Plum Kids Organic Fruit Mashups, 4-Count (Pack of 6)

Plum Kids Organic Morning Mashups, Oatmeal Raisin, 4-CountThese have become staples in our house. I first picked up the "Blueberry Blitz" from our local super-market, but the only other flavors they carried were "fruit-only". I really liked the fact that you get at least some veggies in these (albeit a few places down on the ingredient list). So I came to Amazon and ordered "Carroty-Chop" and "Beetbox Berry". So far the kids (boys aged 4 and 6) love them. They are an easy snack to throw in the lunch box or to take on the road. I also like that they have a long shelf life and they are certified organic by the Oregon Tilth, one of the more stringent organic certification agencies.

Here are the ingredient lists since I don't see them on Amazon:

Blue-Berry Blitz: organic apple puree, organic blueberry puree, organic carrot puree, organic purple carrot juice, organic lemon juice

Carroty Chop: organic apple puree, organic carrot puree, organic mango puree, organic orange juice, organic lemon juice

Beetbox Berry: organic apple puree, organic strawberry puree, organic carrot puree, organic beet juice, organic lemon juice

They are all 60 calories and have 11 grams of sugar.

I've also taken to buying the "Peter Rabbit Organics" which have more vegetables mixed in with the fruit and are a little larger. My kids prefer the Mashups, but they also like the Peter Rabbit brand, so I just have a big basket of them all mixed in and I grab what makes sense. If we've dined out and they didn't get a lot of veggies I give them a "Peter Rabbit" for bedtime snack. If I'm just adding a little something to their lunch box I'll throw in a Mashup. It does help keep the kids away from the junk food, particularly at snack time. A great tool in the "trying to feed the kids healthy stuff" arsenal.

And to be honest I've been known to grab one when I need a quick snack. They taste pretty good, and it's better than grabbing cookies or chips.

I ordered these to mix up my child's snack. I usually give her applesauce pouches but she is getting tired of them. The information provided doesn't list apples as an ingredient but when arrived they are the first ingredient listed. I'm sure my daughter will still like them I just wish I had known that before ordering.

I had tried a few flavors of mashups, and was satisfied if not excited about the flavors, until I tried the Mixed Berry. I did not enjoy the taste. I thought it might get better if I tried it cold, but it still just tasted like straight up applesauce to me, unsweetened applesauce. So I made the effort to actually read the ingredient list, and sure enough, apples are the first ingredient listed. Not berries. So even though there are berries in this, it is not a berry mix, it is berry infused applesauce, and not at all what I was looking for. Now I'm really disappointed that I am stuck with five and a half more boxes of this applesauce. I understand that it would be too expensive to produce if they stuck to entirely berries, and that apples are a cheap, healthy way to make it enough to sell, but it should be properly named, as not many kids will be fooled once they taste it.

A great way to start off the day with some good calories for our son. Tastes wonderful! It is so smooth, though, that you would not know there is oatmeal in it by the texture.

We absolutely LOVE all the Plum Organics Pouches. They are awesome for lunch boxes. I am a parent of 3 1/2 yr. old twins. One cannot process fresh fruits and veggies but with these products I don't have to worry. He will now eat five different varieties. The only complaint I have is that they keep saying the item is no longer available for subscribe and save then one day later it becomes available at a higher price.

Kashi Organic Promise Cereal

Kashi Organic Promise Cereal, Cinnamon Harvest, 16.3-Ounce BoxesKashi Organic Promise Cinnamon Harvest is a great example of how simple ingredients can deliver great taste. It has three basic organic ingredients: wheat, evaporated cane juice, and cinnamon. I am impressed by the amount of flavor that this cereal has. It is not a knock you over the head in your face and overly powerful experience. However if you are looking at a cereal like this, you likely have different priorities to begin with.

Cinnamon Harvest is a fairly dense cereal with a one cup serving coming in at 190 calories more than 50% more than a lighter cereal such as Kashi Organic Promise Strawberry Fields. On the flip side, I find a serving of Cinnamon Harvest stays with me longer than Strawberry Fields does. It really depends on what you are looking for, and the tastes between the two are completely different as well.

Like most "wheat biscuit" type cereals Cinnamon Harvest holds up well in milk although I have found this to be true of most Kashi cereals.

Overall, if you want a wheat cereal with great taste and natural ingredients, you should give Kashi Organic Promise Cinnamon Harvest a try.

Great taste and crunch, but I feel these have too much sugar (even if Kashi calls it dehydrated cane juice...that is sugar). I guess I am just used to eating less sweat cereal, but my first bite of the cereal made me pick up the box again and see what was in it. Organic and all that too, for what it is worth. Kellogg's Unfrosted Mini Wheats have no added sugar (1g of sugar in a 59g serving) whereas the Kashi has 7g of sugar in a 54g serving.

This is great cereal and Amazon sells it for a reasonable price but be aware that they will send you 4 16.3 ounce boxes for a total of 65.2 ounces which is 5 ounces less than the 70 ounces they have in the product description. Also their dollar per ounce price is based on the 70 ounces not the actual ounces you will get. Not a super big deal but Amazon should be more accurate in their descriptions and unit pricing!

I am just dumbfounded by all the people saying this cereal is too sweet. The only way you can think this is too sweet is if ANY amount of sweetness is too much for you. I'm not sure if the amount of sugar was lessened at some point, but as it is now, it's really not that sweet. It has 7g of sugar, and while I wouldn't call that unsweetened, it is a pretty modest amount. It's nowhere near as sweet as Mini Wheats, for example.

All in all, good cereal! I would buy it again.

I absolutely detest shredded wheat type cereals. My husband however, enjoys those types of cereals. He decided to try out the Kashi Autumn Wheat, and I have to admit, after years of calling shredded wheat or granola type foods, horse food, I had to take it back for this one. I find I eat this mostly as my night snack. It is very very crunchy and contains a slightly sweet taste that's very pleasing to the palette.

If you've been avoiding the fiber craze because of the taste of most of those products, give this one a try you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Pacifc Natural Foods Naturally Almond Vanilla Low Fat Beverage ( 6x4/8 OZ) ( Value Bulk Multi-pack)

Pacific Natural Foods Organic Almond Non-Dairy Beverage, Low Fat Vanilla, 8-Ounce PouchesI am all for nut and grain milks and have been drinking them for 12 years. I am now looking for a good almond milk but unfortunately this one is not going to be it. I think that this company's large cartons (half gallon) of organic almond milk have more almonds than sugar, but unfortunately these small cartons seem to not be made of organic almonds, and, more importantly to me, seem to hardly be almond milk at all, but rather water and sugar with some almond flavoring (according to the ingredients list). Also, they add "other natural flavorings" which I try to avoid because usually that's food-industry-speak for msg and stuff like that, which gives me headaches. I understand that the company wants to make this drink more palatable to children and to reluctant health-nuts, but I think it's the wrong way to go to put more sugar than almonds in it, and the wrong way to go to add all kinds of "flavoring" when almonds are so beautifully flavored on their own. I wanted this to be a product I could order from Amazon, but I'll need to keep looking.

We have the vanilla flavor of this almond beverage. I can't say that it tastes pleasant by itself. BUT, I have been using it to bake with it is especially wonderful in muffins. Any baked item that calls for milk, I would recommend trying this in. The 8 oz. size are really convenient. Lots of recipes call for 1 cup of milk. I look forward to trying it in homemade ice cream also.

As the parent of a 4 year old little boy who is casein intolerant, I wanted to pack him something in his lunch for school that wasn't juice. Since we have to limit his dairy intake, we are always concerned about making sure he gets enough calcium. I bought these to pack in his school lunches thinking this would give him another serving of calcium. Unfortunately I was mistaken, as there is no calcium in this product. There are many other almond milk brands that are fortified with calcium (Almond Breeze and Silk's almond milk to name two) but at least for now they don't make 8oz sizes. My son does love the taste, which is why I didn't give it 1 star.

Tastes good..convenient little packages...

However, I went out of my way to buy this product in part because I have been on the search for milk alternatives as a way to make sure I am getting calcium.

Well, the website information on Amazon says that this almond beverage is enriched with calcium--so woohoo! I ordered it. I had been drinking it for a couple days and enjoying it when I took a gander at the actual nutrition facts and saw that calcium is listed as 0%

That's right a big goose egg--like I would go through all this trouble just because I like almond milk! How frustrating!!!

I ordered these, thinking that it was a pretty good deal to do the subscribe & save... Well, since then I have realized my MATH was wrong... But had to write a review and say that all three of my kids LOVE this milk. I think they like that they are in the "juice-like" boxes also, since we very rarely have juice. They think having a box of this milk is a special treat -and at this price, I guess it's going to have to be, from now on.

Bob's Red Mill 5 Grain Rolled Cereal

Bob's Red Mill 5 Grain Rolled Cereal, 16 ozA friend who has recovered from a stroke and prostate cancer is trying to eat really healthy food. He told us about Bob's Red Mill 5 Grain Rolled Whole Grain Hot Cereal, Plus Flaxseed. We found some in a local store -16 ounces for $2.09!

Following the directions on the package, I cooked a batch of it tonight. What a delicious and filling meal! The package instructions recommend serving it with milk and honey. It also tastes good with other things, such as cinnamon, brown sugar, raisins, toasted almonds, and bananas. It tastes good plain, and it does not require large amounts of butter or sugar to taste good.

The ingredients are whole grain oats, wheat, rye, barley, triticale, and flaxseed. quoted from the side of the bag: Scientific evidence suggests that eating whole grains reduces the risks of some cancers, especially gastrointestinal cancers. Antioxidants contained in whole grains may work with fiber and other compounds to reduce your overall risk of heart disease.

A few more bits of information: There's a neat cookie recipe on the package. Since it is all natural, it keeps best in the refrigerator or the freezer. A serving made from 1/3 cup dry cereal has 120 calories and 5 grams fiber.

We're glad our friend told us about this cereal, and we highly recommend it.

I hope this review was helpful.

I found this when looking to upgrade my oatmeal. As expected this is MUCH heartier than regular oats. I used the microwave to nuke a small portion of this and the grains retain a lot of texture; they don't melt into mush like oatmeal does. (But not TOO much texture. You won't be eating a bowl of grains/seeds). The flavor was very mild and I found adding a bit of dried cranberries, brown sugar, and splash of vanilla coconut milk made for a subtly sweet and filling breakfast! I enjoyed this mix much better than plain oatmeal. It's not as bland and boring. It's hearty and healthy without actually tasting like health food!

This is a good tasting cereal. I cooked it on the stove and did it in the microwave, too. Both ways make equally good cereal, but the microwave has the advantage of being faster.

I used this to make Molly Wizenberg's everyday granola, from the Bon Appetit article, using coconut oil for the oil in the recipe and it is delicious. I have a soy intolerance so it was good to find this product with no soy in it.

Bear Valley Pemmican Bars, Fruit & Nut, 3.75-Ounce Bars (Pack of 12)

Bear Valley Pemmican Bars, Fruit & Nut, 3.75-Ounce BarsI always buy two cases of Pemmican bars, one chocolate and one fruit & nut. When they arrive, I put them into the freezer and take one out whenever I want to take one for lunch at work. It is defrosted by then and ready to eat. I really like the fact that it is not too sweet.

This product will keep you alive. Significant calorie count. Fairly high carb/protein ratio for energy. Oddly nice, mild taste; reminiscent of fruit cake. 10g (40% daily) of fiber! It will power through your digestive system with the inexorable force of a fruit-n'-nut-flavored glacier. You know that saying about the bear doing something in the woods? That'll be you. Not a bad thing, just keep it in mind.

Before we moved to our current location, I use to buy these bars at a local health food store. I haven't found them locally where we are now so I was pleased to find them at Amazon. I like to take these bars to work for lunch or take them when I am traveling. When I am on the road I have had them for breakfast as well. I like the taste and they are really filling and curb your hunger for some time, although I often have a little something else with them at lunch. They keep well, do not require refrigeration, and are just so convenient. You would need to try them for yourself to see if you like the flavor and texture but I like them very much. I feel good about eating them too as they are a sensible food.

I was introduced to Pemmican bars at Philmont Scout Ranch. Specifically the cocoa karob. I ate pretty well when the kids I was with turned up their noses at these bits of real food. The cocoa karob, specifically, was just too far removed from the candy they wanted in a bar. This was food.

These things rock. It's really a food bar, though they get lumped with energy bars a lot. They have a ton of complex carbs, good fats, fruits, fibers, food, etc. lumped into a hunk that you can easly find room for in a backpack. Then, provided you have enough water to get some portion of it down... you're good to go.

The flavor is not very exciting, and the bars are very dense. The fruit and nut is fairly sweet, but not what I would call a fruit bar. I prefer the cocoa karob, which is less sweet and seems to have less of the malty flavors going on in the fruit and nut.

I've taken these for ultra trail runs that had no aid stations. They are a must on backpacking trips. I grab them when I need food during the day, but am not going to get a full meal in. I can eat these fairly regularly without getting too tired of them, and unlike all the other bars out there, when I eat a Pemmican bar I feel like I have eaten something. I feel full, and ready to move on.

Forget Clif, Luna, Builder's, Power Bar, Nature Valley or any other goop/grain brick you see in the stores. They can't carry the wrapper for a Pemmi Bar. Tasty, energy-packed, nutritionally balanced and all natural, these gems rock. I discovered the Raisin Nut variety 30 years ago, and they've been saving me ever since. They banish hunger, taste great and don't punish you with a sugar crash (I'm sensitive to this).

NOTE: Eat these babies slowly. If you don't take small bites, you'll think you just bit into a chewy cotton ball. Pemmi Bars need saliva. So if you give them the space and time to generate it, you'll be a happy camper, biker, worker, traveler, spectator, parent or any other human who needs quick, big-time sustenance.

BONUS: Pemmi Bars keep amazingly--probably indefinitely in the freezer, where I store mine. But I've eaten unrefrigerated bars literally years old. Taste and consistency suffer, but they still get the job done.

At 420 calories a bar, Pemmi Bars outpunch all the rest and can easily replace a meal in a pinch. Don't want the whole thing? Rewrap it, and save it for a week. Or two. Or...yeah, I've eaten open ones pretty far down the road--with no problem. I'm obviously a major booster, and I put Pemmi Bars in the elite class of brilliantly effective, bombproof products including bow saws and the Concept 2 rowing machine. So do yourself a big favor. Try a bar.

Spectrum Naturals Walnut, Refined , 16-Ounce (Pack of 12)

Spectrum Naturals Walnut, Refined , 16-Ounce
  • Description: WALNUT OIL,REFINED Quantity: 12 Size: 16 OZ Brand: SPCTRM
  • Attributes: Kosher, (Please check the manufacturer's details for contents as we are unable to guarantee ingredient details and they may change without notice).

I don't use this for cooking I use it for making my own oil paints. I'm an artist who goes to extraordinary lengths to purify my oils. So I start out with the Spectrum walnut oil, and refine it further, until all the alpha-linolenic acids are gone. The alpha-linolenic acid, aka 'mucus', is what makes an oil painting turn dark. I learned this from reading Reuben, et al, accounts of common studio practices in the 1500 -1600's. Makes great hand-made oil paint. Probably good for cooking, too I just never tried it for that. Smells good.

Buy Spectrum Naturals Walnut, Refined , 16-Ounce (Pack of 12) Now

Spectrum Naturals Walnut Oil, refined, is a very mild oil. I can't detect any walnut smell or taste any walnut flavor at all. Maybe that's what you want in some cases, though I was hoping for a more nutty flavor like raw walnuts.

It does have the advantage of having higher Omega 3 content than most oils. Also most oils that are high in Omega 3 (like fish oil and flax oil) have a strong taste which you probably don't want on your salad.

Unlike some of Spectrum's oils, it is not organic.

Sheffa Savory Bar, Sesame, 1.27-Ounce (Pack of 12)

Sheffa Savory Bar, Sesame, 1.27-OunceI first got one of these at a local health food store and liked them so much I wanted to stock up to have more on hand so I bought a pack of 12 online. They are a crunchy, natural snack for when I need a little something between meals. They have a little herbal/healthy taste.....which is good, but at first unexpected.
