Santa Fe Sausage Seasoning

Hot Pork Sausage SeasoningWe followed the directions closely for a 10 lb. mix of 1/2 venison and 1/2 pork. (We did mix the seasoning directly into the meat, then added a bit of water.) We then let it sit overnight in the refrigerator. We fried some patties up the next morning to taste test.

The pepper seasoning came through, not excessively so, but it did linger a bit. I have been known to like things hot (although my tastes have mellowed with age) and I would rate this between mild and medium. I have tasted commercially prepared breakfast sausage that tasted hotter. It definitely makes this a great sausage for using in spaghetti and other italian dishes. By itself, the sausage is very flavorable. We plan to pack 1/2 into casings and bulk store the rest for cooking Italian dishes.

I do agree with one reviewer, it is a bit salty tasting and could be toned down a bit. But, it is within the limits for a spicy sausage and will be fine used in other Italian recipes, IMHO.

I would buy this again, but back off of the amount to mix into the meat (due to the salt) and add other Italian seasonings.

This is a great blend for Italian Sausage. It makes a mild sausage with a little kick. It does 50 lbs of sausage and I make it in 10 lb batches. I measured the level of the blend(5") and with a permanent marker made lines every inch on the container for my 10 lbs of meat. I ground up my shoulders, mixed in the spices, then reground a second time. Some of the best sausage I have ever had. Tastes like NY style sausage with the fennel in it. I would recommend to anyone who is looking to save money on sausage. I estimated I have about 1.75 a pound into it where store bought is over 3.50 a pound. It is also very healthy. I will be purchasing other blends in the future to also try.

Was excited to try the mix and found it to be just expensive salt...sure, seasoning for Italian sausage does not contain too many ingredients but product flavor was lacking and was really almost all salt.

I made 40 lb of sausage with 20 lb being venison/pork and 20 lb being venison/beef. Flavor was great and an easy product to use. Highly recommend.

so i tried the garlic one and i made a mistake.... and didn't wear a gas mask when i used it ... i LOVE garlic but wow this is over powering in powder form when i first got it i opened it up to give it a smell and almost fell over it was like i got mased eyes tearing up nose burning regardless i bought it im trying it and i mix up some sausage and if you add water like it says it gets toned down so you can work with it after stuffing it and letting it sit for 24hrs for the casing to firm up i grilled them and im not impressed its not bad like someone just dumped a bunch of garlic powder in my sausage and no other spices i feel like it needs more flavor then JUST garlic powder i mean even salt and pepper would be nice

New Orleans Gourmet Foods Southern Style Grits, 6-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 4)

New Orleans Gourmet Foods Southern Style Grits, 6-Ounce BoxesI have tried different brands of grits and find this one to be the very best. Even though they are quick cooking grits, you can cook them as long as you need to. Their flavor is also better. I would buy again. My favorite recipe is: Creamy Grits-2tbs salted butter or 2tbs unsalted butter +1/4 tsp salt. 2 cups water,1/2 c stone ground grits. 1-2 c milk, half n half or stock.Drop the butter into water, bring to boil.Stir in grits, return to boil & reduce heat. cook 10 min. or until thick, stirring to prevent sticking.Add about 1/2 cup milk or cream, simmer 10 min. As the liquid evaporates add more milk until its the consistency you want. Can cook up to an hour. Wonderful. recipe from hoppin' John's low country cooking.

These grits cook quick.

Boil water, throw in grits takes about 5-7 minutes. Perfect for making breakfast quickly.

4 bags is probably around 8 cups of dry grits. 1 cup of dried grits is a lot of grits, enough to feed 6 people easily.

The grits are amazing! AMAZING. I was dumb founded how well they tasted. Just plain they are delicious.

If you love grits, you must try this brand. And if you think you don't like grits....People who thought they did not like grits and try these and love them! Fabulous product and much better than what you can buy at the local grocer. Best Grits Ever!!!!

I did read the disclaimer, but was still a bit surprised when the package arrived. The boxes of grits were nothing like the description. The photo used in the ad is apparently a stock photo of some kind? While that was only annoying, what ruined it for me was the fact that these are quick grits. Please, don't call them Southern Style, if they are quick or instant grits. I certainly would not have purchased quick grits had that been stated somewhere in the description.

I ordered these at the end of January and did not receive quick grits as a previous reviewer did. I would have been mightly unhappy with quick grits as they don't deserve to ever even be labeled as grits...more like nasty hominy corn product. Anyhow, these are decent grits, they're ground to a good consistency and cook just fine.

Nature's Path EnviroKidz Organic Gorilla Munch Cereal -- 10 oz

Nature's Path EnviroKidz Organic Gorilla Munch Cereal -- 10 ozIt is the 11th of May, 2011. My doctor has just informed me that my Jimmies are terminally rustled.

I had no idea how to react. Would any reaction I had be legitimate? Or would it be tainted by the state of my Jimmies?

I've been living with RJS (Rustled Jimmy Syndrome) for almost a year now. I've tried more "cures" than would intimidate even a cancer patient. At first I tried wearing a three-wolf shirt. It helped with my self-esteem, but it didn't do anything about my Jimmies. I even tried buying a $2,000 HDMI cable, hoping the multidimensional X-Rays that would be exuding from my television would be enough to unrustle my Jimmies on a molecular level. That was $2,000 wasted.

I had no hope. That is, until I found Gorilla Munch. The primary ingredient in Gorilla Munch, Love(tm), provided high enough levels of necessary nutrients to unrustle even my Jimmies! After consulting my doctor, I've received the news that the rustling in my Jimmies is in regression, and I should expect to have completely unrustled Jimmies by August 2012.

I cannot thank this cereal enough for what it's done for me.

Before buying the gorilla munch my jimmies were always rustled. Now all I can say is one bowl a day keeps the rustles away. 5/5

I would really recommend this cereal for those who experience frequent rustling of their jimmies. When I feel like my jimmies are rustled or are soon going to be rustled, one bowl of Gorilla Munch amazingly unrustles them, much to my pleasure.

Everyone knows the old saying: "A box on the table keeps my jimmies stable." But is that just more of an old wives tale, or does this archaic rhyme actually hold some truth to it?

I, like many others, had a tough time making it through the day. I would drag myself out of bed at 7'oclock, and sigh as I began my daily routine. Shave, shower, put on my suit, hastily eat a bowl of Cheerios, and then hurry out the door. That's when I would begin to feel my jimmies being rustled. Sitting there, stuck in traffic, as a BMW cuts me off. I finally pull into the parking lot, and somebody has stolen my usual parking spot. My jimmies become rustled even further. I get into the office, head to the break room to get a cup of coffee, and there's nothing left in the pot. It's only 9'oclock in the morning, and already my jimmies have been extremely rustled. By that point I figure my jimmies cannot be rustled even further, when my boss comes in and yells at me for only working 12 hours yesterday. What he doesn't know is how late I stayed up working my *ss off for him, only to have my wife walk in on me making cereal at 4'oclock in the morning. She asked me, with stress in her voice, what I was doing up that late and I reluctantly replied, "because I've lost control of my jimmies..." By lunch time, where they're always out of hamburgers, my jimmies lay on their deathbeds from the constant rustling.

I didn't think there was anything I could do. I had come to accept the fact that my jimmies may be eternally rustled, a condition my physician diagnosed as Rustled Jimmie Syndrome, or RJS. I looked on the internet for answers, but it seemed like nobody knew how I could keep my jimmies unrustled. Finally, somebody contacted me with a tip: "There is no need to be upset, try the cereal Gorilla Munch. A box on the table will keep your jimmies stable."

At that point, I was willing to try anything. I rushed to Whole Foods and found a box of Gorilla Munch. Even after just looking at the box, I could begin to feel my jimmies becoming unrustled. The gorilla on the front had such a calm look to him. I got home a placed the box on my kitchen table. That gorilla on the box seemed to stare in to my soul, as if trying to hush me, and plead with me, "Shh, no tears. Only dreams now." After my first bite of the delicious cereal, I could tell my jimmies were heading back to a peaceful, unrustled state.

The next morning I went through my normal routine, but this time, I munched on breakfast with my new gorilla friend and his amazing cereal. The world seemed brighter, as if that gorilla's laid-back, calming attitude had pulled a golden blanket of deliciousness over my jimmies and tucked them into bed. Suddenly, being cut-off didn't rustle my jimmies. They were no longer rustled by having my parking spot stolen, or even there being no hamburgers left at lunch. Even after a yelling from my boss, my jimmies remained unrustled.

I cannot recommend Gorilla Munch any more highly. I'm a new person. You cannot even imagine how unrustled my jimmies are.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the rustling of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, unrustles the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the unrustler of jimmies. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to rustle and destroy My jimmies. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon rustlers.

Pineapple Jam

Pineapple JamI suppose I may be fussy, but this jam just didn't impress me. It's too sweet and seems to lack the tart 'kick' one expects from eating pineapple. I suppose I'll just have to go back to making my own.

Tony Chachere's Special Herbal Blend Spice N' Herb Seasoning - 5 oz

Tony Chachere's Special Herbal Blend Spice N' Herb Seasoning - 5 ozI picked up this seasoning about a year ago on a whim. Everytime I use this product I receive compliments on the great meal. I have used it with pork, chicken and fish. It is really fantastic on fish and plain old fashion pork chops, Oh I forgot pot roast in a crock pot is to melt in your mouth with real flavor. I just wish the store I purchased it would still carry this product. I have been looking all over for it and they always just carry the basic Creole line. I hope Tony Chachere's pushes for this seasoning to be in more supermarkets.

Wow this stuff is GREAT! I loooooove it on shrimp, just grilled shrimp with SPice n Herb, tastes better than any restaurant shrimp I've had and is healthier too! The flavor is just so great, my whole family likes it. We eat it on beef, pork, and chicken too, yum! I just love all of Tony's seasonings, especially the Creole, Lite, Spice N Herb, oh and More SPice... I guess I love them all!!

Powerbar Energy Blasts Food / Nutrition, Orange,

Powerbar Energy Blasts Food / Nutrition, Orange,I do like the energy blasts. The coca-cola flavor is by far my favorite. But here is the catch! I was racing the Xterra Mountain Championship course last year and i tried popping one in my mouth and i nearly choked. These are great for right before you start a race when you aren't winded. Once you start, they are almost impossible to chew and breathe at the same time. Great energy, but difficult to chew! Also, then the weather turns cold, they go rock hard.

The Raspberry flavored chews taste great, and I have no problems popping a few before a workout. However, each chew contains 4 grams of sugar and there is only a tiny amount of gel inside the chew. In addition, I am supposed to chew these things while running or cycling without choking. These are not easy to break down in my mouth and with a lot of motion, I can see these going down the wrong pipe or getting lodged in my throat.

I followed the instructions and took a few chews about 60 minutes prior to working out, and I didn't feel any different. In fact, I used these at work during lunch to see if it would help with the afternoon and I didn't feel any different either. I think these rely on "sugar highs" for boosts in energy.

Overall: 3/5 stars, tastes great like gummy bears or fruit snacks, but 4g of sugar per chew, and I can't detect any improvements in my workouts.

I enjoyed the first few packs especially on a century ride. But when I got to the middle of the box all the product was melted in a white blob. Could not eat half the packages.

They are tasty and give you a good pick me up pre or during work outs. Only gripe is they melt fairly easily, so leaving a pouch in a bag or in the car leaves a gooey mess.

They taste great and are a good pick-me-up before and after a workout.

But be warned they are addictive!! I like the flavors: Raspberry and strawberry/banana the best. Avoid the lemon ones; they smell like lemon Pledge (but taste good).

P.S. They may seem cheap on amazon, but I can get them for a $1.00 a bag at Fred Meyers in Oregon

FLAHAVAN'S Pinhead Oatmeal, 35.27-Ounce Bags (Pack of 6)

FLAHAVAN'S Pinhead Oatmeal, 35.27-Ounce BagsI eat a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast nearly every day. For me alone these 6 bags will last about a year. These are prepared differently than I am used to, in the US rolled oats are the typical variety.

For those not familiar, pinhead oats are the same as steel-cut oats, oats cut into small pieces rather than being crushed (rolled) in a mill and steamed. The result is that they take longer to cook; rolled oats take about 10 minutes to get mushy all the way through, but steel cut oats can take up to 30 minutes to get soft and will probably never be as mushy as rolled oats. This results in a different texture than rolled oats that a some people like. Also of note, is that steel-cut oats are denser than rolled oats so the ratio of water to oats is closer to 4:1 rather than the 2:1 for rolled.

All that being said, steel-cut oats have a lower Glycemic Index. Plus they seem to retain a bit more oat flavor than typical rolled oats. To help deal with the longer preparation time, I started making my oatmeal in batches for several days. I use small containers, about 1 cup (Rubbermaid 7J59 Easy Find Lid Square 1-1/4-Cup Food Storage Container), and eat one every day for breakfast.

Unlike McCann's, which has been processed here for the lucrative US market for quite a while now (I still have an old can saved from when it wasn't), all of Flahavan's products are actually imported from Eire. These oats are cut and so are a different texture from Scottish (and Macroom) pinhead oats, which are stone-ground. Flahavan's are more uniform in size and appearance and the mouthfeel is somewhat different as well--I personally have no preference. Differences from stone-ground aside, these are delicious oats with a sweet, robust aroma and chewy texture, even when cooked longer than called for in the cooking instructions.

If you've only had rolled oats, you owe it to yourself to give Flahavan's Pinhead Oatmeal a try. If the longer (20 minutes) cooking time is off-putting, try starting them off the night before. Using the instructions on the package and adjusting for the amount you want to make, bring the water to a boil, add the oats (no salt yet), and bring back to a boil, stirring. Turn off the heat, cover the pot, leave overnight, and then heat the next morning, adding a pinch of salt if you're so inclined (I dissolve it in a bit of water first). You might discover that your rolled oats seem a little tame by comparison! :)

I lived in Ireland for 10 years, and really enjoyed having pinhead (steel-cut) oatmeal for breakfast. The cost of such cereal in the U.S. is prohibitive, so I was glad to see it for sale on Amazon.com, and bought 12 bags! Still has a great taste, and the expiration date is well in the future.

Said it before, and I'll say it again! Flahavan's pinhead oats cook up very well and bring on that home cooked in the glen Scotland flavor to porridge. Great texture after an overnight in the crock pot. The directions are quite easy to follow although the simmer and stir frequently put the stirring in a milder more gentle tone that it should have. Stir quite a bit as the oats thicken or they will toast using this amount of water.

This is the best oatmeal I have ever had. This is steel cut oatmeal, yet tastes better than any other steel cut! After the water boils, bring it to simmer, that way it cooks better.

Add nuts (my favourite walnuts), dried fruits (apricots...), cinnamon, and honey or maple syrup. You will love it.
