FLAHAVAN'S Irish Porridge Oats, 17.5-Ounce Bags (Pack of 6)

FLAHAVAN'S Irish Porridge Oats, 17.5-Ounce BagsAs a life-long American, these were actually something I just randomly tried from a local specialty store. Now I am addicted. I like them better than traditional oatmeal, the taste is more creamy and hearty. The funny thing is that the word "porridge" to me has a connotation of slop that is served as sustenance more than flavor. However, I can tell you that I love this stuff and I feel like it is actually the gourmet version of oatmeal. If you prepare it with water it is quite good, and prepared with milk it is simply amazing.

My Welsh husband recently moved to the US and did not like our oatmeal, or the steel cut version, or any 'porridge' I could find for him. "It just isn't like what I'm used to", he'd say. Then I found Flahavan's in a British shop and they were declared a success. Not wanting to drive an hour each way and pay six dollars a bag for them, I am happy to find them on Amazon for around three dollars a bag and free shipping with Prime. These are very tasty, although I'm more of a fan of the steel cut oats.

My household was out oats, so I made a search on Amazon, and decided to try a brand we've not yet tasted. Since I gravitate toward food items from the UK/Ireland (ancestral roots); and because it had such great reviews, I decided to order this.

I prepared it with 1 cup whole milk, and 1 1/2 cups water, and within a few minutes it was done! (I served mine up with a dash of cinnamon, and a sprinkling of coconut sugarafter tasting it alone).

...This is hands down the best tasting oats my family and I have ever tasted! It's not chewy or tough, and it doesn't require pre-soaking to get a smooth texture.

I don't recall having seen this brand in my local store, so when we run out, I'll be re-ordering!

I have been eating ONLY Flahavan's brand for about 4 years. I noticed by accident as well, in Wegman's, and now nothing else will do! I just went online to order directly from the Flahavan's site in Ireland since Wegman's just discontinued selling it......not enought of us true Irish porridge eaters I guess. I was excited to see Amazon sells it. It is the best/quickest method when done in the microwave. I do the 1/2 cup porridge to 1 cup 1% milk, nuking for 2:15 minutes [make sure you use a deep bowl, as directed] and it's sensational.....creamy, hearty, great flavor. I add walnuts, Splenda, and sometimes raisins or sugar-free Log Cabin if I'm in the mood. Even if you're not an oatmeal afficionado, try this.......good for you, and soooooooo yummy too.

After my lifelong mission to find porridge that could please persnickety Goldilocks, I am relieved to say Flahavan's fills the bill.

As a kid I never liked oatmeal, but porridge was so storied I kept trying, since oatmeal was supposedly it. When I was 14, I visited England, finally tried the real thing, and it was love. Unfortunately, back in the States I could never find anything comparable. So I just kept looking. One restaurant had a tasty and properly textured version, which they claimed was a proprietary porridge blend, but they didn't sell the oats, just the meal at breakfast. I've had the discussion many times: you'd expect all oats are oats, and therefore taste similar if prepared in similar fashion, but they simply don't. I tried every kind of oats I could get my hands on, from German and Scottish imports to bulk hippie/health food co-op organic. Steel-cut, rolled, slow, quick, everything! I soaked overnight and boiled stovetop; used milk, water, cream, and mixtures of them in varying amounts. In spite of wasting a lot of time and oats over the years, I didn't give up.

Like another reviewer here, I found Flahavan's at a Wegmans. A brand I hadn't seen before! Surely it would be a failure like the rest, but it's a pretty small package, why not just try? Thank goodness I bought it. I can't speak with authority for those in the UK, because as demonstrated by my not having seen Flahavan's in 20 years of US oat shopping, you must have many brands I won't encounter here. In the US, Flahavan's is the only brand I've been able to find to make porridge oats that taste like the delicious porridge I had in England. And that's just their simple, microwave in 3 minutes oats! Crazy to imagine after all the trouble I've gone to trying to stew up the perfect porridge. Wegmans is foolish for discontinuing Flahavan's, but I'm thankful they had it for me to find when I did.

For anyone out there looking for creamy (oat-creamy, even made with just water), tasty, tender, truly porridge-y oats, do yourself a favor and try Flahavan's. Even if you think you've got something decent---I used to eat McCann's sometimes, but even though other people in my family still buy it, to me it now tastes so bad in comparison I simply can't settle for it. I'm still open to trying new oats, but for me the lifelong fantasy porridge oats quest has found a firm footing in reality with Flahavan's fairytale deliciousness.

Newman's Own Organics California Raisins, 14-Count Packages (Pack of 12)

Newman's Own Organics California Raisins, 14-Count PackagesBecause the 14-count bags are sealed separately, these have lasted a long time. I am finally starting my 12th bag after probably 6 months. Very tasty, very few stems or "leathery" raisins, all pretty plump.

0.5 (half) ounce boxes perfect for little hands. There are 14 little boxes in each larger sealed plastic bag as pictured and described. 12 plastic bags full of fourteen 0.5 ounce boxes(so you are getting 168 little boxes, just to be extra clear). My 14 month old loves these and so do I! Will purchase again using subscribe and save. I think these are better than the red box brand you can get from any big box store.

Much easier to handle than the bag of raisens I get from my organic market! Easy to take on trips, too!

I really love Newman's Own organic raisins and eat them all the time. I thought that buying 14-count packages was such a great deal until they arrived and I realized just how tiny these boxes were! They are mini, mini size, around an inch big. I have to use 3 or 4 of them at a time to make a nice snack mix. The raisins themselves are 5* and are always the perfect texture and delicious. I have gone back to the 15oz. size containers, which are much more practical.

My son has autism and as such we are careful of everything he eats as some studies show that children with autism may have it due to their body's inability to deal with toxic materials (such as heavy metals or pesticides) as easily as the rest of us.

Grapes are a prime example of pesticide retaining fruit, which is why should always wash grapes with a little detergent and then rinse them thoroughly before eating.

We don't need to worry about giving my boy these raisins though, they are delicious and the tiny extra premium we pay for them is well worth it, even if your son is NT. They come in little boxes though, so once you open the big bag be sure to seal them off so the grapes won't dry up if you don't eat them fast enough.

I made GFCF banana bread with these little guys in it and it was so good! My kid even tried it and finished his half-slice! And he is such a picky eater :) (I had to toast it because he doesn't like the mushy crumbly texture of GF bread, but still).

They're also great as a snack both in terms of yummyness and convenience, after his pool therapy he likes to sit down and eat a box or two in the shade, he even works at his fine motor skills by taking them out of the little box by himself!

Gnu Foods Orange Cranberry Flavour and Fiber, Case Of 8 /5/1.6 OZ

Gnu Foods Orange Cranberry Flavour and Fiber, Case Of 8 /5/1.6 OZGnu Bars is on to something good, but they need to keep on working a little.

This one has a really great fragrance when you open the package. Very orangey.

Now on to the taste/texture. The texture is the same as all the other Gnu Bars -

very moist, very chewy, very good for you. This one is okay, but do consider this

when you make your purchase. There is NO ORANGE JUICE or orange product in this bar.

I can only guess that the overwhelming orange flavor comes from the "natural flavors"

in the ingredients list. The cranberries are good. Overall tasty, but leaves a very

odd orange aftertaste. Definitely not my favorite bar.

Ingredient list:

Gnu High Fiber Blend (whole rolled oats, organic whole wheat flour, wheat bran, organic kamut, psyllium, flax, millet),

chicory root, inulin, fruit juices, rice dextrins, raisins, apples, canola oil, plums, cranberries, rice,

natural flavors, wheat protein isolate, baking power.

Steel Cut Oats - 50 Pound Bag

Steel Cut Oats - 50 Pound BagAnd the seller has been delivering this quality product dependably for the past five years.

I appreciate the growers, the seller and Amazon for making doorstep delivery of quality food at very fair price possible.

We use STO for hot porridge or cold homemade smoothies an average of five mornings a week, year round.

Took me about 8 months to get through the first. It's great stuff, and the price represents a substantial savings over buying the small tins at Whole Foods, etc. Of course, now a certain coffee shop chain is starting to serve steel cut oats, so who knows how long before it all goes up in price... Let's hope not.

I pictured a tiny 50 lb bag... very good investment. I just boil a whole cup of it every morning. makes a filling oatmeal breakfast... it takes long time to cook though, so it's good to hydrate during cooking and eat fruit and other protein & vitamin stuff. Great for a student like I ^_^ oh and while cooking and eating listen to audiobooks and gain more knowledge, it's a great investment ^_^

I repackaged it to keep it fresh until we use it all. Hoping it works. If it does, then I'll purchase again because of the cost savings. Quality is as good as any other steel cut oats I've purchased.

Want Steel Cut Oats - 50 Pound Bag Discount?

Steel cut oats are expensive at the grocery store and we prefer them for their nutritional quality, i.e. they digest slower. They don't go bad so buying 50 pounds is not a problem. We just put them in two large covered buckets. They are good quality oats no different from the ones in the store. Since they are steel cut, they cook best if you soak them in the refrigerator overnight.

McCann's Irish Oatmeal, Instant Oatmeal, Variety Pack, 3 Flavors, 10 Packets, 12.7 oz (361 g)

McCann's Irish Oatmeal, Instant Oatmeal, Variety Pack, 3 Flavors, 10 Packets, 12.7 ozI realize that breakfast is really important, but as a busy full-time "non-traditional" undergrad, it's not always easy to fit it into my schedule. I'm always looking for something quick and nutritious, and I had tried various brands of instant oatmeal. They were OK -pleasant tasting, somewhat filling, good in a pinch.

Then I found McCann's Instant Irish Oatmeal -oh my!!!!! I've died and gone to breakfast heaven! Seriously, this is amazingly good stuff. The Apple Cinnamon is my favorite variety: full of chunks of apple, excellent cinnamon flavor, filling, really wonderful stuff. The Maple Brown Sugar is tasty, too -I usually throw in a couple of tablespoons of sultanas or currants for some added texture.

Well, I'm hooked. I can have a nice hot tasty breakfast in less time than it takes to feed the cat. Yeah, this is a little pricier than what you'll find at your local supermarket, but I think it's worth it.

Batchelors Beans 420g(14.8oz)

Batchelors Beans 420g(14.8oz)We visited Ireland last year and enjoyed the full breakfast. When we wanted to recreate it at home, I researched the ingredients and found that the baked beans are in a tomato sauce, not brown sugar like the American variety. I ordered these and they were perfect! Tasted just like the ones we had on our trip. Thanks!

Starbucks House Blend K-Cup Portion Pack for Keurig Brewers

Starbucks House Blend, K-Cup Portion Pack for Keurig K-Cup Brewers, 10-CountI just found Starbucks Kcups in Bed/Bath/Beyond (also in Target) and of course I had to grab them on the spot! I tried the House Blend and, unlike other Starbucks flavors, this is very smooth and not at all bitter or "burnt" like the Pike Place blend. This flavor didn't require nearly as much sweetening and, since it isn't overly strong, it's perfect for use any time of day. I bought a box of 16 for $11.99 ($14.99 less the typical Bed/Bath/Beyond 20% discount). I can't even begin to comprehend Amazon's pricing on this item.....or most other Kcups for that matter. These kcups will be even more readily available nationwide than Dunkin' Donuts kcups so why the ridiculous pricing, Amazon??!! Starbucks kcups (10-count) are also available in Von's (Safeway) supermarkets.

Here's the deal with K Cups: they will always taste slightly different than regular brewed coffee. The reason is with brewed coffee, you can control the strength of the brew, both with how you grind your beans and your water-to-coffee ratio. With K Cups, the only control you have is how large or small a cup you choose to brew. Larger obviously is weaker, smaller is stronger.

I have these K cups. They are better than many of the others I have tried. Again, it won't taste EXACTLY like a cup of Starbucks brewed coffee, but is pretty close. I definitely recommend this over many others.

Now, if we could just find them cheaper!

It is very strong, a little bitter, and tastes just like regular starbucks coffee so if you like that then you will like this. It is definitely not medium by regular standards. It is very bold. I had a pumpkin creamer which I thought was too strong but I made this coffee using the 9 ounce setting and it tasted great with the pumpkin creamer. I won't buy it again because nobody else cared for it at my house and it is a little too bitter for me.

Klein's Naturals Dried Blueberries, 5-Ounce Tubs (Pack of 6)

Klein's Naturals Dried Blueberries, 5-Ounce TubsI was disappointed to see that they add corn syrup to the blueberries. If you're going to use "Natural" in your name, you shouldn't add corn syrup!

The nutrition facts given for this product are wrong. It has more sugar and calories than listed on this page. 100 calories and 25 g sugar is the correct amount. Contrary to the other reviews, this product contains corn syrup.

Buy Klein's Naturals Dried Blueberries, 5-Ounce Tubs (Pack of 6) Now

Kleins was pretty much the only brand that did not add sugar fructose or other additives to their blueberries. Sugar content was low and quality and flavor were high. Now however, the latest batch of berries has come back into stock with corn syrup and tons of sugar. This is a shame. Now they're no different than any other blueberry brand.

Beware!!! This product contains Sulfur Dioxide!!! A preservative!! Not a healthy snack!!

Want Klein's Naturals Dried Blueberries, 5-Ounce Tubs (Pack of 6) Discount?

I tried these and the Klein's dried cherries as my first ever taste of this company's products. Both are excellent. These are really top quality. I use them in salads, but I am sure they would be great cooked (like for a blueberry muffin as well).

The most surprising thing is that I discovered that when I eat them together (mixed together) with dry roasted (no oil, no salt dry roasted) almonds it makes the blueberry flavor really explode!

My only complaint is that they do have the sulphur dioxide as a preservative, but most importantly NO ADDED SUGARS and corn syrup glop like you find in almost everything these days. Nearly every dried fruit gets ruined by some kind of corn syrup and Klien's thankfully doesn't do that to theirs.

I can recommend highly!

Kashi Hills Cereal, Blackberry, 9.8 Ounce

Kashi Hills Cereal, Blackberry, 9.8 OunceI really like this cereal. It most reminds me of Special K Redberries, except that it has all natural, organic ingredients. The flakes are a bit more like regular cereal, but crispier. The blackberries are very good as well. This is going to be my new favorite! I hope Amazon carries it soon, as it's hard to find in stores.

Sauce Lc Tomato Basil 26 oz (Pack of 6)

Sauce Lc Tomato Basil 26 ozI am a devout low-carber. I have tried so many products and have been disappointed with many... NOT with this product. It is amazingly good! I have a hard time keeping it in the house. My husband (a devout CARB-EATER mind you) has decided this is his favorite spaghetti sauce. He prefers it over all other store bought sauces. I make it with homemade meatballs, add mushrooms, and top with freshly grated Parmesan cheese. The best part ... There are only FOUR net carbs per generous serving! I use Miracle Noodles (bought here from Amazon) as the pasta part and make my own garlic bread using "carb krunchers" bread (FAR AND AWAY THE BEST LOW CARB BREAD!). Trust me, I've tried them all and Carb Krunchers actually tastes like real bread with the closest texture to real bread as well.

My take... You can't go wrong with this sauce (whether you eat carbs without care or are obsessed with cutting them out of your life!). Unfortunately, Amazon does not sell this, however, does!! Try it, I bet you will love it too!
