut oatmeal but I am so bored of it, and it doesn't have much in the way of protein. I discovered this product and love it because it has way more protein from chia, flax, etc. and is so versatile! I can't stand flavored hot cereals, they always put too much sugar in it. I love that this is lightly sweet and naturally sweetened so I can dress it up.

I love eating it 2 different ways:

1. I just put a few tablespoons into a smoothie that I sometimes blend in the morning. Its good for extra fiber and the little bits of dried fruit and yummy.

2. I eat it like I used to eat my oatmeal I add hot water, then top it with plain greek yogurt, add chopped bananas for sweetness and nuts.

I wouldn't eat it alone, to me it is a healthy base that you can customize however you prefer.

Taylors English Breakfast (50 Tea Bags)

Taylors English BreakfastIf you are tired of wimpy tea you get at most markets and like a bold hearty cuppa in the morning, these teas are great. The Scottish tea seems to have a bit more of a malty character but not obtrusively so -the English Breakfast is a clear strong note. Let it steep for 5 minutes. Who needs coffee?

I purchased the decaf english breakfast, and it tasted just as good as the caffeineted ones. This will not dissapoint!

I do not drink coffee. But, I love tea. I drink it the British way, with a little milk, and this tea is flavorful enough to stand up to adding milk. I love THIS tea! English, Scottish and Irish and even decaf for after 6:00 PM. I used to buy this at a tea shop, but Amazon Prime has made buying by the 6 pack more reasonable price wise and easy.

If you like bold, flavorful black tea, this is the one for you.

This tea has a rich full flavor, doesn't get too dark and bitter and is very good either black or sweet, hot or over ice. One bag makes about four cups in a good teapot. Good value.

Gnu Foods Cinnamon Raisin, 1.4-Ounce (Pack of 16)

Gnu Foods Cinnamon Raisin, 1.4-OunceThis is a great tasting way to get some quick morning fiber. Keep handy for those mid-day hunger signs. thanks.

These bars were a very nice find!

The taste and the texture are great. I've tried the cinnamon raisin and the banana walnut flavors and they both attended my expectations. As for the calories and other nutrition data, I believe there is a nice balance. It's not a diet or light bar, but the amount of sugar (or even fat) is nothing to worry about, for those who do not have any specific desease related to sugar metabolism.

Choice Organic Whole Leaf Organics English Breakfast Tea Pyramids, 15-Count, 1.05-Ounce Boxes (Pack

Choice Organic Whole Leaf Organics English Breakfast Tea Pyramids, 15-Count, 1.05-Ounce BoxesI ordered two, taking one set of 3 boxes home and leaving the other set at work. This tea is extremely popular in both places. Everyone seems to love the taste, and all have commented on the significant flavor improvement of this whole-leaf tea vs. other small "powder-based" teabags. Great stuff, very yummy indeed.

The individually wrapped packages also look very nice on a tray when arrayed with others from which your guests may select. I've yet to detect any additional tea power generated by the pyramid-shaped bags and I would generously call the shape on the box a "dramatization," but the bags do take on the general attitude of a pyramid-shaped balloon in the cup. They also make an excellent cup of tea and fit nicely into the compost bin when I'm done with them.

Highly recommended, will definitely buy again.

This was a pretty good tea but not as robust as I like (realizing that that is a personal choice). Looking for an organic alternative o PG Tips but nothing, so far, is as good.

Good tea, but huge waste of paper. The amount of tea in each individual sachet is small and the paper envelope is large.

When I want a clean, crisp, fullbodied tea this is the one.No bitter after taste. Only complaint is that, although I like the pyramid tea bag shape maybe 1 bag in a box is defective and tea comes out while brewing. Otherwise-it's the best tasting English Breakfast I've tried.

The tea taste fine, but I ordered this because I wanted a Pyramid shaped tea bag for presentation. Yes they cut the bag in a triangle shape, but it's nothing like the picture or the fancy Pyramid teas you might me thinking. It ends up looking like a normal old tea bag.
