My husband was born in the Netherlands and back in the pre-internet, ie. the Dark Ages, he searched and searched for what he considered good PB. I was frankly skeptical but after visiting his family back home and having some Calve Pindakaas I was a believer. I don't know what it is but it is better than any I can find in the US whether handmade, natural or specialty. Perhaps it just isn't has highly processed? Who knows?
This is the good stuff and if you want to make 'real' peanut sauce use Calve. My goodness it makes a big diff!
All this said, I probably won't buy it here on Amazon due to the price being roughly double what I would expect. The great thing here is that it is being sold in the big 600g jar instead of the 390g jar I get elsewhere. The disappointing thing is that at roughly $14 a 600g jar it makes more sense to get it at Vander Veen's in Michigan. The 390g jar is $4.39you can check it out at the Dutch Store dot com there is a discount if purchased by the case. Yes, the case. Don't judge! We love our PBI discovered Calve's Pindakaas (Peanut Butter) during a 4 years expat stint in the Netherlands. Calve is a Dutch brand of global monster Unilever. I wish Unilever would introduce a similar peanut butter to their US offerings. Clearly the demand for an "REAL" all natural peanut butter is here. All that Unilever needs to do is to take a walk at any Walmart Peanut Butter aisle; Unilever product brand managers will immediately the high popularity of the "All Natural" peanut butters on the shelves. Calve unequivocally is much superior than exciting all natural brands currently offered on US supermarket shelves.
As the prior reviewer has stated, Calve is truly good. The large 600gr size offered here on Amazon.com is a plus. Yet its listed price on Amazon is twice as high as it should be. I agree with the prior poster; you're much better off buying the 350 gram unit at the vander Veen's website for $4.39. The correct price for 600 gr should be absolutely no more than $7.00 or $8.00 max to be competitively priced. If the price of the 600gr unit is priced right, I would become a regular Calve PindaKaas buyer on Amazon.com. In the meantime I have to buy at vander Veen's.
Amazing but here one product that Amazon is not pricing correctly.
