Good but no real pumpkin or pumpkin spice flavor. Had to jazz it up with my own spices. Better texture and overall flavor than your run-of-the-mill cheapy oatmeal.I already like McCann's plain, regular oatmeal so tried this for kids going to school. Box is about same weight as Quaker (12.1 oz vs Quaker's 12.3 oz) but McCann's has 8 packets vs 10 which I like as there is more in a packet. Who only makes 1 packet anyway which is enough for about a toddler..and even with the bigger packet we still use 2 each as adults.
Ingredients in McCCann's vs Quaker: McCann's has higher fat/sodium/carbs which is expected..packet is bigger. Same amount of protein though (bigger packet so should have been more...) and no vitamins listed like Quaker which fortifies theirs. Quaker lists "whole grain oats" while McCann's lists "Irish Oats"..so...are "Irish Oats" whole grain and..what makes them special? Quaker has a lot of extra "stuff" like soy lecithin, vanilla extract, natural flavor, calcium carbonate, guar gum, oat flour, caramel color, reduced iron, vitamin a palmitate and may contain soy and milk. McCann's is simple: Irish oats, evaporated cane syrup, pecans, sea salt, cinnamon, natural pumpkin flavor. (Was hoping to find some kind of dried pumpkin pieces...oh well)
McCann's wins with us in natural and delicious taste, plenty of nuts, bigger packet and simple ingredients although a point off for DOUBLE the cost of Quaker (ouch). Find specials and coupons and it is WORTH it. Still wondering why "Irish oats" are any different and if they are even whole grain....but looking forward to trying all the other flavors. :)There is no pumpkin taste at all.I do not recommend this flavor unless you like cinnamon. You can only taste the cinnamon.McCann's is my preferred brand of oatmeal.
I use their steel cut and quick cook oats all the time and think their instant (plain) is the best I've ever tasted, so I was very excited when I saw this product on Amazon! I didn't even mind the price, figuring it was a sure thing it because it was McCann's and pumpkin I love pumpkin!
Unfortunately, I was VERY disappointed.
I could discern no pumpkin and it was so sweet, i had to cut it down with packet of plain oatmeal.
The packets are still in the cupboard. I offer it as a breakfast choice when we have guests. One person said they liked it and the other agreed with my assessment. We bought some oatmeal that was suppose to be instant from Costco and it was from the same company but we had to cook and cook and cook the stuff before it would be edible. Needless to say we returned it to Costco. I really didn't want to spend 20 minutes in the morning cooking oatmeal although the oatmeal itself was really good. I saw this on amazon and thought I'd give it a go. This stuff IS actually instant and took a whole 70 seconds to make in our microwave and it turned out great.
